December 20, 200619 yr FROM THE MIRROR. XMAS RECORD BREAKER Leona's on target to sell a MILLION singles this week to rob Take That of Christmas No.1 Eva Simpson & Caroline Hedley X-FACTOR winner Leona Lewis will break new records when her first single rockets to the top of the Christmas chart. The stunning 21-year-old is likely to shift a million copies of her cover of Kelly Clarkson's hit A Moment Like This, making it the fastest selling download of all time. Hackney girl Leona has already clocked up 100,000 downloads in a singel day. Advertisement "Last year Shayne Ward sold 700,000 to reach number one," says one expert. "But with the added bonus of downloads and all the great publicity surrounding her, it's very likely she will reach the million mark as well as taking the Christmas number one," he adds. The actual CD will hit the stores today, and fans are predicted to snap up hundreds of thousands in the four days left until the charts on Sunday. Meanwhile, the battle for the other places in the Christmas charts is shaping up to be a real bun fight. Take That are Leona's biggest rivals with their single Patience and, despite a recent surge in sales, will end up at number two. This is a bit ironic given that the boys sang with her on X Factor - and thought she was brilliant! McFly are potentially third, already out selling Girls Aloud two to one. The boy band's double A-side Friday Night / Sorry's Not Good Enough flew off the shelves when it was released on Monday, although sales of Girls Aloud's cover of the 80s classic I Think We're Alone Now will probably gain momentum towards the end of the week, pushing them to number four. The dark horse is the ageless Cliff Richard. The sprightly pensioner, currently at number two with his 21st Century Christmas is likely to slip to number five. We can expect the blessed Cliff to take defeat on the chin - but McFly are not going out without a fight. The band's Danny Jones says: "We've been watching X Factor very closely and need to find a way to get to number one - because it's nearly inevitable everyone will buy Leona's single and she'll win. Leona's got a great voice, but no personality - not as much as us." The mischievous guitarist added: "We will have to run around Harrods naked to get everyone talking about us. Or failing that, we can dig up some dirt on Leona's past." We're all ears! Girls Aloud aren't safe from the McFly boys either either. Lead singer Tom Fletcher, said: "Last time we were up against them for a number one we beat them, but only by a few sales. "So we have to raise our game!" Bit late now, guys. THE High Street gown Leona wore during the TV show's final sold out 24 hours later. Hundreds of girls who want to look like The X Factor beauty raided fashion chain Coast after seeing Leona in the store's £150 chocolate and pink dress on Saturday. Now Coast has had to draw up a waiting list... SHE has only been in the spotlight for five minutes but Leona Lewis is already finding it tough going... The sexy singer, star of The X Factor's wrap party on Monday night, was overheard begging management to reduce her hectic promo schedule. Our mole at Sound nightclub, in London's Leicester Square, reports: "She was saying that she was tired and wanted to spend time with her family in the run-up to Christmas." Other guests at the bash were livelier - a sozzled Ashley McKenzie ended up snogging fellow finalist Nikitta Angus, while an inebriated Kate Thornton dropped her glass of wine over a £3,000 cake display
December 20, 200619 yr I wish the newspapers would get their stories straight, one paper said she had sold 200,000 in one day another 150,000, another 100,000, music week say 88,000
