well... whats it all about?..

isnt it supposed to be the celebration of 'christs' birth?.. well it was, but i think that maybe most of us has sussed that as being utter bollox!

why do we celebrate it?.. why decorate our houses and trees? to celebrate......?... some nebulous character from jewish history that we have credited with being 'our saviour'?

crimbo might be good fun for some, but lets face it, its based on lies! from the nativity (virgin birth... yeah course it was ! pmsl.) to the santa LIE.

its not just me, a grumpy old mans view, but just think about it... its utter bollox, its contrived and manipulated by big business to make as much money as they can out of YOU.

i HATE crimbo and all it stands for, the states permission to the plebs that now they can have fun, and we will sell you the products in order for you to have fun!

so spend you years hard earned cash, get drunk, be merry adorn your houses with pretty lights and decorations... you now have permission to be happy, you must be happy because its the season and the pretty lights make you feel all festive and them bloody crimbo songs are playing on the effing radio and as musak in all the stores.... now you /we all feel much better eh?..... like fcuk we do!

get your lives in order... take control... have fun 365/365 and see through and reject the bull$h!t that is crimbo. we dont need it.

Instead of considering at a religious event.

Forget all that - I did years ago... and consider all the benefits in people meeting up, even re-connecting with Xmas cards with people you've not got around to communicating.

Plus there is the work advantage, we are a nation of work aholics and giving people a few days off if good for life.

A throughly useful event I'd actively encourage.

I agree with many of your points, Rob, but I also take the stance of e-motion. I see Christmas as a time to get together with old friends and relatives, an excuse to give gifts, and a time to enjoy tradition. Sure it is a big commercialized event and retailers and big businesses live for it, but it's about the only time of year charities make any money. I know it's all founded on religious bs but it does seem to bring out goodwill and thanksgiving in many people and for that I appreciate it.
Christmas is bullsh!t, we all know that it's a b/astardisation and hijacking of the Winter Solstice, Yule and Saturnalia - PAGAN FESTIVALS.... Frankly, I view Hogmany as the real celebration... I connect with far more people on Hogmany than I do at Christmas, and I think there's more reason to actually celebrate a New Year than some nebulous so-called 'historical event'....

i dont buy those excuses...

i see it as a party time for the inept who have very dull boring lives. 'i wish it could be christmas everyday'? well it IS for me, i allways communicate with those i like, with family etc i dont need a special time. i eat/drink well 365/365 and ive organised my life so i have breaks/good times.

i think its PATHETIC that so many plebs rely on crimbo for their yearly fix of 'good times'...

For me, as a Christian, Christmas is a personal celebration to me of the birth of Jesus - something which I do not feel the necessity to defend to anyone, I may add, and is also something I don't really give a naff whether other people believe or not.

So, that's the meaning of Christmas for me ... if others use it as a time to promote big business, great ... if others want it as an excuse for a p*** up, great ... just let them be. It's a personal choice what Christmas means, and how to celebrate it, and IMO it's not up to any of us to say that any is 'wrong' ... focus more on your life and celebrations instead of criticising and condemning others :)

Christmas Day is the day *used* to celebrate the birth of Jesus, rather than a literal suggestion :)

Like I said, I'm not going to "explain myself" to anyone ... it's a personal choice

Oh I see! When was he actually born?

I agree with basically everything you said in your last post, it's upto the person to choose why/whether they celebrate it.

For obvious reasons, I don't think there is a specific date

It could effectively be in the middle of July, but the Christian Community uses Christmas Day as the day to come together and celebrate it as a sort of an agreement.

To me, it's irrelevent when it happened ... my faith is that it *did* happen (which whether you chose to believe or not is up to you), so I celebrate on December 25th along with others

:D

We've always celebrated christmas, but I know we shouldn't really because we're not christian, and aren't celebrating it for the right reasons.

It's still nice though.

Same ... my family aren't *really* Christians [i guess I'm not a "real" one since I don't go to Church, but that's because I'd rather have a personal way of worship than with 300 other people, it's just the way I like it], and neither are a lot of my friends ... but almost everyone I know celebrates ... like you say, it's just nice!
Christmas is just a good excuse for people to have a small break in the winter see friends and family and have a good time.

^ Jesus wasn't born at christmas though?

There is one chance in 365 that he was born in Dec. 25, assuming He really existed.

It's miserable this time of year so it cheers everyone up. Gives us something to look forward to.

he wasnt!

Didn't they find proof that he did exist though?

lol.. nope... there is not 1 shred of evidence that he existed, he is thought to be based on one of several upstarts at that time. but even if there was a 'jesus' in existence, it still doesnt mean anything, it doesnt prove that he was the son of god, just that some guy called jesus existed.

that alone i find hard to understand... after all, if there was this bloke walking on water, performing miracles etc dont you think that it would be headline news on the day!! not 60 odd years later!! that in itself must discount the testimonies as fabrication. to put it in perspective it would be the same as us now writing about what happend in the second world war with NO mention of it before!....
