Another week with Stuart Robinson in charge. Despite the occasional slip he's a great presenter. Just ahead of the number 1 he mentioned that he will be back next week which has got me wondering if he is the new regular presenter. There was no mention that he was standing in for Hix and whereas normally the Cool FM website continued to show Hix's photo when he was off they have been using Stuart's.

And it seems to be that we DO have a new presenter with a new jingle at the very start of this week's show. We also had a new jingle to introduce the future breakers.

One strange thing this week! The top 10 started with Ordinary by Alex Warren. This had entered at 39 three weeks ago and then climbed to 34 but had fallen out of the top 40 last week. Stuart referred to it as a huge mover this week. What it also means is that stick Season has dropped out completely this week from number 19. Which seems odd considering that for most of it's lengthy run it has been in the top 20 (barring 3 weeks at Christmas and a more recent chart where it was at 21 it was last outside the Top 20 in it's first 2 weeks). I have checked last week's chart as published on their website and it matches what I noted last week.

For the first time since early February DJ Hix was mentioned this week as he featured on the first of the future breakers. Stuart also mentioned that he was focusing on his music career at the moment which is I presume why there was a change of presenter. This week Stuart also referred to another chart show - the Country Chart which appears on sister station Downtown Country every Saturday in the same timeslot as the NI Hit 40. It is presented by a guy who has previously been a stand in on the main chart show - Deputy Dave. And from next week he will be the new regular presenter on the NI Hit 40 show too.

A new month and a new presenter on the show. As mentioned last week "Deputy" Dave McCalmond has taken over and there have been a couple of minor differences in presentation style from Stuart Robinson. This week I was unable to listen to the full show as normal as I was heading to a concert in Belfast. I did hear most of the first hour as I was driving, and I've heard parts of the remainder of the show today while recording it from the station's catch up service. The first thing I noticed is that Dave (unlike his predecessors) mentions the movements of all the songs before or after playing them. Stuart Robinson did mention some but even when he did they weren't always right. The recaps are also still there for the full chart although to begin with I thought they might have been dropped as they went straight into the Boyzlife new entry at 30 after playing Shake It To The Max. Thankfully that was corrected before Billie Eilish was played. Dave has also gone back to doing the Top 10 recap before the number 2 rather than after it. A couple of oddities this week - After Birds of A Feather was played a remix of Counting Stars by One Republic was played but at no point did Dave make any reference to it. And building up to the future breakers he said that he would be playing Ed Sheeran, Lisa McHugh and the new Maroon 5 song but only the first 2 were actually played.

So more of a chance to listen to the show properly and straight away I noticed something odd which I hadn't picked up on last week. Dave has a habit of announcing positions way ahead of when he needs to. For example straight away he announced that Sports Car was back in at 39 and then saying "before that here's Drake who falls a place to 40". Again it looked like he had forgotten to do the rundown between 40 and 31 but it appeared just after Boyzlife which was mistakenly announced as a new entry.

Will Smith was played just before Gracie Abrams, the next 3 were played just ahead of the Top 20 and the final 2 were played just after Messy. Also of note is that although this is it's first week in the Top 40 David McCalmond said that Ella Henderson was climbing 6 places to re-enter the chart.
