Im not sure really, she'es never been popular on airplay, even when WW was out it wasn't played a lot on radio.

 

I think the thing is that radio don't find her credible enough, since we only get the songs like WW/HDL, I think they see her as a kind of gimmick.

i think Radio 1 find her to be some sort of One Trick Pony -_-

Well as soon as the beyonce/shakira song comes out they will be licking shakira's arse and A- listing her.

i've been trying to work it out for a long time, its got to be cause she is foreign as in she's not from north america so she is considered to be "world" and specifically cause english is not her first language, they have a problem with that, its a combination of all these or it could be something more sinsiter like someone high up in radio1 has just said "we won't play her" for some reason based on what? we will never know it could be prejudice

 

the reason i say it could be an unreasonable personal reason (which is completely unfair!) is cause they have played ricky martin and enrique and they are from south america and english isn't their first language so why not shakira? i forgot daddy yankee singing in spanish and he gets played!! even when she teamed up with wyclef an artist they have A listed before may times she doesn't get A, B or C listed so something dodgy is going on at radio1 concerning her, they will playlist "beautiful liar" cause its a beyonce track featuring shakira cause beyonce always gets A listed like Nelly like Pink like Xtina like Kylie like Madonna everyone of them get listed but the biggest selling female act this year is ignored!

Well this is my take on the whole situation:

 

Radio 1 is licenced by the British tax payers so it must follow a minimum of playing 40-45% (I think its that. :unsure: ) of British artists and normally the percentage of this is a lot higher. Radio 1 also follow a target auidence of 10-28 (its something like that anyho) but it is mainly targeted towards university students hence why it playlists loads of indie music.

 

I have no idea how they actually choose the playlist and why they don't playlist Shakira but I certinley wouldn't say they hate her, its more of a fact that the people who decide the playlist think that artists Like Madonna, Christina, Nelly, Justin etc etc will be better recived towards the listeners.

Yes but in general (I know there are exceptions like you though. :P ) Anastacia is generally targeted towards an older audience, like 30+ ish and not towards people around 18-21. :P

mmm I personally think that radio one are discriminating against shakira.... Hips dont lie for example... number one for 5 weeks.. obviously loved but not added... why? They did interview her... and they mentioned how she doesnt like to give interviews... if i was shakira i would have told radio one to **** off

I understand what your saying but Radio 1 don't playlist lots of artists for a lot of different reasons though. Tony Christie had a huge selling single last year that didn't get playlisted by them.

Did they playlist Whenever Wherever. :unsure: Anyho I honesty don't know why they don't playlist her but they don't playlist a lot of artists like Kelly Clarkson and the only reason I can think of is that they don't want to playlist too much of a certain genre. I know Shakira isn't technically Pop but I think they just bind her into that catergory and because artists like Madonna and Christina are more likely to be recived better with the listeners thats why they don't playlist her. :P

The thing with Hips Don't Lie I think was that it scored badly when they tested it with audiences. Capital FM sorta confirmed this to us when they told us why HDL wasn't playlisted straight away. The thing that annoys me though is that SexyBack and Ain't No Other Man were the worst scoring songs with audience tests yet Radio 1 still A Listed them because of who they were by. With Shakira however, she only ever made a splash in the UK with WW and then when went on hiatus for like 4 years. Radio 1 aren't really gonna risk playlisting a song that people might not like from an artist that doesnt seem too important. So in a way, I'd say it was Shakira's fault taking so long between albums - but that's the way she does things ;)

that may explain their initial reluctance to playlist the song at first but then she reached #1 and radio 1 still didn't add it? its their reluctance and stubborness that really fueled the anti shakira fire at the radio 1 head office, we can all feel it they don't like her!

 

even a chart commentator i think james masterton or someone said he was puzzled as to why radio #1 had not playlisted the track after reaching #1

 

i mean even a c list would be ok but she gets nothing only being shunned! the song was popular, by reaching #1 proved that, it had staying power too which meant a wide cross section of the public were buying it, for a song to reach almost half a mill shows its not just the fanbase or a particular market is just buying it

 

but radio 1 were so sly by getting the only rardio interview from shakira about the song reaching #1 when she was on tour in the US but they didn't playlist the track or support her, they have some nerve!!

 

 

They didn't actually get an interview from her. If you listen to it, they've just pasted JK & Joel's questions in to make it sound like they interviewed her.
