Posted April 6, 200619 yr Where do i start with this cult classic? This isn't the best horror film ever, it's close but not the best. It is however the best zombie film of all time. A short history will explain it's apperance to the audiences worldwide. Dawn Of The Dead was issued an X certificate when it received it's original theatrical release in 1979 and had a running time of 125 minutes 25 seconds. This version required cuts but there are no records of what these were. Dawn Of The Dead was first classified for video in 1989 when it received an 18 certificate. The version was 120 minutes 8 seconds in length and required 12 secounds of cuts. The "Directors Cut" was first classifed in 1997 and again received an 18 rating, this 139 minute version required six seconds of cuts. The cuts made were an exploding head, a gush of blood when a zombie bites the flesh of a woman's arm and the shooting of two zombie children. The last cut was made because of the shootings at Dunblane. At the beginning of 2003 the Director's Cut of this film was resubmitted to the BBFC and for the first time in it's history the film was granted a certificate without any cuts. This is the version i've got and would recommend people to get if they're into old time classic horror. The story follows four people brought together by the ever engulfing catastrophe that surrounds them. In a bid to escape the ever growing hoardes of undead and the breakdown of their society the group make a flea to the wilderness of the canadian mountains. On the way up they stop off at a shopping mall. They rest in the upper parts of the huge shopping complexe, safe from the army of dead below them. The group realise that if they clean out the zombies and bar the doors then it'll be a safe heaven. It sounds like a good plan, but things aren't always that easy are they now? A great film for horror and gore fans. No cheesey acting and great speical effects (for the time and budget) thanks too Tom Savini. This i'd give this 10out of 10. A true classic and easily my favourite.
April 6, 200619 yr Good review John, and a masterpiece of modern horror to be sure. Did you know that there's a cut of the film that Dario Argento did for the Italian market that lasts 110 minutes, leaving in all the hyper-violence and gore and taking out a few of the sub-plots that he reckoned "slowed the film down".....
April 6, 200619 yr Author No i didn't, is it any good? Do you know Romero makes a cameo apperance for a brief instance when the bikers are throwing pies in the zombies face's

April 7, 200619 yr No i didn't, is it any good? Do you know Romero makes a cameo apperance for a brief instance when the bikers are throwing pies in the zombies face's  I dunno mate, never saw the Argento edit, it's dubbed into Italian so there wouldn't really be much point in watching it.... Did you spot Tom Savini (Dawn's Make-up and gore effects guru..) as one of the bikers...?
April 7, 200619 yr Author so what label is it on? and is it much different to the arrow release it's on BMG (if that was what you were on about) and i don't know. Scot yeah i did know that (seen the credits and listened to his commentary on the film :P ) He's also one of the main stunt guys as well. His stunts include falling off moving motor bikes and you know when they bloke up the entances with those big trucks? he plays some of the zombies that are knocked over by the trucks. Come to think about it i'm sure Romero also plays one of the TV crew at the start. His wife is also meant to be one of the zombies that get decapitated by Savini (or something like that, shes one of the ones at the end)
April 7, 200619 yr Author Just a few screen shots, some could be disturbing: http://www.bsospirit.com/comentarios/images/zombigoblin/zombi2.jpg http://www.badmovies.org/movies/dawndead/dawndead4.jpg "when there's no more room in hell the dead will walk the earth" ^_^ http://www.thegline.com/dvd-of-the-week/images/2004/dawn_096.jpg http://www.phillyburbs.com/zombies/essay/zombie8.jpg "look what happens when i don't take my medication!" http://www.brian-oshaughnessy.com/living-dead/images/dawn-blades.jpg Tom Savini as Blades. http://www2.gol.com/users/noman/images/items/cliff01.jpg Could he be anymore of a legend?
