Her albums have always performed well, so no surprises there. Maybe Joanne peaking only #3 in the UK was a slight disappointment.

Joanne is a country-pop album, UK doesn't appreciate it, when was the last time an album with this sound/aesthetic hit #1 in the UK?

Although not a chart surprise the big collapse of sales from born this way to ArtPop was very surprising in a sad way.

Judas going to number 8 I was expecting another top 5 from it.

You and I missing the top 20.

Perfect illusion missing top 10.

Judas, like BTW, suffered from being released on a Friday, only having 3 days of sales to debut on the UK chart. If the chart followed the current tracking days at that time, the song would have easily debuted in the Top 5, as in its first full week it rose from #14 to #9.

Y&I is a country-rock song and its peak of #23 in an EDM-dominated year is a miracle. Can you tell me how many songs with this sound made it onto the UK chart in 2011 (and in the century)?

The Perfect Illusion video was not released in its release week and even then it debuted at #12, however, with its sales it would have debuted at #7 last week.

I think HAIM and The Shires are the closest, and perhaps Taylor Swift to some extent.

HAIM's latest album spent just 4 weeks on the UK chart and The Shires don't have a #1 album in the UK.

Oh yes, have to agree, the decline from The Fame (10 x P) to Born This Way (3 x P) and to ARTPOP (gold) was very steep. ARTPOP is kind of purest example of "a fanbase album".

Obvously streaming replacing pure sales means that Chromatica hasn't "sold" as many units as ARTPOP, but I would say it has been more popular.

Let's not act like ARTPOP isn't less than 40k away from going Platinum in the UK (with only one and a half official singles and an extremely troubled era)

Even so, ARTPOP was the second best-selling female album of 2013, only behind Prism, and the ninth best-selling album of the year overall, according to the IFPI, that's far from a flop

Imagine if the era hadn't had so many problems and Gaga had continued to promote it in 2014 like Katy did?

DWUW seemingly being a hit was always so odd for me, especially cause Gagz seemed hell bent on Venus being the single.

I also always assumed Starstruck was gonna be a single.

She was right to replace Venus with DWUW because DWUW was able to do what she and her label wanted at the time: #1 on iTunes (something Applause couldn't). Their management for this song after that is another story.

I still don't know what they smoked to not release Starstruck as a single.

Let's be real, the promo for ARTPOP was all over the place and not in a good way. She had some fantastic performances though, especially the Muppets Xmas special and the title track was it at Fallon...

Another mistake. She had released GUY at the time so performing ARTPOP was a wasted opportunity, but mess and mismanagement wouldn't be new as she was already being managed by Bobby instead of Troy.

Do we count Hold My Hand not making it in the top 20 a bit of a chart surprise? Her previous soundtrack songs obviously smashed everything out of the water and Chromatica was successful so with such a humongous film, I think looking back it was surprising it didn't chart higher. Obviously there was the lack of streaming support because it did v well on downloads so it's not all surprising, but yeah, thoughts?

HMH was released on a Tuesday, without any playlist support, with only 3 days of sales to debut on the charts, its moderate peaks shouldn't shock anyone, least of all Gaga fans.

Also, HMH wasn't added to Hot Hits UK until 6 weeks after its release... With a team as bad as Gaga's even the most perfect song ever made would be at risk of underperforming.

Everyone always thought that Kylie is British... She even has British citizenship.
