Doctor Blind Chart - 20th November 2022

It's a second week in the number 1 slot for Edinburgh's Young Fathers. “I Saw” is the trios seventh chart topper for me and now gives the group a 17th week at number 1 in total, level with Grimes (17 weeks) and now behind only Robyn (22 weeks) and Arctic Monkeys (18 weeks) for the highest total number of weeks held at #1. It comes with a powerful video directed by David Uzochukwu, and serves as the second single from forthcoming fourth studio LP Heavy Heavy due in February 2023.

Launching 7-2 with the anthemic “Wolf”, and hoping for a 5th #1, are NYCs Yeah Yeah Yeahs - they last hit #1 in July 2009 “Heads Will Roll” and first hit #1 over 19 years ago in September 2003 with “Maps”.

Two new tracks break into this week's T10 - they come from Yves Tumor who chalks up a 7th top tier entry with “God Is A Circle” which jumps 15-7, they have so far had four number 1 singles (in each of the last 4 years but not in 2022 so far..), most recently for 3 weeks in July 2021 with “Jackie”. Kelela Mizanekristos has yet to score a number 1 single, with her high-point to-date being 2015s “Rewind” which peaked at #2 in October 2015; the breakbeat and D'n'B infused “Happy Ending” is the 2nd single from forthcoming new LP Raven and climbs 12-8 this week to become her 4th T10 hit and first since “Blue Light” hit No5 in January 2018.

Seven new entries break into the chart this week with dance the biggest theme and the highest of these (“Strong” at 33) coming from the latest Romy / Fred again.. collaboration. Both have hit #1 in recent times, most recently Fred again.. achieved it in August 2020 (3 weeks) as producer for Jayda Gs “Both Of Us”, and their last output with HAAi “Lights Out” went to #4 back in March. Debuting for the first time in the T40 is 21 year-old producer PinkPantheress with the KAYTRANADA co-produced “Do You Miss Me?” which is off to a strong start at 37. The Bath based producer leads a charge of younger artists primarily from Gen Z (born 1996-2010) heavily influenced by the DnB and Jungle of the early-mid 1990s that is having a huge (and very welcome imo) resurgence in the early 2020s.

Other returnees come from Lawrence Hart (at 40 with “A Deeper Love”; previous hit “LDN VBZ”, #14 in March), Loyle Carner (at 45 with “Nobody Knows (Ladas Road)”; previous hit “Yesterday”, #13 in January 2021), Glimji (at 47 with “Sweetpea”; previous hit “Rush” w/jamesjamesjames, #17 in July) and Channel Tres (at 49 with “6am”; previous hit “Impact” w/Robyn and SG Lewis, #1 for 2 weeks in September 2020).

There is also a debut for American singer/songwriter Rosie Thomas with the Christmas themed collaboration with Sufjan Stevens “We Should Be Together” at 46 and the first Christmas themed track on the chart this year. Full chart after the jump~

6am and Do You Miss Me?  Extra points for putting Wolf at 2nd place!

Hello!

I only heard wolf today but oh my gosh this genre of music is one of my favourites. I do love a good synth.

^_^

Hey Doctor B!

That recap video took quite some talent! Loved it.

Naturally, I'm loving the dance theme in the new entries. Strong, Do you miss me? and Sweetpea are all fantastic  (ty for the tip on Sweetpea, I've had it on repeat since spotting it here). I heard A Deeper Love on my release radar but wasn't blown away, it's however sounding fab now from your recap.

I didn't realize how gorgeous yunè pinku was until seeing the video get your recap spotlight *.* what a swerve from her and I can't wait for more.

Yay for Kelela, klurax, Bicep, Hatchie, Sega Bodega, Leftfield and Elkka on the rise.

I was buzzing to see Lolahol doing well here the past few weeks. What a revelation she has been this year with Eartheater's helping hand. The EP is surprisingly decent as well.

Caroline Polachek's Sunset nowhere to be found :o Not a fan of flamenco? x
