The second #1 hit of the year lands at #46, much higher than the first (Treat Me). This is the rockiest song I've heard from Ashe and it suits the slightly sarcastic tone of the lyrics. I enjoy the slower build in this one where it stays pretty folk-y for the first couple of verses before it begins to explode at the end.

Here We Go Again and Sweetest Pie were both great collabs this year  big fan of the lead artists but for me it's Tyler and Dua that really make those tracks.

I certainly agree that Dua steals the show on 'Sweetest Pie!

Thank you :D

One of two official #1s from 2022 in my top 100 and the track that I feel may go down in years to come as the song that defined last year. It might not be my absolute favourite track from Midnights but I was still so delighted to see this become such a massive hit for Taylor. She deserves to have more than one chart topping single in the UK and now I feel like this albums crazy success means it's likely she will add even more. The two most interesting things about this song for me are that she doesn't use the American pronunciation of 'anti' and the fact that the Waitress from 'It's Only Sunny' is in the music video.

Leah Kate's EOY History:

2022 44 10 Things I Hate About You

The first of two tracks that entered my chart after I saw the artist live as a support act. Leah was the opening act for Madison Beer this year and I I have to admit that this was the only song that stood out during her set. I was already aware of it because it was climbing Spotify and it entered the official top 100 on the day of the concert. I've linked the official video but it actually ruins the audio so I'd recommend checking out the 'Official Visualizer' instead. This is pretty cynical and clearly made for TikTok but it's a lot better than her other attempts at that. I've recently checked out her recent EP and found it to be, surprisingly, really good. There's a couple of duds but it's much stronger than I was expecting and she has had a mini-takeover of my charts with 'My Bed' reaching the top 2 so expect more from Leah in next years top 100.

2022 92 Used To Know Me

This is a pretty generic dance-pop track but Charli is one of the greatest minds in pop today and elevates into something more. It's a song where her presence is what won me over, had it been a different writer/vocalist I don't think I would have enjoyed it but Charli has a knack of making even her most mainstreaming sounding songs sound special.

I wasn't expecting this to become such a favourite of mine of hers. This ended up having four weeks at its peak of #4 because it the chorus just kept sounding better and better. It has slight country vibes with the guitars throughout the track and the slightly subdued verses make the chorus sound that little bit huger. It has certainly been one of the choruses that I had stuck in my mind the most in 2022.

I really wish there was space for this in my top 40. This is, by far, the standout track from the project with the posthumous verse from Doom being the highlight. Danger Mouse has talked about the importance of making sure they found the right beat as this would be the last chance he gets to produce for Doom and I think he nailed it with this. It's quite mellow and unflashy which allows the MCs to shine but it also has some lovely sampled vocals that get stuck in your head. I didn't realise this ended up getting a video, I'm going to watch that now.

Digga D started 2022 with a bang with this G-Unit sampling track becoming a top 10 hit. Aside from his album scrapping #1 on low sales, he seemed to lose a lot of momentum for the rest of the year as none of his frequent releases afterwards made the top 40. It feels like ages ago now but 2022 did give us some variety in terms of British rappers with two Scouse MCs having hits and Still Brickin is definitely the better of the two. His accent is much more agreeable and his pen game is a lot stronger too.

'Reckless' had a pretty solid run in my charts in 2021 but it wasn't until her tour early last year that it properly blew up in my chart, reaching #2. This was originally intended to be the lead single from her second album but it's not the case anymore despite it clearly being a track Madison loves. This is just a gorgeous track with some heavenly vocals. The Alice in Wonderland inspired video is such an fitting tone with the sound of the song.

I don't really want to make this post all about Kanye West and his disgusting barrage of comments and actions he has taken in 2022 but it at least needs to be acknowledged. The music video for this is mild compared to what was t come but is still uncomfortable in itself. On a purely musical level, Kanye's verse is what defines this song. He's never been the strongest lyricist but when his lines hit, they really hit like the 'therapist' line which made me audibly laugh the first time I listened to this. However, he loses track of the verse and if you cut out the 2nd half of the verse you wouldn't lose much (apart from the controversial Pete Davidson line that made the song go viral). The Game is largely superfluous on his own track and managed to lose any momentum this track gave the resurrection of his career with a godawful Eminem diss that no-one could take seriously. What makes this song work for me is the Eazy-E sample that is the single piece of music that was the most stuck in my head in 2022.

Now that the 2nd single has been confirmed, I can call this the highest placed album track from 'Midnights'. This definitely appears to be one of most under-appreciated moments on the album; the pitched vocals on the chorus work really well and there's some odd synths scattered about the track that bring an extra spice. It's fairly muted and light but it allows space for Taylor to tell her story.

This is an interesting track with the addition of strings meaning it's more than just a piano ballad. It's a very Disney song and not just because of the 'Beauty and the Beast' reference. She sounds beautiful and makes you think that she surely has a Disney soundtrack single in her in the future. I think it's curious how similar, sonically and even with it's title, this is to the the track that was originally intended to be the album's first single, 'Reckless'. After a great start, this had a steep drop when 'Born Pink' was released and was never really truly able to recover with the 2nd single coming out soon afterwards.

Their Plugged In was one of the best songs of 2021 and has spent another year in heavy rotation for me but I just didn't see them ever having a second hit in my charts but then they released this summer banger that was the soundtrack to my holiday to Barcelona. On their Plugged In it was Bas who stole the show with some of the slickest flows I've heard from any MC this decade, but Pete completely steals the song here. He has some great punches and the intricate internal rhyme scheme on his 2nd verse ("Come on then, Just touched down in Dublin...") is insane. I love the fact that they're not afraid to embrace the silliness of their image with a fun video with their 'crew'.

The first of three entries for Maisie Peters this year. She has recently announced that the lead single from her 2nd album is coming soon which would suggest that none of the three (or the fourth single she released last year) will be on the album which is a huge shame as they are bangers and are well-deserving of an inclusion on a proper project. This couldn't quite make it a hat-track of #1s form Maisie in 2022 as it was denied the top spot by Blackpink's 'Ready To Love' but it's still a huge bop and feels like it will be a pretty iconic moment in her career. She embraces a chaotic nature on this track and it's just really fun.

My favourite track from Dawn FM is 'Don't Break My Heart'. It's not one that is brought up a lot when people talk about the album but I just find the groove on it electric and the pitched-down vocals in the bridge are addictive. With Ari & Little Mix not releasing anything in 2022, The Weeknd becomes the only artist to have at least one entry in my EOY Top 100 for 9 years in a row which is mightily impressive.

This is probably the most basic release of theirs and it does veer dangerously close to being too juvenile at times but, as with all their songs, the chorus is too catchy to deny. The production is as wild and fun as always and their vocals get a chance to shine in the pre-chorus.

The highest album track from Born Pink and one that they seemed to love performing during tour. Both times I saw them, they seemed to have the most fun during 'Typa Girl' than any other song outside of the encore. This is one of their Hip-Hop influences tracks with Lisa providing a rapped second verse. I'm just happy that Jisoo gets a lot of solo lines on this track, especially in the last pre-chorus that she has all to her own and sounds lovely.

Sabrina's first release of 2022 and I was hopeful that this was going to build on the hype of 'Skin' and have some sort of chart success but it was just not to be. Having heard and enjoyed Sabrina's earlier work, this was the single that really convinced me that I could be a full-blown fan. It's errs close to being overwritten, but the lyrics are memorable and the song just bops along beautifully. Even the instrumental bridge is fire. I fell in love with this again when the album was released but the whole album was just so good that it could only re-enter near the bottom of my chart. It could have easily had another few weeks near it's peak, evidenced by it being in my top 20 most listened to songs last year. This is already comfortably Sabrina's highest place finish in one of my countdowns and she still has another track to go.
