52. Pink Oculus – HIDE [14-5-5-2-1-4-26]

53. Ljos, julek ploski, Ola Budzyńska – Melancholy [30-16-12-6-7-5-10-17]

54. Black Lilys – Störm [14-5-5-3-2-1-6-12]

55. WARGASM – Scratchcard Feeling [27-23-11-9-3-7-17]

"Scratchcard Feeling" is a strong screamo. The screams are energetic and the vocals are alternative. The structure is somewhat ubiquitous but the buildup is well done. The drop releases a lot of energy that it kinda feels haunting at times. :kink:

"Störm" is a ballad with not a lot of strings but drums! It starts off really peaceful, but it gradually picks up. This is typical of Black Lilys ballads. The airy vocals capture your attention. The climax is not the most epic one, but it is effective for me.

"Melancholy" is an amazing experimental piece. The producers surely do not hold back with distortions and synths. It lives off the Dies Irae motif, which is a common motif used in many unnerving music. However, this gives a totally different meaning to the motif. It overall feels somber, constructued through many forms. It doesn't have a buildup to the drop at the end, but I kinda like this structure, as it makes the piece unpredictable. It is a special listening experience and it's a memorable one.

"HIDE" is a sonically interesting alternative rap song. It's a rather subdued rap from Pink Oculus but for reason it breeds a lot of confidence. There is a lot of experimentation with the sound, as it takes different voices and special percussion, especially during the buildup. In the end, it gives a drop of an iconic but unwelcoming Pink Oculus rap line. It is honestly an enjoyable listening experience.

"Found" is another ballad with amazing strings. Little did I know this was composed by Ólafur Arnalds. I was kinda manifesting for this to appear on Worldvision VII but it was probably too niche. :kink: It starts off with little accompaniment, but the lush strings kicks in and girl it's really really lush. It touches me in a special way and leaves a great aftertaste as the song fades away.

This concludes part one of the top 100 songs of 2022! Come back tomorrow for part two, where I reveal the best song of 2022!! :w00t:

So I've only chosen the one song so far but it's the only one I've charted  it's a doozy though. Very chvrches-esque which I love. I expect big things from them in the future!

50: CHRISTL - I Wanna Leave

[(18-18-13-9)-5-3-1-2-8-31]

It is a highly emotional song. Austrian genderfluid singer CHRISTL has written a relatable ballad which talks about depressive phases and anxiety. The chorus makes a deep impact with the melody and chord progression. I really enjoyed the progression of the song and the arrangement is phenomenal. It is really touching.

49: Masha The Rich Man - My Soil

[21-16-10-6-4-6-4]

It's another huge ballad which is moving. The terrible war in Ukraine has dislocated a lot of people but they fought hard. This song talks about Maria's "motherland and the anger over what is happening to it". The instrumentation is simple, with just a piano accompaniment. However, this is effective as the piano brings different colour to the song with a variety of rhythm and melody. It is gripping.

48: Elisa - Se Não Me Amas

[9-4-2-1-3-5-13]

It's an exceptionally beautiful Portuguese ballad. Elisa conveyed pure emotions in this song. The orchestral accompaniment is phenomenal. The chorus is simply epic as she belts the long note. The strings just did it for me.

47: Ragnar Ólafsson, Sólveig Ásgeirsdóttir - Urðarþráður

[25-12-2-1-3-8-19]

This is a beautiful Icelandic ballad with amazing strings. Its relatively simple orchestration makes this song really intimate, coupled with Sólveig Ásgeirsdóttir's delicate vocals. I love the melody and the chord progression. The ballad builds on a big climax at the end, where the pedal note brings all the epicness and tension release to this wonderful record.

46: Tides From Nebula - The Sweetest Way To Die

[33-28-17-10-10-7-21]

Coming up is my latest Nuggets entry, this is an amazing post-rock track. It is long but I love the slow flow here. It guides on you on a journey. There are highs and ups, and it does not sound one-note. I do wish the ending to be slightly more epic, but the instrumentation is brilliant.

45: Pabllo Vittar, Mc Carol - Descontrolada

[22-15-13-7-5-3-2-4]

Possibly the most popular drag queen in the world, Pabllo Vittar delivers another amazing upbeat banger. Decsontrolada is fun and entertaining. Mc Carol brings all the energy the song needs. It is refreshing. The vocals give the song a different dimension, though some may find it grating. The dance drop is really catchy and memorable. I love bopping to this banger x

44: Katerine Duska, Leon of Athens - BABEL

[45-13-10-7]

WOWW!! I couldn't believe Katerine Duska, participant for Greece in Eurovision 2019, made it to Grammy's! :o Together with Leon of Athens, they created a beautiful Greek ballad. The choir, the strings, the arrangement are all beautiful. It is a work of art. The climax is really good!

43: Emilie Nicolas - Easy

[14-11-4-1-12]

This reminds me of Highasakite's "Autopsy" for the structure. I love the sophistication in the synths. It continues to build up through each drop, which introduces a new instrument line that enriches the harmony. The music video only features the latter half of the song, but I believe the sedated first half is equally important in the coherence of the song.

42: FLAVIA - I Am Sin

[10-5-4-2-1-3-10]

This is a thought-provoking song. It tackles homophobia and other taboos in Christianity, which is something I find disturbing because homophobia sounds so out of place in a religion that emphasises love. I love one reviewer says about FLAVIA's music: "What I’ve been particularly drawn to is the way FLAVIA tackles subject matter that’s often (or at least has been) viewed as taboo." It's a self-reclaiming song, and makes you think whether we as humans sometimes twist meanings to fit our own hateful narrative.

41: Tanya Tagaq - Teeth Agape

[6-4-2-29]

Tanya Tagaq is known for throat singing, but that's not happening here. I love the spoken monologue. It is raw, filled with anger. The instrumentation is jarring, and fits the narrative really well. It is meant to be dissonant, but the dissonance is what makes this song powerful, memorable and impactful.

40: Inkt - Laat me nog even

[14-11-12-11-7-5-4-19]

It's a powerful song, and the music video is simple yet effective. There is a simple melody which is constantly repeated, supported by a simple chord progression. I think the limited arrangement works really well for the song. A quick buildup to a big climax in the end makes this song sound really epic. It is a work of art.

39: Nocktern, SAÍGO - Hollow

[42-25-16-15-10-6-5-18]

This is yet another phenomenal post-rock song. The instrumentation is rich and strong as it transitions from a rather calm theme to an epic theme. The high notes at the end are iconic. It is unsettling but the atmosphere is simply incredible.

38: FLAMINIA ft. Yosh Whale - capo/volto

[28-20-14-12-10-2-1-5-26]

It is a Sovarasman BJSC entry that I really loved. It has a lot of variation and the instrumentation is highly sophisticated. It has a similar structure to a typical pop song, but there is experimentation to how it sounds and how the verses build and connect with the chorus. I really like the drop to the bridge, which is an extraordinary moment. Sadly, it flopped so hard in the semi that I feel disheartened for liking this sort of music. :(

37: Hyphen Hyphen - Call My Name

[4-2-1-5]

This reached my number one last week, and this is a well-produced pop song. The strings are epic but SANTA's vocals at the end are powerful. They are then superceded by a majestic instrumental break which brings this song to a great ending.

36: Ginge Anvik, Audun Sandvik, Thomas Klug, The Norwegian Radio Orchestra - Ostinat

[12-7-4-1-4-7-8-17]

This is a lovely orchestral song. It features the cello which I came to master when I grew up x I love when the spotlight is just on the cello. It is reminiscent of a typical concerto, but a short one. There are intermittent interactions with the orchestra until the end, where a string of arppegios build up to a grand climax, featuring a world of beautiful melodies and harmonies. Unfortunately, there is a rather annoying edit error in this part, where you can obviously here a rough cut in the recording, though it does not impact the overall mood of the piece.

35: Meszecsinka - Kamwa

[30-10-10-31]

Despite a brief stint on my chart and only peaking at number 10, it is amazing to revisit this gorgeous piece. This takes inspiration of the band's performance at the festival Kamwa at the Northern Ural Mountains. The nomadic sound and the chilling vocals captured my attention. The vocals especially are one-of-a-kind. I'm immediately drawn to the technique and the variation of the vocal style. The instrumentation varies a bit but I don't think it's the main character here.
