Analysis

 

Album Chart: 4 Non-Movers, 8 Up, 8 Down: Merry Xmas everyone!!! The Xmas album chart sees no new entries due to lack of releases but does see some notable climbers…Carrie Underwood, Cascada, Popjustice, Shakira, Nelly Furtado, Clubland 10, Delta Goodrem and Girls Aloud all make gains this week!!! Elsewhere in the Christmas top 10 there are slides from Sarah McLachlan and Now 65…Ministry of Sound: The Annual 2007 kicks off the festive top 5 as a non-mover while All Saints fall to No.4 with their former No.1 album Studio 1 which swaps places with Girls Aloud’s Hits collection…Gwen Stefani spends her 3rd chart week at No.2 which means that for a 4th week in a row its Take That’s Beautiful World which tops the chart!!!

 

Singles Chart: 5 New Entries, 4 Up, 11 Down: Big week for new songs as Dance producer Ben Macklin, the excellent Nerina Pallot, new singer Mika and a great track from Take That make entries into the top 20…Bodyrox, Shakira (yes Hips Don’t Lie makes it to the xmas chart!!!) All Saints and Nelly Furtado have small slips while Gwen Stefani and Eric Prydz dive out of the top 10 this week…Take That start the top 10 with Mancunian Way which falls 4 places while Gwen Stefani, Cascada (finally scoring a second top 10 hit), Take That’s Wooden Boat and Girls Aloud’s I think we’re alone now all climb to new peaks!!! All Saints mammoth former No.1 Rock Steady makes the festive top 5 and only dips a place to No.5 while Take That’s Patience has brilliant longevity for a No.2 single spending 9th week in the top 6!!! Mason and Princess Superstar fall a place to No.3 while Take That just miss out on the Christmas chart topper as Shine falls to No.2 this week…This means that X-Factor winner 21 year old Leona Lewis goes straight in at No.1 with A moment like this, a ballad that Kelly Clarkson previously took to No.18 in my chart in 2005!!!

***MIDWEEK UPDATE***

 

The last chart of the year or the first of the new year if you like will be announced on Sunday and Leona looks set for a battle on her hands for a 2nd week at the top...Take That and Mason are still hovering about while newcomer Mika looks set for at least a ten place climb with the poptastic Grace Kelly...

 

Over in the album chart, Take That are currently still ahead and seeking a 5th week at No.1 but Gwen Stefani, Girls Aloud and All Saints are all close...plus will any sale items grace the chart?
