June 9, 20232 yr Author Shaun Murphy has slammed the length of many of the bans handed out to the Chinese match-fixers – insisting they were “too soft”. Former world champion Murphy, 40, was one of the players of last season – winning the Players’ and Tour Championship titles, as well as reaching the Welsh Open final. And the world No7 was also one of very few to call for life bans should those suspended be found guilty of serious match-fixing offences.
June 21, 20232 yr Author Five players have received increased bans from Chinese authorities for their involvement in snooker match-fixing. Former Masters champion Yan Bingtao, 23, and ex-UK Championship winner Zhao Xintong, 26, are among those handed harsher punishments by the Chinese Billiards and Snooker Association. Bingtao will be prevented from returning to the World Snooker Tour for seven and a half years, despite initially receiving a five-year ban. Xintong is suspended until July 2025. Lu Ning's ban has been extended to eight years, Bai Langning's to four years and Zhang Jiankang's to four years and five months.

October 10, 20231 yr Author Ronnie O'Sullivan kept hold of his number one ranking after winning five frames in a row to beat Ken Doherty 5-1 in the Wuhan Open first round. The seven-time world champion would have been knocked off the top of the rankings by Luca Brecel, who is not playing in China, if he had lost. But, after going 1-0 down, O'Sullivan went on to secure a comfortable win. Mark Allen could still overtake O'Sullivan as world number one if he wins the tournament. Allen came from 4-3 down to beat Mark Joyce 5-4 in the first ranking event to be held in Asia after four years off the calendar.
October 24, 20231 yr Author Holder Mark Allen has been knocked out of the Northern Ireland Open in a shock second-round defeat by Andres Petrov. Antrim native Allen, who was aiming for a third consecutive home title win, lost 4-3 to the world number 96 at Belfast's Waterfront Hall. Allen came from 3-1 down to level but the Estonian won it in a 02:00 finish. Jordan Brown, also from Antrim, delighted the home crowd by beating former world champion Neil Robertson 4-1 in the last 64. Allen, who in the build-up to the tournament said the World Snooker Tour schedule was "very restrictive" for players, said on social media: "Not to be tonight. "Gave it absolutely everything but came up just short. Thanks to everyone for their support as always here in Belfast. It doesn't go unnoticed and you deserved better. Back to the practice table for me."
November 12, 20231 yr Author China's Zhang Anda made a stunning 147 break on his way to winning the International Championship in Tianjin. Zhang knocked in the maximum score in the third frame of his 10-6 win over England's Tom Ford as he claimed a first ranking title. The home favourite moved clear with breaks of 86 and 101 but Ford recovered to level the match at 5-5. Zhang, who beat world number one Ronnie O'Sullivan in the semi-finals, won five of the next six to wrap up the victory.
