ODI World Cup in India

October 26th - November 26th

There is also the Women's T20 World Cup from South Africa next month.

I am still watching the BBL, I have never watched it before. Quite interesting, the idea of a power surge of 2 overs from the 11th over onwards replacing 2 power play overs.

Hashim Amla, South Africa's second highest Test run-scorer of all time, has retired at the age of 39.

Amla scored 9,282 runs - second only to Jacques Kallis' 13,206 - at an average of 46.64 in 124 Tests.

He amassed 18,672 in all formats for the Proteas from 2004 to 2019, and no-one has scored more than his 27 one-day centuries for South Africa.

Amla's 311 not out against England at The Oval in 2012 remains the highest Test score by a South African.

If I understand correctly Australia only need one draw for their 4 match series against India to qualify for the Test Championship final in London.

South Africa have given Marizanne Kapp "compassionate leave" after her wife Dane van Niekerk was left out of the country's Women's T20 World Cup squad.

Van Niekerk was omitted for February's tournament, which South Africa is hosting, as she failed "to meet the minimum criteria for fitness".

Kapp will miss the final T20 of a triangular series against India.

"The leave was granted so she can come back ready to play," said South Africa coach Hilton Moreeng

Moreeng added of Kapp's absence from Thursday's game: "She is part of the World Cup [and] she is committed to the World Cup cause.

"She needed a break for compassionate leave and it was granted to her because we felt we are very happy with the form she is in, as far as her skills are considered."

Matthew Hoggard, Tim Bresnan and John Blain have withdrawn from the disciplinary process relating to allegations of historical racism at Yorkshire.

The three were among seven individuals, along with Yorkshire, charged by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) over allegations made by Azeem Rafiq.

They join former Yorkshire captain and head coach Andrew Gale in withdrawing.

Perth Scorchers won the Big Bash for the fifth time with a thrilling five-wicket victory over Brisbane Heat.

Nick Hobson hit a six and a four in successive balls as the Scorchers chased down their target of 176 with just four balls to spare in Perth.

A half-century from Ashton Turner and a lively cameo from Cooper Connolly helped set the platform for the win.

Nathan McSweeney earlier top-scored with 41 for the Heat as they posted 175-7 from their 20 overs.

Former England captain Charlotte Edwards has been appointed head coach of Mumbai Indians' women's team in the inaugural Women's Premier League.

The 43-year-old led England to 50-over and T20 World Cup glory in 2009 during a glittering 20-year international career.

Since retiring as a player in 2017 she has coached in England and Australia.

The WPL, a T20 competition featuring five Indian franchises, runs from 4-24 March.

Former India players Jhulan Goswami and Devieka Palshikaar have been named as bowling and batting coaches respectively.

I watched that, it was indeed thrilling. It seemed over when Turner got run out but Connolly came in and hit the boundaries they needed to keep up with the required run rate.

India dominated the opening day of their series against Australia to take control of the first Test in Nagpur.

Spinner Ravindra Jadeja took 5-47 on his return from injury as Australia were dismissed for 177 on a turning pitch soon after tea.

A steady stand of 82 between Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith had taken the tourists to 84-2 before a collapse of 8-93 against India's three spinners.

Spinner Todd Murphy took five wickets on his Australia debut but Rohit Sharma's century helped India build a big lead on day two of the first Test.

Rohit hit a classy 120 as the hosts closed on 321-7 in Nagpur, leading by 144 despite off-spinner Murphy's 5-82.

India were 229-6, just 52 ahead, when Rohit was bowled by Pat Cummins after tea but Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel then put on an unbroken stand of 81.

Ollie Pope says he is not thinking about becoming England captain in the future, but it "might be an option".

Batter Pope, 25, has twice led England in warm-ups this winter and was in line to skipper had Ben Stokes not been fit for the first Test in Pakistan.

England head coach Jon Lewis has been appointed to lead Women's Premier League (WPL) side UP Warriorz.

The UP Warriorz, who will be based in Lucknow, are one of five teams involved in the inaugural WPL, which starts on 4 March.

Lewis was bowling coach for the England men's team in 2021, before taking up his current role with England's women.

"I expect this to be a fascinating insight into the depth of cricket in India," said Lewis.

Paul Stirling and Josh Little will miss Ireland's April Tests in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka as they juggle international and franchise cricket commitments.

Opener Stirling will concentrate on white-ball cricket this year as Ireland aim to secure World Cup qualification.

Indian Premier League-contracted left-arm seamer Little will play in the one-day internationals in Bangladesh before missing the rest of the tour.

Former Zimbabwe wicketkeeper Peter Moor has received a first Ireland call-up.

Australia certainly have their work cut out for them if they’re to even consider a draw. Hopefully day 3 is good for them.

England pace bowler Ollie Robinson says Test cricket does not need "gimmicky" day-night matches.

England's first Test in a two-match series against New Zealand in Mount Maunganui on Thursday (01:00 GMT) is a day-nighter, played under floodlights with a pink ball.

"There's nothing wrong with Test cricket to start with," said Robinson.

"I'm not a massive fan of the pink ball. I don't think we need to play these pink-ball games."

Day-night matches are common in limited-overs cricket and were introduced to the longest form of the game with the aim of raising the profile of Test cricket, both by increasing attendances and TV audiences.

There have been 20 day-night men's Tests since the first in 2015, played in seven different countries by 10 different teams.

They have proved popular in Australia, where 11 day-nighters have taken place, all won by the home side, including two in the Ashes series of 2021-22. There have also been three women's day-night Tests in Australia.

Stuart Broad's devastating late burst put England on course for victory over New Zealand on day three of the first Test in Mount Maunganui.

Bowling with the pink ball under lights in one of his trademark destructive spells, Broad took four of the five wickets to fall, all bowled, to leave New Zealand in tatters on 63-5 in their chase of 394.

Broad's first wicket, that of Devon Conway, was the 1,002nd he and James Anderson have taken in Tests together, making them the most successful bowling partnership in the history of the game.
