October 8, 20231 yr Author Terri Harper missed out on becoming the unified light-middleweight champion after being held to a majority draw in her title fight with Cecilia Braekhus. Harper retains her WBA title but was not able to claim the vacant WBO belt against the experienced Braekhus. One judge scored the fight 97-93 to Harper, but it was called as 95-95 by the other two. Harper's promotor Eddie Hearn said the result was "a joke". Speaking after the fight, the Doncaster fighter said she felt like she "did just enough to win".
October 10, 20231 yr Author Promoter Eddie Hearn says there is "a huge desire from both camps" to make a Conor Benn-Chris Eubank fight happen. He has targeted 23 December and wants it to be in Cardiff - despite Benn not having a licence to fight in the UK. The pair were set to meet 12 months ago - 30 years after their fathers Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank Sr fought - but the bout was cancelled after Benn failed two voluntary doping tests. "We have every intention to make it happen," Hearn told BBC Radio 5 live. Hearn said Anthony Joshua, whom he also promotes, could feature on the bill too, with a proposed fight against American heavyweight Deontay Wilder not yet confirmed. Benn, 27, has always insisted he is innocent of intentionally doping.
October 10, 20231 yr Author A boxing trainer who "carelessly" brought a gun into the UK has received a suspended sentence due to "exceptional circumstances". Brian "Bomac" McIntyre forgot an automatic self-loading pistol was in a section of his suitcase when he flew from the US in August, a court heard. Manchester Airport officials found it as he prepared to fly home. McIntyre, 53, who was in the UK training Chris Eubank Jr, was jailed for 20 months, suspended for two years.
October 18, 20231 yr Author The all-British fight between light-heavyweights Joshua Buatsi and Dan Azeez has been postponed after Azeez suffered a back injury in training. Buatsi, 30, and Azeez, 33, were set to fight in a final eliminator at London's O2 Arena on Saturday for the right to meet WBA world champion Dmitry Bivol. "I'm devastated for this to happen on fight week," said Azeez, who is ranked second with the WBA with Buatsi first.
November 8, 20231 yr Author Oleksandr Usyk hopes his heavyweight world title fight with Tyson Fury will take place in February in Saudi Arabia. The Ukrainian was set to fight Fury on 23 December but promoter Frank Warren said last week that is "unlikely". Fury secured a controversial split-decision victory over former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in the Gulf kingdom last month. Usyk, 36, said he was ready for the December bout but a new date could be decided next week. Speaking to Reuters through an interpreter from his training camp in Valencia, Spain, Usyk said he would "very much like" the Fury fight to happen in February.
December 5, 20231 yr Author Featherweight world champion Amanda Serrano has vacated her WBC title after the organisation refused to sanction 12 three-minute round contests. Serrano, 35, retained her WBA, WBO and IBF titles against Danila Ramos by unanimous decision in October. Women's bouts are usually contested over 10 two-minute rounds. "The WBC has refused to evolve the sport for equality, so I am relinquishing their title," Puerto Rico's Serrano posted on Instagram. "Thank you to the sanctioning bodies who have evolved for equality. If you want to face me in the ring, you have a choice. I've made mine."
December 10, 20231 yr Author Devin Haney claimed a unanimous points victory over Regis Prograis to secure the WBC light-welterweight title in San Francisco. American Haney dominated his compatriot and knocked him down in the third round, with all three judges scoring the bout 120-107 in Haney's favour. It was Haney's first fight at 140 pounds, having previously been the undisputed lightweight champion. "I felt so much stronger - 140 got a new king," Haney, 25, said.
