Posted January 26, 20232 yr 22nd January 2023 It's Avril Lavigne and YUNGBLUD topping my chart with the fab I'm A Mess, why it's not been a hit is a mystery, hey ho. Avril gets a number one finally, after 21 years of trying and brings along YUNGBLUD for his first chart hit (my niece has tickets for his concert tour). New in at 3, the fab TV show has lost it's main voice actor for reasons I won't go into, but this featured record for the band Tennis is just gorgeous, Borrowed Time. Reverend & The Makers get 2 top 5's in a row, and The Levellers have been absent from my charts for 29 years (gulp!) but bang back and then some at 6 with the fab Down By The River 'O', their biggest record by far. Eloise Viola debuts at 19 and That Ain't Right - sounding a little bit Bond a little bit twangy guitar country. Bally Sagoo gets a 3rd top 40 some 26 years on from the last one, Armin van Buuren a 3rd top 40 in 10 years, and following his sad passing, David Crosby triggers 3 classic oldies into my chart, The Byrds' Eight Miles High, a psychedelic rock gem at 39, and Mr.Tambourine Man the classic 1965 Dylan-cover folkrock gamechanger returns for the first time in 30 years or so, and Crosby, Stills & Nash's Marrakesh Express topped my chart in 2005 as an oldie and sneaks back in. RHODES get a 3rd chart entry 9 years on from debuting Your Soul, Loi and Darin both debut with good new tracks, Kishi Bashi charts another oldie, the 10-year-old Manchester, Richard Marx keeps his current run of new hits going, and 5 singing female legends combine for a movie soundtrack film starring 4 legendary older female stars of the 60's. Alison Goldfrapp is back again, following a recent feature, Goldfrapp, like Richard Marx, being former chart-toppers and extending her chart run to 23 years. So that means Dolly Parton is back (and obviously the driving force on the record) as she regularly is, for 47 years of chart action, Belinda Carlisle a mere 41 years (including Gogo's tracks), Cyndi Lauper not even 40-years yet, Gloria Estefan a piffling 39 years too, and Debbie Harry a substantial 45 years. All tend to make my charts when they release something new, and Cyndi has topped my charts with Jean-Michelle Jarre in the last decade, Blondie have also last done it in the 00's, but poor Gloria has been absent 23 years or 19 if you count the Mylo Doctor Pressure revamp of Doctor Beat. Four of the quintet topped my charts previously, but Dolly, amazingly, has never had a number one in my chart! B-) The last week has also been manic, people are jumping ship at work as our Council makes the wrong sort of headlines, and I had all the family round which has given me another sore throat (kids love to share germs!) ahead of me doing London, Merseyside and Weymouth over 3 weekends in Feb, doh! Hope work has steadied a bit for you! I loved The Traitors, can't see it not being picked up again! I think it was telling in the UK someone made a magnanimous gesture of self-sacrifice for the final - and the US version didn't! :lol: Flowers has well-surpassed my modest expectations for it, I'm guessing mellow is the order of the day thanks to Harry Styles! I have to say I was wondering where Debbie Harry was too! I keep listening and THINK she has a line or two or harmony bits but it's not easy to be sure where she starts and Gloria Estefan ends as both vocal ranges have dropped over the years.... :o cheers and thanks for the picks as always!
