Sorry a week late due to a manic lifestyle that has left no time for charts, so 2-in-a-row instead:

It's up to the top spot for A House Is Not A Home, previously topping my chart for the Glee Cast (or, technically, Chris Colfer, while the Kristin Chenowith mash-up version with One Less Bell To Answer hit 2). What can I say, one of Burt Bacharach's most heart-rending songs, so appropriate he gets a number one credit at last, along with Dusty Springfield's 8th number one. First recorded by Dionne Warwick in 1964, but nobody (including Dusty herself) has bettered this live performance from the summer of 1970.

 

Ultra Nate gets a 2nd top 10 with the same song, Free is still as fab as it was in the 90's, albeit with added strings and snip of Rozalla's Everybody's Free, while Stephen Sanchez rockets belatedly into the top 20 and Oliver Tree & Robin Schulz return with Miss You after I had a moment singing along with family at my nephews 18th birthday meal after my great-nephew (6 years old) insisted on playing his fave record on his ipad. I insisted he turn it up louder so I could hear it. He knew the words better than me though. He also had chicken pox, it turns out. Oops!

 

Depeche Mode leap into the top 40 with their best track in over 15 years, so good Radio 2 has playlisted it. Linda Ronstadt joins the 1970 revival after The Last Of Us feature, Long, Long Time (like Dusty) being another I didnt know in 1970 and therefore have never charted, up into the top 30. Going top 40 is Far From Saints, following on Hanging On Your Hinges doing the same for co-vocalist Kelly's Stereophonics day job in 2021, and 26 years of chart-running.

 

New at 65 is Thomas Rhett back again with a Doris Day sample, that's a 7th for Thomas in 8 years, and an 8th for Doris in 36 years since her 1964 movie theme classic Move Over Darling topped my charts. It would be 59 years but I hadnt started my charts at 6 - still 4 years to go. Jason Mraz also gets an 8th 15 years from debuting, Alison Goldfrapp has 2 on the chart, and Everything But The Girl are back together in dance mode, vocally lower but making it 39 years of quality records after a gap of 25 years or so, bar a remix of Wrong.

 

Finally, the late Olivia Newton-John is back with posthumous material, a cover of Dolly Parton's 1976 top 3 Jolene, along with Dolly herself - that's 2 on the chart for Dolly, and Olivia's first appearance with new material for 25 years, and a chart span of 52 years.

Hi there John!

Nice to see "Can't Stay Away" reaching the top 10, it was a top 10 for me last year, when I heard it first on italian radios. I also like the big gains for "Until I Found You", "Ghosts Again", "Silent Running" and "Pearls".

Unlike the returning "Miss You" (which I still don't like, sorry.), I do like the debuts for "Heaven" and "Jolene" (even though I haven't heard the version with ONJ & Dolly, the original is a classic and I also like another version of it by The BossHoss & The Common Linnetts).

It's a second revived chart-topper for Linda Ronstadt as her gorgeous 1970 version of Long, Long Time knocks off fellow 1970 track A House Is Not A Home, and it's almost as gorgeous as her chart-topper with Different Drum, the brilliant 1967 Michael Nesmith (of The Monkees fame) US hit for Stone Poneys, her first band. The song charted in 1977 for me as B side of one of her minor hits in the UK and had a run on top in the 00's. Depeche Mode meanwhile get their first top 10 since Precious in 2005 with Ghosts Again.

 

Candi Staton has another lesser remix out of her 1976 soul disco classic Young Hearts Run Free, so I've gone for the original as it can't be improved on since it peaked at 2 and now back at 42. Sophie Ellis-Bextor adds a solo hit to her feature on this chart, she's Breaking The Circle, at 58. Sal Solo's 1985 San Damiano is also back for a second run, Bruce Springsteen covers the 1985 Commodores hit, Nighshift to extend his chart-span to 48 years, a 1988 track from When In Rome debuts, and the chart also welcomes another live, unreleased track onto the chart - this time Jake Shears version of Pet Shop Boys' Rent, along with Neil Tennant, for a 2nd post-Scissor Sisters track on my chart currently.

Nice to see "Can't Stay Away" reaching the top 10, it was a top 10 for me last year, when I heard it first on italian radios. I also like the big gains for "Until I Found You", "Ghosts Again", "Silent Running" and "Pearls".

Unlike the returning "Miss You" (which I still don't like, sorry.), I do like the debuts for "Heaven" and "Jolene" (even though I haven't heard the version with ONJ & Dolly, the original is a classic and I also like another version of it by The BossHoss & The Common Linnetts).

Hi Jordan! :) Thanks for the congrats on Eloise, and the support! :wub: I was hoping she'd do well and it was funny to see her in the running early on - I don't get TOO excited when my songs do well as I always expect the late Indiebloc to take the wind out of any pop-based songs I enter :lol: Or vice versa if I go for something off the wall, but they tend not to do well anyway so there's never any danger of being in the running (bar the occasional Kishi Bashi).

 

Thanks for the picks, and I'm glad P!nk's first single off the album grew on you, it's so joyful. Trustfall is good too, but not quite up there for me (though it's done better UK chart-wise!). I was also a big fan of Donna Lewis' 90's smash, nice to have it back again in modified form :)

Thanks for the fave picks! That Linda Ronstadt song is one I must have flicked through 3 years ago while I was reviewing 1970 hits, but I just didn't notice it! The difference a great TV placement can make! :cheer: Thanks for the Eloise support and wishes, too, always nice to get a top 20 finish!

 

Far From Saints is still C listed on Radio 2 - they dont seem inclined to raise it any higher, but they also at least are keeping it on there for a good run! I love that Avril Lavigne song, and my niece saw Yungblud in concert the other week so a top fave in our family! I think I prob had a similar reaction to Gorillaz/Stevie Nicks as you did to Avril - I'm not sure I've even heard it, TBH but I prob have. Playing it now. Sounds good! Itunes basket...

 

I tried the Candi Staton remix, but TBH I prefer the original version and that's never made my charts as an oldie so I opted for that one using the remix as an excuse :D And it is unusual for you to not go for the remix (SEB) :o :lol: It's lovely having EBTG back, even if Tracey's voice is noticeably deeper and duskier!

 

The Jake Shears version of Rent is on Radio 2 iplayer I think, though I wouldnt be surprised if it got added to an EP or album at some stage.
