Voting for my top 3 - River is great and the other two are pretty good too, Mae's song has really grown on me already. Mother is hardly a masterpiece but it's still fun and it's been stuck in my head since Meghan started teasing it on TikTok, not vote-worthy tho imo! NF on the other hand sounds incredibly dated, easy last place for me.

2. Calvin Harris & Ellie Goulding - Miracle

3. Mae Muller - I Wrote A Song

Easy top 2 this time, Lovers Rock being in the charts at this point is a strange sight (i'm surprised it's scored double digit votes here too lmao) and Miracle is a bop as well. Still haven't listened to more than 10 seconds of that Meghan song (nor will I ever do so)

Working on the new poll now, one of these weeks I will have decent enough time management to actually post it on a Saturday again :kink:

Voted in this one yesterday afternoon but didn't get around to my usual mini reviews yet oop, here's what I remember:

1 'Miracle' - feels very much like a pastiche but I guess it's been long enough since there were last chart hits like this that it's feeling fairly fresh, has grown on me with each listen so far as well, good stuff 9/10

2 'Lovers Rock' - I think this one will grow on me more but a very strong first impression, does not sound much like a chart hit so hooray TikTok throwing some oddities into the chart as ever, I want to say it reminds me a bit of The Avalanches or something? 8.5/10

3 'River' - found this one a lot more instant than 'Flowers' and probably better overall, a bit Gaga vibes 8/10

4 'Jaded' - only a place behind 'River' here but quite a big gap in quality, this is a decent enough ballad (although feel like it's pushing her vocals a little bit too far at points) but feels very much like an album track so a little miffed that this is seemingly now being pushed instead of 'River' 6/10

5 'I Wrote A Song' - not as bad as I expected from the lyrics and people describing it as fitting the current Love Island core chart sound, the production at least doesn't sound as bargain basement as Becky Hill et al, but still pretty firmly mid and not helped by the pretty cringe spoken part 5/10

6 'Energy' - a step in the right direction compared to some of his other recent charting songs, I do quite like the instrumental but the hook doesn't really hit for me and still some pretty choice lyrics here and there 5/10

7 'Home For My Heart' - people were really not kidding comparing this to 'My G' lol, I wasn't a big fan of that either but I still thought it had a bit of a charm to it due to the context around it, not so much in this case (unless it also has some kind of back story which I'm not aware of), this one is just bland. Still the best of Cat Burns' 3 top 100 hits to date though I guess so there's that 4/10

8 '1 On 1' - this is actually comfortably my least favourite of the DBE hits so far this year, largely the same turgid slush sonically as ever but with more cringeworthy lyrics than the last two, just saved a place in my bottom 2 by virtue of a pair of even bigger horrors 1.5/10

9 'MOTTO' - the lyrics of this are about NF making the music he wants to make rather than chasing hits... please go back to chasing hits if this is anything to go by lol. This doesn't even have the vaguely cool if stock sounding production from his last song, just can't see why anyone would want to listen to this more than once if that. Also lol that he has the shtick of being a rapper that doesn't swear but he still hints at a swear word and just self censors, he could not be more corny if he tried 1/10

10 'Mother' - I honestly had to think a bit about which of this bottom 2 was worse but I settle on this because I know Meghan is at least capable of making music that's fun to listen to even if it's quite tacky (I still like 'Made You Look' x). But this is just garbage. I counted at least three moments during this where I could feel my soul detaching from my body (the worst of which being her flipping the 'Mr. Sandman' sample to say 'you just a bum', The Chordettes are all collectively spinning in their graves). A generous 0.5/10 as I suppose it's nice to hear the sample there even if it's used in an awful way, I don't think this quite gives me the heebie jeebies as much as 'The Kind Of Love We Make' so I'll spare it being my second 0 of the year x

Voted for the top 3.
