What are the movies that have endings that are open to interpretation? And how did that ending make you feel?

I still don't understand the ending of The Shining. With that picture with them in it.

Definitely a good thing.... Endings that are open to interpretation make you think and stimulate a good debate amongst friends over a coffee or a pint after the film because endings that are open mean different people take different things from it....

 

Of course, you get your sponge-heads who dont want to/are incapable of thinking about a film, but I reckon they miss out on so much just by looking at the surface and not going a little deeper into themes and ideas that are not altogether obvious...

 

Films that dont lend themselves to a bit of individual interpretation are lacking in any imagination on the part of the film-makers and are just totally formulaic and frankly boring...

I as exactly the same. Infact I still onder wether the doctor did actually survive. :o

 

I think films that end like this are clever but they're also very annoying at the same time as I hate the fact that you don't know what actually happens and you just have to have your own idea of what actually happened.

I was thinking even if he did crawl for a bit, after Jigsaw said 'Game Over' and closed the door, Dr Gordon wouldn't have got very far and he probably killed him. Or maybe he just died from blood loss.

Didn't we see Dr Gordon's dead body in the hallway in "Saw 2"...? I'm sure Donnie Wahlberg's character passed it on his way to the "room"....

see, this is what I'm talking about... Here's three of us, sitting down at our PCs, miles apart having a healthy debate about what the ending of "Saw" means.... :lol: Proof that endings open to interpretation are the best.... :)

I can't really remember seeing that in Saw 2. You're probably right though, I haven't seen it for ages.

I was on Wiki actually reading about some of the Saw charchters. :lol: :( And well the person whoever did Dr Gordon's little part seem to have him down as his fate unknown. :D

think if the film is open to interpretation it can be classed as 'art', if its not and is a cynical piece of work for an intended audience then should be thought as mearly a piece of design.
