Are these films worth buying? They sound good but I'd like some opinions.

I'm thinking about getting The Devils Rejects, but read that it's a sequel to House Of A 1000 Corpses. Does it matter if you don't watch the first one or is it best to see them in order?

Devils Rejects is a sequel, but you don't need to have seen the first one at all. I saw Devils Rejects and thought it was absolutely great, and I still haven't seen House of 1000 Corpses either. I've heard House of... is rubbish...

I prefer House of 1000 corpses. Its a ****ed up film and i love it lol. Freaked me out.

They are both £4.99 on HMV online so I was thinking of getting both, TDR is a special edition with loads of extras. House Of... sounds really good.

"Devil's Rejects" is a TRUE Horror film, none of this namby-pamby pandering to American teenagers or trying to be all 'ironic' and 'post-modern' either..... It's gritty, it's nasty, it's very adult in its treatment of the subject and its themes.... I think you're intelligent enough to be able to really get this film and understand the intent of the film-makers. It's very much based upon the 'Manson Family' murders of the early 70s. It's very much a modern-day successor to the great 70s Horrors of Tobe Hooper, Wes Craven and George Romero....

"House of 1000 Corpses" is pretty okay, but it lacks the sheer ambition of "Devil's Rejects"....

Rob Zombie seriously knows his sh!t, one of the best modern Horror Film directors of the 21st Century...

a remake??

Actually it could be a prequel or something like that, not sure to be honest

Rob Zombie is doing the remake of Halloween isn't he?

A quick look over on IMDb yields the information that you are correct.... Writer and Director... Well, I have no real fears over this particular remake.... I reckon this one could turn out to be of as high a standard as the recent "Hills Have Eyes" remake....

This thread isn't about Halloween

I've seen both of these films.

Devil's Reject's is a very violent movie involving alot of swearing and is a bit sick in places. Not really my kind of thing. 6/10

House of 1000 corpses - I watched this only last week. Its not one of the best horror movies out there. The ending is quite good but inbetween I got kinda bored and didnt think it had much of a storyline and the acting was quite poor. 5/10

It's not a horror film for kids though is it...? Real Horror's supposed to be disturbing or a bit sick... It aint meant to be a 'feel good' experience... If you dont feel a bit shocked and disturbed then the fillm aint doing its job, ie, to invoke horror in the viewer...

I think there is a difference though between a horror movie that is shocking and disturbing and one that is just blatantly sick. Dont get me wrong, I do like a good horror movie but for me, Devil's Rejects over stepped the mark and took the horror feel too far.

Well, back in the day, the Hammer Horror films were accused of 'over-stepping the mark' and being 'gory' as well, so it's all down to perception innit..? "The Exorcist" was banned for years from video in the UK, stuff like "Night of the Living Dead", "Texas Chainsaw Massacre", "Evil Dead", "Natural Born Killers", etc were accused of being 'sick' and 'depraved' as well.. One critic called "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" a "sick little piece of c**p" back in the 70s and I think now we look back at that and say how silly it was for anyone to say that... So, I reckon in 20 years time or so, "Devil's Rejects" isn't gonna seem quite so hard-core....

I dont really see anywhere in the film that oversteps the mark to be honest mate, I wouldn't say there was anything worse in that film than in Stone's NBK (which I actually feel is more violent than DR in many respects..)....
