January 4, 200718 yr Author The Devils Rejects arrived today but House Of... didn't, so I'll wait and watch that first.
January 4, 200718 yr Well, back in the day, the Hammer Horror films were accused of 'over-stepping the mark' and being 'gory' as well, so it's all down to perception innit..? "The Exorcist" was banned for years from video in the UK, stuff like "Night of the Living Dead", "Texas Chainsaw Massacre", "Evil Dead", "Natural Born Killers", etc were accused of being 'sick' and 'depraved' as well.. One critic called "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" a "sick little piece of c**p" back in the 70s and I think now we look back at that and say how silly it was for anyone to say that... So, I reckon in 20 years time or so, "Devil's Rejects" isn't gonna seem quite so hard-core.... I dont really see anywhere in the film that oversteps the mark to be honest mate, I wouldn't say there was anything worse in that film than in Stone's NBK (which I actually feel is more violent than DR in many respects..).... Well I havent seen Stone's NBK so I can't really comment about that film, but I agree with you that in 20 years time Devil's Rejects probably won't be seen in the same way. Many of the banned 70s and 80s films such as Texas Chainsaw Massacre arent nearly as violent compared to some of the more modern films of today like Hostel for instance. However, re: Devil's Rejects. I just didnt like some of the pornographic/sex scenes and the explicit language.
January 4, 200718 yr However, re: Devil's Rejects. I just didnt like some of the pornographic/sex scenes and the explicit language. Sex?? I don't really remember their being any 'sex' as such. Sure, there's a pretty nasty and unpleasant scene where Otis puts his gun down a woman's panties, but I wouldn't call it 'pornographic', and I wouldn't say it oversteps things either, I feel that they're showing just how deeply horrible and cruel Otis' character actually is... You're not really meant to like any of these deeply dysfunctional people... As for the explicit language, well, name me one film made for adults that doesn't make use of explicit language... You'll have to forgive me for being a bit defensive about this, but I always get a little peed off when people go around using words like 'sick' or 'depraved' when describing a film, it always puts me in mind of these sensationalist Tabloid headlines of the 80s and 90s, and the bad old days of the "Video Nasty" and "Child's Play 3" hysteria. Frankly I'm bloody sick of us Horror film fans being vilified simply for our taste for a bit of 'adult-oriented' narratives... I think the whole point of "Devil's Rejects" is that Rob Zombie wanted to distance himself as much as he could away from the 'Teen Horror' infesting the genre, and tried to come up with something which was totally extreme and much more in the spirit of the films of the 70s which totally re-drew the Horror map.. Also, I reckon he'd been watching a few Miike Takashi fims as well and incorporated some of his extreme elements as well...
January 5, 200718 yr childs play 3????? i wouldent even give that a pg rating!!!!!! it wernt as good as number two, but it was still brilliant, although it lacked all the classic death scenes of one and two.
January 5, 200718 yr Author p.s: how old is rob zombie??? i always imagined as being about 36?? Born in 1965 accordng to wikipedia.
January 5, 200718 yr 42?? he dont look it........ i love childs play two. its got some classic lines such as "Joanne" (Said by Phill) and "Andy" (Said by Joanne)

January 6, 200718 yr childs play 3????? i wouldent even give that a pg rating!!!!!! The whole thing surrounding "Child's Play 3" erupted because of the death of James Bulger (the two year old who was killed by two 10-year old boys in Liverpool..). Some idiot of a Judge tried to make out that there was some esoteric link between "Child's Play 3" and the murder, even though no actual evidence had been brought by the Prosecution that ANY film played a part in the murder... The Tabloid press in one of their ludicrous, periodical fits of morality, set about on a public crusade (even going so far as to practically link the enjoyment of Horror Films to PAEDOPHILIA!!!!! <_< ), with the backing of several band-wagon jumping MPs looking for a bit of publicity, and actually managed to get an amendment regarding Video recordings into the Criminal Justice Act....
January 6, 200718 yr yeah, but the film itself cant really be put in the horror genre, its more slasher although theres only about 3 deaths in it. so when did these boys kill someone???
January 6, 200718 yr Author It's stupid trying to ban Child's Play 3, they watched over 170 horror films before the age of 10 according to one of my old teachers. Why pick out that one film?

To be honest, I dont really know.... Horror films dont play any part in whether a person commits murder or not, it's a totally nonsensical argument, I was watching stuff like "Alien", Hammer Horrors, Vincent Price/Boris Karloff films, "Psycho", etc on TV when I was aged about 8 or 12 and I managed not to kill anyone... Mind you, I actually had parents who lived up to their responsibilities as parents and weren't a pair of drunken fukkin' Chavs..... <_<

Normal people don't watch a horror film then go and kill someone. There had to be someting serously wrong with them to start with. The parents must've known what they were watching, they probably didn't care.
