December 30, 200618 yr Awful images, and I think it´s a sad day, not for losing Saddam, but for having this type of images on our media and to know that a vast number of people in this planet still lives in stone ages. Maybe his fellow oriental people are more used with this type of stuff but for me it´s a shock and I think the ocidental world should never suport this type of punishment. But then again, the "land of freedom" that is USA also has death penalty in some states. Then there is the obvious fact that his death will indirectly cause the death of loads of inocent people in Iraq, and it´s worryng how people don´t seem to give a **** with that. We hear about deaths in the news so much we got used to think it´s normal.
December 30, 200618 yr oh PER-LEEZE...... tell that to the thousands of his own countrymen he murdered! tortured, experimented with chemical weapons on... how tf can you 'feel sorry' for that evil person? at least he died quickly... I shed no tears at him dying although I do feel that his death is going to make things a hell of a lot worse out there but also Hussein was also a pawn in the western game and was used by the west and only became our bogeyman when he was no longer convenient The West (Thatcher and Reagan and Mitterand) armed Hussein to the teeth, they refused to condemn the chemical weapons attacks on the kurds infact the chemical weapons were supplied by US so how can the west turn a blind eye when it is convenient and then cry shock horror when someone has outlived their use to us ? Britain and America and France turned a blind eye to Hussein's activities for 20 years and supplied him with weapons including chemical weapons throughout that time because he was convenient for us so Britain, America and France are culpable over what went on too The West installed Mugabe into Zimbabwe and deposed Ian Smith, the West supplied and still supplies weapons to Indonesia who's leader has probably killed as many people as Hussein and occupied a country (East Timor) the West sucks up to China which has a human rights record as bad as Hussein's so while Hussein was a bad man we created the monster while at the same time we have created other monsters to
December 30, 200618 yr thats untrue.... they didnt DELIBERATELY murder civilians, unlike saddam himself who did. What were they planning to do then when raining cluster bombs on residential areas of Baghdad from B52's ? Edited December 30, 200618 yr by Kimi Raikkonen
December 30, 200618 yr thats untrue.... they didnt DELIBERATELY murder civilians, unlike saddam himself who did. In a way Saddam Hussein was a form of population control He held together the 3 rival factions (Sunni's, Shia's, kurds) and while he did indeed rule with an iron fist he still kept the warring parties intact like Tito did in the former Yugoslavia, had Saddam not been leader many times more people would have died through the infighting between the 3 rival camps just as has been proven with the death toll in Yugoslavia since Tito died, without Hussein I would say 3 times as many Iraqi's would have died in the last 30 years than did under Hussein's reign The death toll since 2003 among the infighting of Shias/ Sunni's and Kurds is more than were killed in Hussein's reign among the civillian population according to a human rights organisation so just imagine how many millions would have died over the last 30 years given the death toll of the last 3 And many of the deaths were the fault of Bush Snr, he went on national tv and told the Shias and the kurds to uprise against Hussein and then when they needed his support Bush hung them out to dry and American helicopters stood by and watched while the Shias and kurds that were uprising were slaughtered by Iraqi troops I am not saying Hussein was a nice guy but he was a necessary evil for his country in the sense he kept all 3 factions under a tight leash
December 30, 200618 yr Not sure how to feel about this, on one hand he killed loads of people and got what he deserved, but on the other I don't really agree with the death penalty
December 30, 200618 yr The West (Thatcher and Reagan and Mitterand) armed Hussein to the teeth, they refused to condemn the chemical weapons attacks on the kurds infact the chemical weapons were supplied by US so how can the west turn a blind eye when it is convenient and then cry shock horror when someone has outlived their use to us ? Britain and America and France turned a blind eye to Hussein's activities for 20 years and supplied him with weapons including chemical weapons throughout that time because he was convenient for us so Britain, America and France are culpable over what went on too a-ha! so you admit thatcher was to blame!....lol.. but thats true, they should never have armed him and should never have turned a blind eye to the weapons useage... it was probably mark thatcher (one odious guy that) who did it...
December 30, 200618 yr What were they planning to do then when raining cluster bombs on residential areas of Baghdad from B52's ? they targeted areas thought to contain saddams troops as you well know!...them rats hid in residential areas deliberately.... the problem here is... were the residents deliberately hiding them? or were they hiding there without support?...

Yeah arming Hussein was an almighty **** up of Maggie's, while I am a fan of her's I admit she made some big mistakes such as this one
December 30, 200618 yr Let's hope that we can learn from what happened with Hussein and be more careful who we supply weapons to although clearly with Blair's supplying of missiles and planes to the likes of Indonesia and other unsavoury nations there will undoubtedly be future Saddam Hussein's created by the West
December 30, 200618 yr they targeted areas thought to contain saddams troops as you well know!...them rats hid in residential areas deliberately.... the problem here is... were the residents deliberately hiding them? or were they hiding there without support?... The war was illegal in the first place though Rob, so it matters not, without the resolution, it's Terrorism, Murder, just because it's a State that's doing it instead of a paramilitary or guerilla group it makes no difference.. Bush and Blair are War Criminals and International Terrorists as much as Bin Laden, Al Zarqawi and those blokes who blew themselves up in London on July 7th, please wake up to the fact.... I suppose you'll be saying next that it was perfectly okay for the Luftwaffe to bomb the c**p out of Industrial towns and cities just because they had factories that were vital to the war effort, or indeed the Fire-bombing of Dresden.... sorry mate, when politicians and military commanders know damn fine that significant civilian deaths can result from their actions and then proceed anyway, then it is premeditated murder as far as I'm concerned and it should be treated as such.. Hussein got his just desserts, time for the rest of the murdering b/astards to swing on a rope as well....

Our so-called 'accountable Govt' turning a blind eye to fraud and various other criminal activities under the dubious caveat of the "national interest" and actually going as far to interfering in an active Serious Fraud Office investigation!!!!! Is it just me or is that even MORE crooked than anything during the Thatcher era....? <_<

We hear about deaths in the news so much we got used to think it´s normal. Is it any more awful than the State executions that go on in US States though....? I dont think so.. Dont make the mistake that we in the West are somehow more 'civilised' when it comes to how we handle crime and punishment, especially in American Penal Institutions... State prisons in the US have horrifying, totally dehumanising regimes (during Hurricane Katrina for example, the Governor of the Louisiana State Prison refused to evacuate the prisoners and many drowned as a result of his actions...), also look at Camp X-ray/Guantanamo Bay... Hardly a shining example of "Western Civilised Behaviour"....
December 31, 200618 yr I'm not a supporter of the death penalty but I'm afraid I ain't going to be shedding any tears for the passing of Saddam. And for those who say he didn't get a fair trial, well at least he got a trial. Which is more than any of his political opponents ever got from him and his band of thugs. Oh and I'd love to think Western Governments would learn a lesson from this debacle and choose their allies more carefully. After all, Saddam was seen as the good guy in the 80s against the nasty Iranians. As of course were the Taliban against the nasty Ruskies. We do indeed reap what we sow. <_<

Absolutely correct and something EVERYONE show know. We CREATED every problem we have now and there's no doubt the people we support now will be "enemies" in the future. What's worse, it doesn't even take a generation anymore - we kiss someone's ass diplomatically and a mere 10 years later we're bombing the **** out of them. It's a wonder the US and UK have any allies left.
December 31, 200618 yr If it wasn't a clear alias Jakey I may respect it. :( Alas you were right :o Oh I was BLIND :(
