Doctors??? Working Title romcoms??? etc
December 30, 200618 yr Well, when was the last time you saw a British film that could compare to the likes of "Get Carter", "Long Good Friday", "Performance", "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover", "Withnail and I" or, more recently, "Trainspotting" or "Shallow Grave"..... "Red Road" was a very respectable British film, but it was hardly what you would call 'mainstream'....
December 30, 200618 yr Author Well, when was the last time you saw a British film that could compare to the likes of "Get Carter", "Long Good Friday", "Performance", "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover", "Withnail and I" or, more recently, "Trainspotting" or "Shallow Grave"..... "Red Road" was a very respectable British film, but it was hardly what you would call 'mainstream'.... sorry mate, suppose to be about Best British COMEDY film. as think we did all the hard hitting stuff when red road came out. rushing around trying to do 96 things at once as usual.
December 30, 200618 yr Ooops.... Well, "Withnail and I" can certainly be classed as Comedy, so..... And "Life of Brian", "Holy Grail", etc.... Hand Made films pisses all over Working Title.....
December 30, 200618 yr I went to see It's a Boy Girl Thing on Friday, it was actually very good, alot like Freaky Friday though
December 30, 200618 yr quite liked the boulting brothers works, plus peter sellars stuff them 50's early 60's films were good... as well as 'life of brian'
December 30, 200618 yr I'll attempt a quick Top10 (I'm not a big fan of all things America.... period. So I've seen more than an average amount of British movies....compared to awful US blockbusters...) 1. Life Of Brian 2. Withnail and I 3. Dr Strangelove 4. Carry On Nurse 5. Shaun Of The Dead 6. Ladykillers 7. Monty Python & The Holy Grail 8. The Italian Job 9. A Fish Called Wanda 10. East Is East 5 British comedies to flee from..... 5. Wimbledon 4. Sex Lives Of The Potato Men 3. Carry On Columbus 2. Guest House Paradiso 1. Confessions Of A Window Cleaner/Driving Instructor/Holiday Camp
December 30, 200618 yr Carry On Screaming for me - superb. Closely followed by Rita, Sue and Bob Too - common, trashy - but brilliant. Life of Brian, for me as well... and I think I maybe be the only person who loved Clockwise, too. Withnail and I, of course - classic. Beautiful Thing was pretty funny.... Steptoe and Son Ride Again. And, I hang my head in shame, Holiday On the Buses still makes me laugh.
December 30, 200618 yr And, I hang my head in shame, Holiday On the Buses still makes me laugh. Same. I liked Guest House Paradiso, had some funny bits.
December 31, 200618 yr Author Carry On Screaming for me - superb. Closely followed by Rita, Sue and Bob Too - common, trashy - but brilliant. Carry On Screaming: i think thats the one thats always rated the best of all the 30 Carry On films.
December 31, 200618 yr Carry On Screaming: i think thats the one thats always rated the best of all the 30 Carry On films. i think it IS the best carry on film... (thats F I L M ) lol.. as theres more too it then just smut, and its not as dated as the other ones.
December 31, 200618 yr Some of the Carry On films are still good to watch now. I like the camping one, the hospital ones and where they go on holiday to spain best. Can't remember the names of them though...
January 1, 200718 yr i think it IS the best carry on film... (thats F I L M ) lol.. as theres more too it then just smut, and its not as dated as the other ones. Good point, no one refers to "Carry On Movies", do they...? They are so quintessentially British.... "Carry On Screaming" is my fave too, the older, black and white ones are excellent as well... By the time you get into the 70s though, it really starts to go downhill as far as "Carry On" is concerned.... And of course how can one forget those wonderful Ealing Comedies....? The Ladykillers, Lavender Hill Mob, Kind Hearts and Coronets... All with the quite marvellous Alec Guinness, a truly GREAT actor... Hugh Grant???? Fukk off....
January 1, 200718 yr We watched Carry On Matron today, where the man has to pretend to be a nurse. It's still so funny. Edited January 1, 200718 yr by x-The_Royston_Poisoner-x
January 1, 200718 yr Author Good point, no one refers to "Carry On Movies", do they...? it 2007!! ffs!!! will you all be still going on about that rather than the actual flicks by 08? well i suppose the BBC weather message board must have no news on it at the moment!!! Hugh Grant???? Fukk off.... well except when Russell Crowe is trying to be a Brit!!!
January 6, 200718 yr i must say... i saw 'shaun of the dead' the other day and thought it was total c**p!.... it just left me cold wishing the end would come...
