I wouldn't really call The Spice Girls a "band" as such, but I understand why they've been included.

It's gotta be between The Rolling Stones or The Beatles.

i voted Spice Girls, although Queen i think are the best band of all time.

because i grew up listening to them and they were my fave band at the time,

plus i didnt think anyone woulda voted for them,

how wrong i was.. ^_^

I would have voted for the following Top5 out of the 15 available.

1. The Beatles

2. Led Zeppelin

3. Rolling Stones

4. Pink Floyd

5. The Smiths

I'm surprised (and disappointed) that Spice Girls, Status Quo & UB40 made the Top15, while the Kinks, Radiohead, Blur & Duran Duran should have done better.

As for Queen being #1, I'm very disappointed with the British public.

i agree..... queen ffs....

the spice girls just arnt in the same league, shifting units doesnt equate to talent. they shouldnt be on the list, far greater bands arnt recognised here and a buch of pop puppets being included is an insult to real bands who have musical ability, talent, influencial..

It's really quite insulting to inclued the likes of Spice Girls in this poll to be honest, what really is their contribution to music as such, they were manufactured by Simon Fuller, didn't write any music or play any instruments... And no, it aint because they're female, I'd discount Take That or any of the other Boybands for similar reasons... If we're talking about "Greatest Ever Bands", then the actual quality of the music and how the band themselves pushed musical boundaries should be the things that are paramount, not how many units were shifted...

Queen??? FFS, you gotta be joking, I'd put them way down the list....

Just for the heck of it, here's what mine would've been

1. The Beatles (doesn't matter what you think of the music, their place in cultural history is undeniable...)

2.= Led Zeppelin

2.= Pink Floyd

2.= Black Sabbath

5. The Smiths

6. Joy Division/New Order

7. Radiohead

8. The Cure

9. Echo and the Bunnymen

10.= The Clash

10.=Siouxsie and the Banshees

The Smiths by a furlong...Morrissey and Marr are Britain's greatest ever songwriting partnership, only rivalled by Difford/Tilbrook and the XTC lads.

The Beatles wrote some great pop songs - but they never showed the lyrical panache and wit that Moz and Marr did - ever.

im not so sure about that m8, and lets not forget 20 years of development does give the smiths etc the oportunity to further the writing skills the beatles pioneered.

id add the kinks.... undoubtedly one of the all time greats

Sales and fame wise The Beatles, but to my personal taste, Take That ^_^
The Rolling Stones

Ohhhhh

Didn't know it was for british.. Make a poll for irish greatest band.

Would've thought the title "Britain's Greatest Ever Band" just may have given it away..... -_-

Westlife wouldn't win an Irish poll in any case, for a start - MANUFACTURED PIECE OF SH!T, not a real band.... And U2 would win by a fukkin' landslide..... Probably with Snow Patrol, Clannad, My Bloody Valentine being in the running as well....

Oh I agree alright, Morrissey and Marr were streets ahead of Lennon/McCartney in the songwriting department, IMO, but in the sense of Cultural impact, The Beatles basically began it all, so they should get credit for that, even the likes of Zep and Sab would defer to The Beatles, even though I personally rate their music far higher....

I've just realised that the Pet Shop Boys & Joy Division/New Order are absent from the top15 as well.

Still last year they did the poll for Britain's Greatest Solo Artist and the results were much worse:

The Great British Public voted (beginning of 2006):

1st Robbie Williams

2. Cliff Richard

3. John Lennon

4. David Bowie (who should have won by a mile IMHO)

5. Will Young

6. Elton John

7. George Michael

8. Kate Bush (the only female in the top10)

9. Paul McCartney

10. Morrissey

Cliff Richard #2? FFS :rofl:

As much as I love Robbie, he should'nt be above quite a few of those, same goes for Will Young. IMO.

These polls are always quite strage and are usually voted for by Radio 2 I think. -_-

Even if this was of the best bands in the world/UK/Ireland whatever, Westlife wouldn't be on the list...

I reckon even Robbie was probably embarrassed by that one himself. McCartney's solo career was ropey as fukk as well.... Bowie/Morrissey/Kate Bush Top 3 in my book, with perhaps a place for the likes of P J Harvey lower down the list. Will Young(???) has absolutely NO place on that list at all.... Is it just total braindead idiots who vote in these things or what....? -_-
