Shame as I do enjoy her.

4. So emotional

I love this one! In the Whitney version. Some things you don’t touch if you ask me. Not a good rendition of this classic song. Claire remains the voice of Steps for me but her belting seems out of place so a 2/10 sadly…

5. I surrender

Another one that sounds like a cheap version..Claire doesn’t add anything to this song and the production sounds like a cheap karaoke song. Not that bad as the previous one so I’ll score it a 4/10.

And please, I’m not trying to diss Claire. I’m happy that she’s doing her own thing and has another top 10 solo album under her belt. I think she’s just capable of so much more so that’s my biggest frustration. Yes, MY frustration :claire:

I dont dislike the album it does have a few good covers but sometimes i just find covers albums cheap or an artist is struggling creatively to come up with new material, i thiink if Claire took some obsecure songs and covered them it might have been better as she could put her own stamp on the songs just like steps do when they cover unknown songs and songs that were not hits in the UK.
I don’t mind a cover album. Her choices are random imo and she doesn’t add anything new to it sadly :(

6. Summernight city

I don’t get this one? It’s cheesy (not in a good way) and the production sounds cheap..maybe Claire should’ve sung this one alone..2.5/10

6. This time I know it’s for real

This one is a bit better. It ‘suits’ Claire and the production isn’t cheap/all over the place. Maybe a disco inspired album could’ve worked better? 5/10

7. Never really trust a stranger

Mmm, the chorus gets on my nerves. In between it’s ok. Karaoke vibes so a 4/10

8. Gloria

Not bad, though Claire doesn’t add anything new for me. 5/10

9. Never knew love like this before

Not a fan of the original though Claire doesn’t murder it that much. Not bad and maybe a disco inspired album could’ve worked. 5/10

10. Love is a battlefield

Another one that I don’t mind. Again, miss Richards doesn’t give it her own twist. And I’m missing a bit of an ‘umph’ that the original has. The production on this one is also a bit ‘meh’ if you ask me. 4.5/10 for now.

11. Xanadu

Not bad, I do enjoy this one. Maybe because the original is already a classic that can’t be destroyed. Production is giving me ‘Steps between their debut and Steptacular era’ vibes which makes it a nostalgic trip as well. So, a 6/10.

12. Goodbye to love

This is hard, as I don’t enjoy the original as well. Not the worst on the album so a 4/10.

So, overall:

- The production. Some songs sound very dated if you ask me.

- The choices of the songs. Very random!

- Claire has a great voice but doesn’t add something new to the songs for me.

+ Claire doing her own thing and snatching a #2 album.

+ The girl can sing.

The only song that I return to from this is Never Knew Love Like This Before and that’s probably because I didn’t know the original beforehand.
Never trust a stranger still works really well for me, I have it mixed in on a playlist of mine and its sandwiched between Kim wilde you came and pet shop boys losing my mind and fits nicely for me
