Too true. -_-

17. David Bowie - 11.030m

That has got to be very wrong.

David Bowie had sold over 10 million albums in the UK by the end of 1983 (He was awarded a plaque for it in October 1983 by the (BPI) British Phonographic Industry!) and there is no way he has sold only 1 million albums since then in the last 23 years. His career total is over 140 million worldwide, so how is it possible for David Bowie to have sold only 11 million albums in the UK?

So far David Bowie has had 27 UK Top10 Albums including 8 #1 Albums, a further 10 Top 3 albums, and a further 6 Top 5 Albums.

Bowie's list of UK Top20 Albums:

Album Discography

1969 Space Oddity #17 UK

1970 The Man Who Sold the World #26 UK

1971 Hunky Dory #3 UK

1972 The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars #5 UK

1973 Aladdin Sane #1 UK (5 weeks)

1973 Pin Ups #1 UK (5 weeks)

1974 Diamond Dogs #1 UK (4 weeks)

1974 David Live #2 UK

1975 Young Americans #2 UK

1976 Station to Station #5 UK

1976 ChangesOneBowie #2 UK

1977 Low #2 UK

1977 "Heroes" #3 UK

1978 Stage #5 UK

1979 Lodger #4 UK

1980 Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps) #1 UK (2 weeks)

1980 Best of Bowie #3 UK

1983 Let's Dance #1 UK (3 weeks)

1983 Ziggy Stardust - The Motion Picture (Live 1973) #17 UK

1984 Tonight #1 UK (1 week)

1987 Never Let Me Down #6 UK

1989 Tin Machine #3 UK

1990 Changesbowie #1 UK (1 week)

1993 Black Tie White Noise #1 UK (1 week)

1993 The Singles Collection #9 UK

1995 Outside #8 UK

1997 Earthling #6 UK

1997 The Best of 1969/1974 #13 UK

1999 'hours...' #5 UK

2000 Bowie at the Beeb #7 UK

2002 Heathen #5 UK

2002 Best of Bowie #11 UK

2003 Reality #3 UK

By the end of 2005 David Bowie had spent 1006 weeks on the UK album chart. While in 2006 both 2002 (2CD) Best Of Bowie & 2005 (3CD) The Platinum Collection have continued to chart in the UK Top75 Albums.

Also in 2005 David Bowie's back catalogue sold 326,565 albums in the UK & that is without any new releases.

Personally I believe David Bowie's Fan site "Wonderworld" where they estimate his UK sales to be between 18 & 19 million albums which would put him ahead of Robbie.

Does anyone know how his DVD ' And Trough it All ' is selling - any numbers yet !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought it was strange myself.

But the BPI go by shipments so it would be alot higher than the actual sales, especially for someone like Bowie who have been around for so long. If you go here http://ukmix.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=40...highlight=bowie They have done a breakdown of his sales in the UK, which they believe to be between 12-15 million, so it is definatly higher than the 11 million. ^_^

US sales are estimated between 18-20 million. But according to The RIAA he has sold less then 10.5 as he does'nt feature on the list of best sellers. All very confusing. Perhaps the 140 million is singles included cause it seems very high. I have heard he has sold over 100 million records before.

Not on the BPI site yet. It has been certified 7x platinum in Austrailia already and is still #1 :o :yahoo:

I get the feeling it hasn't sold a ginormous amount in the UK. -_- I could be wrong but whenever I went into a music shop in the run up to Xmas they had rows and rows of TT Tour DVDs right at eye-level and a couple of Robbie DVDs in the bottom segement right at your feet.

Again of course virtually no promotion.

I agree, no promo at all.

It got to #1 though and is #6 this week after all these weeks. ^_^

DVD sales are very very low in the UK overall compared to other countries apperently. Live at Knebworth is the best selling music dvd of all time with over 350k sold. ^_^

I don't understand why. I absolutely love my concert DVDs.

I know

cd sales are huge over here. In Oz they are very low, well obviously due to to population being 3 times the amount in the UK. But music dvd's sell much much more there, especially Rob's.

I thought it was strange myself.

No - David Bowie has sold an estimated 140 million Albums = 60 Facts about David Bowie Check out fact number 22. The same fact about his Worldwide Album sales can be found on Bowie fansite Wonderworld.com & on his official Bowie.net site.

Personally I think most of the older acts in the UK Album sales list have had their sales underestimated.

Any idea how his latest DVD is selling

Nothing yet in the UK off the BPI but it was #1 and has been top 5 since it's release bar this week.

In Austrailia it is 5x platinum and is the 2nd best selling dvd of 2006

:o :o :o That's great!!!

It has sold pretty well here & also the Knebworth one still selling well - shops here sold out & it seems to be still doing well on Amazon, etc, .

I still cannot believe how little promotion Rudebox got - every other artist with an album out had it on TV every bloody five minutes - , there was just something about the whole thing to do with the release of the album - lots of effort put into obscure websites to promote the album - but I think that whoever Robbie's advisors are they must have forgotton that not everyone has a PC that they use for music & lots of people watch TV - that's where they should have concentrated more on with promotion - the TV that people are glued to - especially RW fans - look at their age profile . He was bloody let down BIGTIME. Will they ever learn - NO
