October 2, 2024Oct 2 Is predatory men going to gigs a thing / has it been a regular thing in the past? Is there a hypersensitivity around it? I've definitely been told of far too many instances of girls getting groped in the the pit and I've seen it first hand before but I've never actually witnessed it not get called out by the girl and dealt with by the crowd or security. That being said the level of that behaviour varies from scene to scene and has changed over time. The early 00s was the worst time for it in my experience and mainly on the 'Pop Punk and Emo scene' for some reason. One of the most offensive things about this is that it's a small venue, (which doesn't need the bad press) and exactly the sort of type of place where people will enter the venue alone but meet up with friends inside later. The classic I'll meet you at the bar/sound desk/stage left type of venue. The idea that ANYONE should be quizzed on their intentions because they're alone at a public entertainment event is the sort of thing that we should not tolerate. Unless they're wearing a backpack. If you take a backpack to a gig and don't leave it at the cloakroom you deserve all you get.
October 2, 2024Oct 2 seen it so many times, but for what i've seen it's drunk guys that are together with other friends not solo guys don't think it has anything to do with going solo guess it depends a lot on country and boundaries. In a gig in Spain there are no boundaries and if you're in the front rows everybody is like cheek to cheek with the neighbour, so there is contact wanted or not in Scandinavia you come within 1 meter distance from a gig at a gig and they're gonna call you out and tell you to not get so close. Love gigs in Iceland where there is like literally 1 meter distance between people :D
