It's a second week on top for The Beatles, who last did that in 1995 with a new track (Free As A Bird), and extends their run of number singles to 55 years since Hey Jude topped my very first chart, the week I discovered the UK top 30 radio show Pick Of The Pops! I've been forced to extend my chart to 100, I blame The Beatles, ABBA, and Pet Shop Boys, my holy trinity of worship pop perfection. And also the large number of great new records around.

Talking of pop perfection, Kylie takes Story to 3 for a 3rd top 3 of 2023 and 5 top 10's off the latest album, something she didn't manage with her first album in 1988, though she did get 2. Chappell Roan makes it 2 in a row with her new entry at 48, and Dario G returns to the chart after a gap of 9 years, Savour The The Miracle Of Life being a great comeback to give him an 8th chart entry since topping with Carnaval De Paris 25 years ago, and new in at 54.

Jungle chart their 4th and 5th tracks off their new album, Every Night at 56, complete with the usual great dance video troupe, and ditto Problemz at 91. They can cut it with live TV performances too. Pet Shop Boys debut at 72 with Radiophonic, taken from their 1999 album, Nightlife, while Stefanie Joosten covers Sparks 1980 minor hit, Tryouts For The Human Race, when they were deep in Giorgio Moroder synth mode, and Giorgio is back on the new track too. Which gives him a first hit since topping with Britney Spears, and other singles with Sia and Kylie, in 2015. That gives him a whopping 46 years chart span since From Here To Eternity became his first solo hit, and 51 years since Son Of My father got covered by Chicory Tip to gift synthpop to the world.

Dolly Parton grabs a 3rd chart entry of 2023, and has some pertinent lyrics about the state of the world right now on World On Fire, a strong new song from the 77-year-old, who still has a way with lyrics and melody to create something powerful. Bananarama make it 42 years of charting, at 79, just ahead of a revamp of Class Of 8's Kim Wilde classic Cambodia. OMD, Tom Speight, Duran Duran, Noel Gallagher and Gustaph (he of Belgian Eurovision entry) all return for more 2023 chart entries, while Sheryl Crow is back after a 3-year gap to extend her run to nearly 30 years.

Which Beatles song spent the least number weeks on the top of your chart ?

Hi there John!

Nice to see "Now and Then" at the top, "Knowing Me Knowing You" reaching the top 10, the big gains for "Chiquitita" and "SOS" and the debut for "Overdrive".

Great chart!

Take care.

Hey John,

Love 9 out of 10 tracks of the Top 10 :yahoo: .

Only TDCC is not my cup of tea :coffee: :D

Love off course all ABBA tracks

Idina Menzel/Nile Rodgers and OMD Top 20, Sugababes Top 30, Dolly/Miley and Army Of Lovers Top 40 :cheer:

Best new entries bubbling under : Dario G, Bananarama, Ofenbach/NJM and Stefanie Joosten/Giorgio Moroder

Love also the original version from "Tryouts For The Human Race" by The Sparks :w00t:

Hey John!

I'm not a fan of now and then unfortunately but you can't win em all.

Hold on to now is doing very well here. It's far too samey with the rest of the album though I think.

Story on the other hand is seriously impressive. Inswear if this doesn't become a single it very well may be the biggest missed opportunity on an album for a long time.

I'm glad bad idea right is continuing to do well for you. That's one that's still growing on me now. It's great.

Vampire has done so well here too. Hopefully that will continue.

Fab chart ^_^

Gustaph :o

Hi Alex, oh lots of them have had just the one week on top, but they've all been as oldies, and some have gone back to one years later to add to their total. The only Beatles song that had one week on top when it was new was Hey Jude in 1968 (my first ever chart), cos it was quickly knocked off the top by Those Were The Days :) But it topped my charts again in 1976, 1988, and again in the noughties I think :o

Hey Sven! :)

Thanks for the picks! I also like the original Sparks version of Tryouts but it never hit a high position in my chart as it got little radio airplay so I didnt get to hear it much! Doh!

cheers! B-)

Hey James! :)

I think Now & Then means more to older fans just so happy to have The Beatles back, so not surprised if it isn't everyone's cup of tea! :D I have flicked through the tracks on the Kylie album now and I came to the conclusion that a chunk of it it is mildly pleasant but not as memorable as the singles and the 2 I'm currently charting top 10 - so it may be I need to hear them a few times to catch some subtler touches! :o Story is the standout non-single, no question! Oops all 3 Olivia's dropping this week, but it is a very busy chart!

Thanks as ever for the comments  B-)
