Yes, they were thinking ahead by trying to reach the target with several overs to spare. It's probably going to be down to net run rate to decide which of England or Scotland go through.

Sophia Dunkley has been recalled to England's one-day international squad for the upcoming series against New Zealand.

Top-order batter Dunkley, 25, was left out of both white-ball squads for the series against Pakistan last month after a lean run of form.

But she has since excelled in domestic cricket, leading the run-scoring charts in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for South East Stars.

The right-hander has 293 runs in five innings, averaging 97.66 with the Stars third in the table.

The three-match ODI series against the White Ferns starts in Durham on 26 June and is followed by five T20s.

Afghanistan are through to the T20 World Cup Super 8s after beating Papua New Guinea by seven wickets in Trinidad, eliminating New Zealand in the process.

After bowling out Papua New Guinea for 95, Afghanistan were made to work early in the chase but Gulbadin Naib's unbeaten 49 got them over the line.

Gulbadin was the only batter to really find any rhythm on a tricky surface at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, hitting four fours and two sixes in his 36-ball knock.

The T20 World Cup's Florida-based matches continued to be blighted by bad weather as India's game with Canada was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

All three matches scheduled for Lauderhill have now fallen to the elements, with the ground suffering the effects of heavy rainfall over the last week.

Bangladesh have managed to get into the Super Eights.

The groups: -

Group 1, India, Australia, Afghanistan and Bangladesh

Group 2, USA, England, West Indies and South Africa.

England so close to going out, firstly with a possible rained off match, and then with Scotland so close to beating Australia. Maybe their name is on the trophy now.

India face England in the semi-final of the Men's T20 World Cup.

Australia are on the brink here. They need Bangladesh to win against Afghanistan in order to face South Africa in the other semi-final.

Afghanistan make the semi-finals after an extremely tense low scoring match against Bangladesh.

India look like the strongest team left but any of the four remaining countries could still win this.

England fast bowler Ollie Robinson was hit for 43 runs in the most expensive over in the history of the County Championship.

Sussex’s Robinson was struck for two sixes, six fours - three of which were off no-balls - and a single by Leicestershire's Louis Kimber in the fourth and final day of their Division Two match on Wednesday.

It is believed to be the most expensive over in all first-class cricket when there was no compliance from the bowler (i.e. bowling for a declaration).

Kimber's feat is comfortably the most runs scored by a batter in one over of English first-class cricket.

Surrey's Alex Tudor conceded 38 runs in an over to Lancashire's Andrew Flintoff in 1998 - a mark equalled earlier this week by Surrey’s Dan Lawrence off the bowling of England team-mate Shoaib Bashir.

Former England opener Jason Roy has signed for Hundred side Northern Superchargers as a replacement for banned seamer Brydon Carse.

Roy, 33, was unselected in the draft in March after spending three seasons with Oval Invincibles.

He could miss the beginning of this year's campaign, which begins on 23 July, due to his commitments with LA Knight Riders in Major League Cricket in the USA.

It's a shame his innings of 243 wasn't quite enough to win the match.

Edgbaston managed to get a draw very lucky indeed, our coach is rubbish.

South Africa have eliminated Afghanistan and are through to the Men's T20 World Cup final.

England Women have beaten New Zealand Women in their opening ODI yesterday.

Nottinghamshire fast bowler Dillon Pennington and Surrey wicketkeeper Jamie Smith have earned their first Test call-ups as part of England's squad to play West Indies next month.

Uncapped Surrey fast bowler Gus Atkinson, who was on the Test tour of India earlier this year but did not play, is also included.

Shoaib Bashir has been picked as England's spinner instead of Somerset team-mate Jack Leach.

All-rounder Chris Woakes is included in a Test squad for the first time since last summer's Ashes.

India won the World Cup. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have retired from T20 internationals. Both still available for Tests and ODIs.

Maia Bouchier has scored her maiden international century in another dominant ODI display against New Zealand. We have won the series.

Gloucestershire and Glamorgan played out an epic last-ball tie as Glamorgan came within one run of setting a new world-record chase of 593.

Wicketkeeper James Bracey took a stunning catch to dismiss Glamorgan’s last man Jamie McIlroy as Glamorgan were left 592 all out.

Sam Northeast made a marathon 187 and Marnus Labuschagne hit 119 to take Glamorgan close to victory in the County Championship Division Two match.

England will play Tests in Multan, Karachi and Rawalpindi on their three-match tour of Pakistan in October.

The first Test gets under way in Multan on 7 October, little more than a week after the home summer ends with the conclusion of the white-ball series against Australia.

England last played a Test series in Pakistan in 2022, when they became the first visiting team to secure a 3-0 series clean sweep.

That was England's first Test tour of Pakistan for 17 years, following an attack on the Sri Lanka team by gunmen in Lahore in 2009.
