May 1, 20241 yr Been ages since I played an album, so let's play the new CD, Nonetheless, and review: 4. NEW LONDON BOY Lush. Still got the knack for a melody that tugs at my heartstrings. Lovely chords. Then break for a pseudo-West End Girls rap. Back to the melodic lushness, and the lyrics are more observational young man in town tale, seemingly. 5. DANCING STAR Single 2, Rudolf Nuryev biographical, more historical new boy with talent in town, a proper late 80's sounding Pet Shop Boys single, Domino Dancing-rhythmed, does everything right, ticks the box, tops my personal chart, and links thematically in with New London Boy. The West End Girls and Domino Dancing references are rather blatant. Still, if you can't plagiarise yourself, who can you plagiarise?
May 3, 20241 yr Officially number 2 on over 22,000 sales and also debuts at number 13 here in Ireland.
June 4, 20241 yr Its not my fave on the album but i do like it and can see why its picked as a single although it probably doesnt matter what they release as single wise it will do nothing, hopefully it might help the album sell a few more copies.
June 6, 20241 yr Fair play to them doing a video for the single especially when they know it wont be a hit but it does help give the song an identity.
June 6, 20241 yr I really don't understand why acts like the PSB do videos for post-album singles in this day and age. Surely it's not financially viable? Even if it's a cheap video it's still going to cost a few thousand pounds at the very least. Hardcore fans are going to stream the song/album regardless (and buy a physical single if one is available), I'm not sure what purpose the video serves?
June 6, 20241 yr They've always been a very visual act so I think it's nice that they continue to do the videos and also release b-sides (which nobody else really does anymore). I doubt they make much profit from any aspect of releasing and promoting music, and that they make that on tour. Their tours always go on for years. A New Bohemia was the biggest grower on the album for me, I'd go as far to say I like it more than the first two singles. But still prefer Feel and The Schlager Hit Parade.
June 6, 20241 yr Oh yeah I think it's definitely nice for them to keep making videos, I'm just surprised that the record company still commission them. I also agree that it's great that they release B-sides too, I wish more people did that.
June 6, 20241 yr The Pet Shop Boys remain traditional in the way they release singles which we need more of.
June 19, 20241 yr Loneliness has really grown on me! I’m really looking forward to seeing them headline the Isle of Wight Festival on Saturday :D
June 19, 20241 yr Loneliness and dancing star are standout tracks from an otherwise relatively dull album. Their last 2-3 albums have been great but sadly this is not an album I will come back to much.
August 20, 2024Aug 20 Feel is the next single. CDs are out 27th September and the radio edit is out today as part of the full digital single with the usual B-sides/demos/remixes along with the video ds9tuIp-JrU Edited August 20, 2024Aug 20 by lewistgreen
August 21, 2024Aug 21 Nice to see them releasing another single plus going with physicals. Edited August 21, 2024Aug 21 by Padamic_Tension
August 21, 2024Aug 21 This is a great single, my favourite of all four released so far. Chris' German version of The Schlager Hit Parade is quite an amusing b-side too.
August 21, 2024Aug 21 Feel has got legs, I still havent got bored with hearing it such a subtle hook and harmony that sweeps in after keeping you waiting for it, pure class and the video is rather good and done with young upcoming talent behind and in front of the camera, not expensive established hire-ins. I've played the album to friends who mildly like Pet Shop Boys but don't search them out, and they seem to like the mellow mood of it throughout as a complete album as opposed to a series of banging potential singles. and just played Chris doing a German language karaoke version, Chris finally sings after 35 years shocker! Amusing :) Really needs a Xmas version, I will keep saying it till they do one for this December. Bonus B side is Everybody Will Dance, a bit of a Why Am I Dancing companion piece on one play, I like it.
September 25, 2024Sep 25 An expanded version of the album is coming on November 22nd just in time for Christmas sales, https://www.petshopboys.co.uk/news/2024-09-...xpanded-edition
