how is this in the chart??? it says platunum collection which is wmtv's cheapo re-issue product for back cat? does that mean Ireland can have any albums whatever dealer price or does it have a lower one than in the UK or is the album craftidy released at full price over there??? whats the rules

Chart Track Commentary

 

Linkin Park debut at No1 on the Album Chart this week with their third studio album ‘Minutes To Midnight’, four years after their previous studio album ‘Meteora’ performed a similar feat in March 2003. Their first album ‘Hybrid Theory’ and their more recent collaboration with Jay-Z ‘Collision Course’ both peaked at No6 in 2001 and 2005 respectively.

Arctic Monkeys slip to No2 after three weeks at the top with ‘Favourite Worst Nightmare’, ahead of Cascada (down one place to No3) and Manic Street Preachers (non-movers at No4). Rufus Wainwright has the next new entry at No9 with ‘Release the Stars’, his fifth album and the first to make the Irish Top 10 –‘Want Two’ was his only other chart album, reaching No34 in March 2005.

Akon climbs the Singles Chart for a fourth consecutive week, up two places from No3 to claim this weeks’s No1. He maintains an impressive hit-rate since the release of his debut single ‘Locked Up’ two years ago: three No1’s from 6 releases. Snow Patrol climb from No20 to No2 with ‘Signal Fire’ (from the Spider-Man 3 soundtrack). It’s their sixth Top 30 single, and moves ahead of their previous best ‘Chasing Cars’ which peaked at No6 in January this year. Avril Lavigne falls from No1 to No3 with ‘Girlfriend’, ahead of Timbaland’s ‘Give It To Me’ at No4 and Beyoncé & Shakira’s ‘Beautiful Liar’ at No5. Rihanna (feat. Jay-Z) has this week’s highest new entry at No8 with downloads of ‘Umbrella’, ahead of physical release scheduled for 25th May.

..and in the brand new Irish Top 50 singles chart there are 2 Eurovision entries

On the download Top 20 singles chart Verka is new at 19.

 

The official album belatedly enters the compilation Top 30 at 22

 

But don't expect to see Dervish joining them at any stage

 

Given the decline in the sale of physical singles, both in Ireland and elsewhere, it has been decided not to make the physical CD single of "They Can't Stop The Spring" by Dervish available in the shops. Instead RTÉ are issuing a limited number of promotional singles and these will be available from RTÉ and for the accredited journalists who made it to Helsinki.

 

This isn't the first time that the Irish entry has not been released commercially, in 2001 Gary O'Shaughnessy's "Without Your Love" was only ever released a a limited edition promotional single, and these are quite rare and collectors' items for Eurovision fans.

 

The difference between now and 2007 is that the single of this year's Irish entry will also be available for download from RTE's website and you can find the song here. http://www.rte.ie/tv/eurovision/mp3podcast.html Unfortunately, because the song is available for download without charge it is ineligible for the Irish Top 40 chart. The download and promotional versions are identical, but are different from the version used on the Eurovision preview video. This version will also be featuring on Dervish's new album due to be released on May 4th.

Chart Track Commentary

 

The rapid turnover at the top of the Singles Chart continues this week, as Rihanna has the fifth different chart-topper in as many weeks with ‘Umbrella’ (feat Jay-Z), up from No8. With the CD scheduled for release today (25th May), Rihanna has the distinction of becoming only the second artist to top the Irish chart on downloads alone, following 21 Demands ‘Just A Minute’ back in March. ‘Umbrella’ is her sixth Top 20 hit from six releases in Ireland, but the first to make it to No1: ‘Pon De Replay’ and ‘Unfaithful’ both stalled at No2.

Akon’s ‘Don’t Matter’ slips to No2 after a week on top, ahead of Snow Patrol, Avril Lavigne and Timbaland who all suffer a similar fate, dropping one place to make way for Rihanna. Stellarsound and Paula Flynn have this week’s highest new entry at No11 with a remake of David Bowie’s ‘Let’s Dance’, popularised by Ballygowan’s TV ad.

Linkin Park hold for a second week at No1 on the Album Chart with ‘Minutes To Midnight’, ahead of Cascada’s ‘Everytime We Touch’ at No2 and this week’s highest new entry at No3: Maroon 5’s second studio album ‘It Won’t Be Soon Before Long’. Their debut album ‘Songs About Jane’ in contrast took 18 weeks to climb the chart after debuting at No26 in April 2004: they went on to spend three weeks at No1 and the album was the fourth best-seller of 2004 in Ireland.

Suppose in Ireland these would be considered as kosher

Chart Track Commentary

 

A decade after his untimely death on 29th May 1997, Jeff Buckley’s posthumous collection ‘So Real’ debuts at No1 on this week’s Album Chart. His first album ‘Grace’ never climbed higher than No14 but the follow-up ‘Sketches For My Sweetheart The Drunk’, which was released after his death, debuted and peaked at No2 in May 1998. ‘So Real’ is the first compilation album to top this chart since U2’s ‘U218 Singles’ in the first week of January this year – every other chart-topper since then has comprised original new studio material.

Linkin Park slip to No2 after two weeks at No1, ahead of Cascada, Maroon 5 and Arctic Monkeys who all drop one place. The next new entry in this week’s chart is at No20 for Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova’s soundtrack to John Carney’s ‘Once’, in which they both star as well as perform. Gym Class Heroes ‘Cupid’s Chokehold’ renews its steady ascent of the chart after stalling at No6 last week, climbing to No3 five weeks after the No28 debut. ‘Cupid’s Chokehold’ samples Supertramp’s ‘Breakfast in America’ – and this week charts three places higher than the original which peaked at No6 in July 1979

Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Live In Dublin’ leads a trio of new entries at the top of the Album Chart this week, improving on the No2 debut for last year’s ‘We Shall Overcome’ and matching the No1 debut for ‘Devils & Dust’ in April 2005.

Against such strong competition Damien Dempsey has to make do with the runners up spot for his fifth album ‘To Hell Or Barbados’ - the only one of his previous albums to debut more strongly was ‘Shots’ which spent a week on top in March 2005. Finally Rihanna completes the trio with ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ at No3, a personal best on this chart, ahead of the No6 peak for ‘A Girl Like Me’ a year ago.

 

There’s no change in the upper echelons of the Singles Chart this week, with Rihanna (feat. Jay-Z) taking a third week at No1 with ‘Umbrella’, followed by Akon ‘Don’t Matter’ at No2 and Gym Class Heroes ‘Cupid’s Chokehold’ at No3. Hellogoodbye climb for a fifth consecutive week, now reaching No4 with ‘Here (In Your Arms)’, up from No7. In a very quiet week for new releases, there are only two new entries at the foot of the Top 30: Calvin Harris at No29 with ‘The Girls’ – his follow-up to ‘Acceptable in the 80s’ which peaked at No30 eight weeks ago, and Kelly Rowland (feat. Eve) at No30 with ‘Like This’.

Chart Track Commentary

 

Nearly 20 years after the formation of the supergroup and 10 years since this material was last available, The Traveling Wilburys debut strongly at No1 on this week’s Album Chart with their eponymous album/DVD collection - the second fastest-selling album of the year so far, behind Arctic Monkeys ‘Favourite Worst Nightmare’.

Rihanna misses out on the Singles/Albums Chart double, climbing from No3 to No2 with ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’, ahead of the next new entry ‘The Police’, a double-CD hits collection at No3. Bruce Springsteen drops from No1 to No4 with ‘Live In Dublin’, followed by two further new entries: Bon Jovi ‘Lost Highway’ at No5 and Queens Of The Stone Age ‘Era Vulgaris’ at No6. ‘Lost Highway’ is Bon Jovi’s tenth studio album and it debuts higher than their previous album ‘Have A Nice Day’ which came in at No9 in September 2005. For QOTSA, ‘Era Vulgaris’ is their fifth album and the third to debut in the Top20, following ‘Songs for the Deaf’ (No11 in 2002) and ‘Lullabies To Paralyze’ (No2 in 2005).

 

Rihanna and Jay-Z enjoy a fourth week at No1 on the Singles Chart with ‘Umbrella’, still way ahead of the chasing pack which is lead by Hellogoodbye – up from No4 to No2 with ‘Here (In Your Arms)’. Three songs climb into the Top 10 on the strength of a physical release this week: Stellarsound & Paula Flynn ‘Let’s Dance’ at No5, Enrique Iglesias ‘Do You Know? (The Ping Pong Song)’ at No6 and Kelly Rowland (feat. Eve) ‘Like This’ at No9. Kelly Clarkson has this week’s highest new entry at No13 with her seventh single in four years ‘Never Again’: all seven have made the Top 20 in Ireland, but none have reached higher than No4. The only other new entry in the Top 20 comes from Dublin 4-piece the Coronas, new at No18 with their second single ‘The Talk’, improving on the No22 peak for ‘Decision Time’ back in February.

Chart Track Commentary

 

The Traveling Wilburys have a second week at No1 on the Album Chart, holding on to a comfortable lead over fellow-Fathers Day-favourites The Police at No2, up from No3 last week.

 

This week’s highest new entry comes in at No5 for the White Stripes with their sixth album ‘Icky Thump’: their three early albums never charted in Ireland, but their breakthrough fourth album ‘Elephant’ debuted and peaked at No3 in 2003 and their fifth album ‘Get Behind Me Satan’ performed a similar feat in 2005. Bell X1 debut one place behind at No6 with their independently-released ‘Tour De Flock – Live At The Point’, their fourth Top 30 album in Ireland and second best behind ‘Flock’ which came in at No1 in October 2005.

 

Rihanna and Jay-Z take a fifth week at No1 on the Singles Chart with ‘Umbrella’, leading a Top 3 unchanged from last week, with Hellogoodbye ‘Here (In Your Arms)’ at No2 and Akon ‘Don’t Matter’ at No3. Enrique Iglesias continues to climb with ‘Do You Know?’, up from No6 to No4, one place ahead of Gym Class Heroes ‘Cupid’s Chokehold’ which slips from No4 to No5. With the growing influence of downloads on the chart, high new entries in the Top 40 are becoming increasingly rare – and this week is no exception: there are no new entries in the Top 10 for a fifth consecutive week. Fergie has this week’s highest Top 40 debut at No14 with download-only ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’, just ahead of Chemical Brothers ‘Do It Again’ new at No16 – their eleventh Irish Top 30 single over a period of eleven years.

Chart Track Commentary

 

Rihanna and Jay-Z make it six weeks in a row at No1 on the Singles Chart with ‘Umbrella’, which is now the second-best selling single of the year so far in Ireland behind Mika’s ‘Grace Kelly’.

 

Enrique Iglesias continues to climb, up from No4 to No2 with ‘Do You Know?’, his eighth Irish Top 20 single and his most successful since 2002 when ‘Escape’ reached No2 and ‘Hero’ spent 2 weeks at No1. The highest new entry in this week’s Top 40 is at No12 for Gwen Stefani’s ‘4 In the Morning’, the third hit single from her second solo album ‘The Sweet Escape’. The only other new entry in this week’s Top 20 comes at No14 for Journey with ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ – a hit for them 25 years ago and now revived on downloads after featuring in the closing scene of The Sopranos.

 

The Traveling Wilburys take a third week at No1 on the Album Chart, fending off a strong challenge from Rihanna’s ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’, up from No3 to No2 and less than 100 sales behind the top spot. Kelly Clarkson has this week’s highest new entry at No4 with her third album ‘My December’. Her first album ‘Thankful’ never made it higher than No46, but her second album ‘Breakaway’ climbed all the way to the top after debuting at No21 in July 2005. Editors have the next new entry at No7 with ‘An End Has A Start’, the follow-up to their debut ‘The Back Room’ which, despite critical acclaim and steady sales, has yet to make the Top 20.
