Meanwhile Garth Brooks holds steady at No2 for a third week with ‘The Ultimate Hits’, selling enough copies each week to make it to No1 in almost any other week of the year. Kylie Minogue has this week’s highest new entry at No14 with her tenth studio album ‘X’, her first since ‘Body Language’ which debuted and peaked at No19 in November 2003. Despite losing the Album Chart crown, Leona Lewis takes an impressive sixth week at No1 on the Singles Chart with ‘Bleeding Love’, ahead of Shayne Ward’s ‘Breathless’ which jumps three places from No5 to No2. Sean Kingston climbs from No19 to No7 with ‘My Love’, the follow-up to his No1 ‘Beautiful Girls’, and Girls Aloud continue their unbroken string of hits with ‘Call the Shots’ at No9 – their 17th Top 20 single in less than five years. Outside the Top 20 seasonal downloads are building in strength: Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ climbs from No34 to No22 and The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl’s ‘Fairytale Of New York’ re-enters the chart at No23. Shayne Ward and Timbaland hold steady for a third week at No2 and No3 respectively, ahead of The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl’s ‘Fairytale Of New York’, up from No8 to No4. Cascada has this week’s highest new entry at No6 with ‘What Hurts The Most’, her fifth Top 20 single in Ireland and the first from her second album ‘Perfect Day’. There are two very different high climbers on this week’s chart: Brendan Grace returns to the Top10 after a 26 year break, up to No7 from last week’s No22 with ‘The Safe Cross Code’ (‘Bottler On CB’ made it to No7 back in July 1981) and newcomer Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em climbs from No21 to No10 with his debut single ‘Crank That’, a No1 single in his native USA. With less that 500 sales separating the Top 3 Albums, Shayne Ward holds at No1 for a third week with ‘Breathless’, fending off the challenge from Leona Lewis ‘Spirit’ at No2 and Garth Brooks ‘The Ultimate Hits’ at No3. In the process he deposes last year’s winner Leona Lewis, who drops to No2 after an eight week reign at the top with ‘Bleeding Love’. With the 2005 X Factor winner Shayne Ward dropping to No4, the Pogues & Kirsty MacColl block an ‘X Factor Top 3’, with ‘Fairytale Of New York’ climbing from No4 to No3 in its 20th Anniversary year. For a second consecutive Christmas this is the most downloaded song in Ireland, but physical sales lag well behind the X Factor trio. This is the first Christmas when singles that are available only as downloads are eligible for the Singles Chart, and as a result there are seven classic seasonal downloads in this week’s Top 40, the highest of which is Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ at No10. Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’ fares well at No22, ahead of Shakin’ Stevens ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ at No27 and Tom Waits ‘Christmas Card From A Hooker In Minneapolis’ at No28 – the beneficiary of a Facebook campaign for the No1 spot. This year sees the closest ever battle for the Christmas No1 Album slot, with just over 2,000 sales separating the Top 5 Albums. Michael Bublé ends up at the head of the pack with his third studio album ‘Call Me Irresponsible’ – a great week to claim his first ever Irish No1. His two previous studio albums ‘Michael Bublé’ and ‘It’s Time’ peaked at No8 and No5 respectively, whereas ‘Call Me Irresponsible’ debuted at No4 on its initial release back in April, dropped back and then surged up the chart on the release of a ‘Special Tour Edition’ double pack in October. The four unlucky runners-up for this year’s Christmas No1 spot are Shayne Ward ‘Breathless’ at No2, Leona Lewis ‘Spirit’ at No3, Westlife ‘Back Home’ at No4 and finally Garth Brooks ‘The Ultimate Hits’ at No5.
