The Buzzjack Review by awardinary: NOW 12

Not my favourite, especially after how amazing NOW 11 was. But still has some great songs on it.

Had the cassette when it came out from the old TESCOs in Five Ways, Birmingham.

Wow! There's a lot of great stuff on NOW 120! Immediate thoughts: Tracks 1-7 being songs by the Pop Girls! Iconic! Brilliant! It's what we deserve! APT. is here! That follows "Gangam Style", "Gentle

It should be either 87 and 89 as we are due an 80s Yearbook, then 70s and back to 90s.

I think we might get 75 as the next 70s one as that will be coming up to 50 years.

I’d prefer an 80s one too but I’m working on the theory that for the last two years the immediate pre-Xmas one has been an 80s one. So I think they’ll leave 87 or 89 to November and try and get some stocking filler sales (if that’s still a thing).

I’m surprised that with James' appearance on extra 1993 that it’s with Sometimes instead of Laid. Even though I thought Laid was the bigger hit, Sometimes actually charted higher than Laid
Going through the clips on iTunes of Now That's What I Call 40 Years - Part Two. Clearly some mixes are different to those used on the original albums, e.g. the abrupt Eurovision ending on Gina G's Ooh Aah... Just A Little Bit, and the 7" Radio Mix of Spice Girls' Say You'll Be There which has more R&B style production and a longer sax break. Also, the album version of The Promise by Girls Aloud. I don't know if these are intentional choices or mistakes.

It's so odd about the Spice Girl one. They even use the mix in the advert!

The CD booklet does say something like "the lengths of the tracks might be different compared to the original NOW releases" Other than that, it's a good album to have playing in the car and even for parties.

Does anyone miss the 100 Hits series? I was never a fan because they just looked and felt lazy.

The album would've been so good if all the songs were car/roadtrip themed. So songs like "Mustang Sally", "Vroom Vroom", "Scream If You Wanna Go Faster", and "Jesus Take The Wheel" were included.

What would have you included?

Shame they scrapped it when it was doing well. If anything, they should scrap the vault and the re-issues. I’d rather have had the years as 100 hits instead of yearbooks

We DESERVED a '100 Hits Forgotten 00s' release

Totally! And NOW 100 Hits - 00s No. 1s.

I didn't mind the 100 Hits albums, they were value for money and I loved the Forgotten 80s and 90s editions. The 100 Hits Christmas one was funny as there was so much filler padding it out.

I did get the Car Songs one but it definitely wasn't a favourite. A real grab bag of songs that weren't sequenced very well, so felt like a playlist on shuffle.

TGS has gone back to the top of the compilation chart and Now Summer Party 2024 has outsold Now Yearbook 1993 this week. They should’ve released the former last week so both albums would’ve had turns at #1. I’d rather Now Yearbook 1993 outsold Now Summer Party 2024

These are the ones I'd love to see.I wonder if Kesha would be licensable since she's independent now.

I wonder if Kesha would be licensable since she's independent now.

Well RAYE is independent and she was licensable last year, so it's not out of the question, plus it would be quite some time since she last featured on Now 87 with Pitbull.

Fingers crossed. It's turning into my favourite song of the year so far.

RAYE didn’t appear on Now 118 because they didn’t want any r1xtra artists on the album. She did appear on Now 117 and with Now 119, I hope they include more r1xtra artists. Hence why Central Cee was absent from the album and Jorja Smith was absent from Now 115

Yeah the 100 Hits were great and the ones before NOW took them over!

Mabel’s Vitamins was playlisted by 1Xtra and is included on Now 118, so that (unsurprisingly) didn’t play a part in their decisions.

Yeah they don’t tend to include rap songs, but there isn’t going to be a blanket ban on anyone who could be playlisted by 1Xtra. 115 may not have included Jorja Smith, but it did have FLO and Ice Spice/Nicki Minaj.
