Posted March 24, 20241 yr https://www.cherryred.co.uk/gina-g-fresh-2cd-dvd-edititonReally happy about this release, fresh is one of my favourite albums and it's very underrated so it's good to see it getting some tlc. Will 100% be buying this.
March 24, 20241 yr Author Ya it's a pitty there isn't more extras but it's still enough for me to buy, it's such a shame everything went south for gina after the releas
March 25, 20241 yr Author Not sure about the whole album but 'Fresh' and 'Ti Amo' are 10/10 bops! Both are great but I loved all the singles and am huge ooh aah fan, she was so hard done at Eurovision coming 8th with it but thankfully it ended up a huge hit for her. Follow the light and higher than love are also both excellent album tracks.
March 25, 20241 yr For anyone doubting it, it’s a great album. Not a bad track on the album and the mixes on the singles were great. It’s worth buying even though new content is somewhat lacking.
March 25, 20241 yr Author I agree it's a solid album from start to finish and it was a pitty it didn't sell far more.
May 31, 20241 yr Author I can't wait for mine to arrive next week as I've loved this album since it's original release. I wonder will she ever release anything new again.
June 1, 20241 yr I can't wait for mine to arrive next week as I've loved this album since it's original release. :cheer: I remember that Fresh was only the third album I ever heard, after Celine Dion - Falling into You and Spice Girls - Spice. I had them all on cassette! I played Fresh a lot when it was new... I have a memory of playing it on my walkman, walking around the supermarket with my parents while they were shopping, and I was probably pretending that I was a popstar. I was only 9 at the time! It's a pretty strong pop/dance album. There's a couple of ballads on it which are quite incongruent although I have a soft spot for them. Outside of the singles I think Higher than Love is my favourite track. The front cover image on the new CD/Vinyl isn't particularly high quality, to say the least. Although it's not the worst I've ever seen for a reissue, it does come across as though the designer did the best that they could with the image they were given. Although I did look at my old CD and cassette and the image quality isn't great on them either! Which makes me wonder if the original picture was stylistically not a sharp/HD image. Who knows. There's lots of remixes on the new CD including many that were only on promo vinyl, but also some that were on her CD singles. I've not got around to hearing them all yet but I like the Soul Solution mixes of Ooh Aah... Just a Little Bit, they're house mixes. They were only on a USA 12" promo vinyl before this year! There's also an unreleased song... a ballad in the overblown emotional style that is typical of the 90s! It's ok, nice to hear, but I can understand why it wasn't included at the time. Anyway, I'm happy with my purchases and feeling very nostalgic today *.*
June 1, 20241 yr I decided to just get the CD boxset, but it's a nice package. I also would cite Higher Than Love as my favourite album track but the singles were all very solid. The videos could have done with a remaster and to be put on a Bluray though, the videos on the DVD are looking very poor quality these days. There's also no visuals on the first few seconds of Ooh Aah...Just A Little Bit, only a black screen. It's nice to have them all in one place along with the Eurovision performance though. June 2, 20241 yr Received my copy on Friday. I am disappointed they omitted the motiv8 radio edit of ohh ahh just a little bit and radio edits of some of the remixes. Aside from that, it’s nice to get a reissue of this!
June 3, 20241 yr Received my copy on Friday. I am disappointed they omitted the motiv8 radio edit of ohh ahh just a little bit and radio edits of some of the remixes. Aside from that, it’s nice to get a reissue of this! I did find it a bit curious that they substituted it for the Eurovision Version, rather than keep the Motiv8 Radio Edit and then have the Eurovision Version later on in the track list! A minor thing: It Doesn't Mean Goodbye doesn't have a few seconds of silence at the end of the track anymore on this new CD. The videos could have done with a remaster and to be put on a Bluray though, the videos on the DVD are looking very poor quality these days. There's also no visuals on the first few seconds of Ooh Aah...Just A Little Bit, only a black screen. I just watched the DVD, and the music video for Ooh Aah included on it has completely different scenes throughout it, compared to the most popular upload of the video on YouTube! :o cLdkvPsBQBc ^ This is the version on the DVD. This upload cuts off the intro, which maybe suggests that this version of the video always had a black screen as its opening? KiLw45oAuD0 ^ This version is the one with millions of views on YouTube. I'm not sure which one I knew... both seem to have scenes that are familiar to me. With there being two versions of the video, it's a shame that the DVD didn't include both. Maybe Cherry Red and 90/9 were unaware of there being two, or were only provided with the "black screen beginning" version. It amused me at the end of the Eurovision performance when it showed the audience and they're all dressed formally, in suit and tie/smart attire, and they were all seated, it just seemed so... polite! Plus the staging for Gina's performance was kind of quaint compared to what you can expect these days. A very different time!
June 3, 20241 yr Yes, the Eurovision performance looks so dated, Eurovision was always behind the times back then. When you compare it to her performances on Top of the Pops that looked modern and fresh (no pun intended!). I believe the computer with the keyboards was on stage because it was still the orchestra era and you had to show on stage where the backing track was coming from  I didn't realise you could freely distribute performances from Eurovision on commercial CD/DVD releases like that, I wonder if they had to get special permission from the EBU. Also, on the DVD menu, if you click the 'G' right at the top, there's a nice little Easter egg - her Eurovision 'postcard'.
June 4, 20241 yr Author At the time i always felt they got the staging wrong for ooh ahh at Eurovision although the staging in general that year wasnt my fave either in general as it was all quiet dull. My copy still hasnt arrived, probably delayed due to the bank holiday here as its showing i will have it tomorrow.
June 7, 20241 yr #26 - Official Vinyl Albums Chart #33 - Official Physical Albums Chart #35 - Official Albums Sales Chart It was always going to be a bit of a niche release (not a particularly huge album at the time, no promo this year and expensive prices), but it's nice to see it in some charts anyway! Maybe approaching 600 sales?
