Sounds like good progress is being made on Busted's new album - and they're working on it with ex-Bring Me The Horizon keyboardist + producer Jordan Fish!

As for Busted, we’ve just done a bunch of songs in LA. We’ve got a bunch of songs, we’re trying to make the best album possible. So every time I walk in the studio, we’re trying to beat something, we’re trying to go, “Right, what else can we do?”, “What does the album need?” I’m really focused on Charlie’s voice. It is f***ing unbelievable. So we’re trying to write songs that allow him to show that and not shy away from it. Busted songs are nursery rhyming in a way. I mean, we listened to Green Day and blink-182 and things like that when we were growing up so it’s very much influenced by that, but we’re trying to test Charlie really. We’re like, “Right, let’s hear you sing your f***ing tits off, let’s really go for it” and he’s stepping up to the plate. He is finding his feet as a frontman. When he sings, that is different from what me and James sing, like it just transcends genre, and considering he is known for being in Busted and Fightstar, which is like a screaming metal band, he’s actually got this other soulful side to him, which I think is not really heard enough. We are trying new things. It’s been 20 years, well, 24 years with me and James, and we found out what we all do very well. Right now we work better than we’ve ever worked in our lives and songs can come from different things. It’s a really interesting process right now. We had a bunch of song titles, and we started writing to a title, which is something we’ve not really done before. It was quite interesting to have a title and a concept.

We had also been working with a guy called Jordan Fish, who was in Bring Me the Horizon, and he’s just the most f***ing talented guy I’ve ever met in my life. He’s our little secret weapon. It’s been the most enjoyable writing experience I’ve ever had.

Edging closer to that 7th album :cheeseblock:

8th if you include their live album(9th if you include McBusted). Who would have thought 20 years ago there would be this many albums from them in 20 years time.

8th if you include their live album(9th if you include McBusted).

I don't think they count towards "our 7th album".

I don't think they count towards "our 7th album".

Yeah, although I wouldn't be surprised if they count 'Greatest Hits 2.0'.

Then they can release 'Our 7th Album' in 2029 or something.

Latest update in a new NME interview with Charlie:

We’ve had a Fightstar reunion and Busted anniversary shows this year. Are there plans for new music too?

“There are! Busted are working on new music at the moment and we’ve just been out in LA doing some stuff. It’s a slow process, but we want the next record that Busted put out to be an important one. We don’t want to rush it. There’s a bunch of songs written already, and hopefully they’ll come out next year, maybe even the year after.”

How is the new material sounding so far?

“Varied. I guess that’s the point, that we’re trying different things. When we came back in 2016 we released ‘Night Driver’, which I loved and it is still my favourite Busted album. That was very different because it was an ‘80s-inspired record which didn’t really sound like Busted, but I loved it. Then we did a record after that called ‘Half Way There’, which was more of what Busted would have sounded had I not left the band. It was great to do that as well, but now we want to try something different again – we just haven’t quite landed on what that is yet.

“When I say the demos are varied, I mean that there’s a lot of different soundscapes going on. We did a bunch of stuff with Jordan Fish who used to be in Bring Me The Horizon, which was cool, but obviously that was more in the rock arena realm. For now, we just don’t want to rush it. Everyone has to get behind it and feel like it’s the right next move.”

Will fans hear any of this new material during the 2025 live shows?

“Possibly… That sounds like I’m trying to hide something, but in reality it’s because I don’t really know yet! I think there could be songs that we play on the tour, but I don’t want to say that because if we don’t then people will be like ‘Well why did you say you would?’ We could, and I would hope that we will, play at least one new song.”

"next year, maybe even the year after" - I'm presuming he gave the interview in late 2024 which means that we could potentially not get a new Busted album until 2026! Which probably makes sense if they're still trying to figure out the sound of the album. Plus they'll want to get the McFly v Busted tour out of the way before thinking about releasing anything new.
