we've had quite a few no-names getting smash hits this year but will any of them having anything resembling a lasting career?

note: Tyla and Artemas seem like they should count but already have had another song scrape the top 40 each, likewise The Last Dinner Party, Jungle, Mitski and Chappell Roan seem to be fairly established names already even if they've only had one top 40 hit so far, so won't appear in the poll, I also won't count Perrie for obvious reasons

my bets are on Myles Smith, Tommy Richman and Cassö as the three most likely but would also not surprise me if no one on this list gets another substantial hit lol
Went with Myles Smith, Tommy Richman and Billy Gillies, the latter seem the two most likely to become bigger stars, the latter I'm sure can get another smash with radio/playlist support and a decent track.

I honestly can only see Casso, Djo and maybe Flo Milli getting another hit put of those.

Kenya Grace deserves though.

Almost all of these are fuelled by virality and the industry doesn't seem compelled to support many artists after their viral hit unless another hit goes viral, annoyingly. Myles Smith seems to be establishing a fanbase already though, and I think when Djo drops something new then he could at least score a one-week hit? The likes of cassö and Billy Gillies could easily manage it with the right song, and I could imagine Lay Bankz and Flo Milli at least featuring on something that goes top 40 at some stage, even if they don't ever have another hit of their own, so given a vote to all those I've mentioned in this post.

This is a great idea for a poll. I voted Myles Smith and Kenya Grace, I can't really see any of the others managing another hit (at least organically - pretty much anything can become a hit if fuelled by TikTok or similar). As has been said, Myles Smith seems to be building up a bit of a name for himself so he's definitely the most likely to score another hit I'd say. I don't know why but I also feel Kenya Grace has more to give.

It would be interesting to revisit this list this time next year and see which of the artists have another hit!

EDIT: In hindsight I probably also should have voted for Djo, he at least has being Steve from Stranger Things going for him, so he could easily have another hit if he times things right.

I don't think I've heard the majority of these one hit wonders in the first place, the last year or so I think I've really lost track of what's charting

Tommy Richman feels like he's got potential, not to be massive but get a few other middling hits. Cassö paired with the right artist has a chance, I think it's easier for DJs to break the one hit wonder curse than vocalists since they can quite easily latch on to a bigger name. Djo will probably do alright even without another charting hit but could probably manage one, and Flo Milli has been a known name in rap for a while so at the very least can probably get lucky as a featured artist.

Not to do a "Buzzjack explains Sabrina Carpenter" but I do think Shaboozey got lucky releasing something straight after his COWBOY CARTER feature, but if the country trend keeps going I guess I could see him getting a follow up. Happy to be proven wrong but no one here feels like a superstar in waiting, no shade intended.

Casio does have a single announced that will feature Jazzy and Headie One, not exactly two names that are guaranteed to make a song a hit but not complete unknowns either, so I think given a push could do reasonably well

The new Casso track is great, I could see that being a hit

really hope Kenya gets another hit, love her, but have to admit all her releases post-Strangers have been ok-ish but not amazing

but I'm sure she has it in her to release something on the same caliber as Strangers or better

well that Casso song went nowhere so he can probably be counted out now

Myles Smith’s new one doesn’t seem to be making a run for the top 40 either

Plenty to name, many already mentioned, here's a few others from 2024 with just one hit to their name so far;

Alex Warren

Badger

Djo

Flo Milli

Good Neighbours

JADE

Jungle

Lay Bankz

Nemo

Paul Russell

Songer

The Blessed Madonna

The Last Dinner Party

I suspect a few in this list will return with another Top 40 hit in time, but certainly not all of them.

Mentioned these in another thread, although The Blessed Madonna has two credited Top 40 hits after I was reminded.
