Did they separate The Fame/Monster as in the US The Fame Monster had its own separate EP so I wonder if they classified that as a separate album and didn’t combine the sales?

I listened to this in full last night for the first time in a while. So many of the album tracks still stand the test of time even now!

RIAA separates them for certification purposes (but the organization of each one's sales is still an unexplained mess), while Billboard combines their sales.

US sales of The Fame + TFM as of November 8, 2024: 14,154,410

It would go from 11x Platinum (The Fame 6xP and TFM 5xP, last updated in 2020) to 14x Platinum with the RIAA if her label wanted to combine their sales. Absolutely huge.

I wonder what the factors are for Billboard only ranking The Fame/Monster that low? I’m also convinced that 1989’s sales were combined and not split either so there seems to be some biasness going on there…

(I always knew Billboard hated Gaga, I’ve been a firm believer of that for years)

It's a scoring system that each position in the chart generates a number of points, with #1 being the position that gives the most points and #200 being the position that gives the fewest points. It does not represent actual sales.

Not to mention that each year has a different multiplier, which is stipulated based on how competitive the chart was that year. A very busy year guarantees a high score while a stagnant year guarantees a lower score.

Billboard writes:

Lady Gaga’s debut album first reached the top 10 on the weekly Billboard 200 in March 2009 and it went on to spend 396 weeks on the list during the first 25 years of the century. In fact, The Fame accounts for 48% of Gaga’s total 825 weeks spent on the chart in the first quarter of the century, across her 14 charted albums. The LP, which spun off two No. 1s on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Just Dance” (featuring Colby O’Donis) and “Poker Face,” spent time on the weekly Billboard 200 in every year from 2008 through 2012 and then from 2016 through 2024.
Its really holding fairly steady= for so long now and with her back in full swing again with new music its sure to boost the album that bit further.

Indeed! I’m intrigued on how she can do with it this year. It’s pretty much a mainstay in the UK top 100 permanently now (bar Christmas week). It almost went top 40 on Chromaticas release so I wonder if MAYHEMs release will push it back up there again but indefinitely see many more weeks top 75 this year further adding to its already gigantic sales / chart life.

Just think if we were ever to get a Glastonbury headline set as well how high it could go again!
