I get the impression it’ll be a hit that stalls around #3 on charts but linger around for a long time.

I mean GaGa was the biggest pop star on the planet for The Fame and Fame Monster eras, she has been the biggest pop girl already. It remains one of the 30 biggest selling albums in the U.K. of all time! I’d argue she was up there for the Born this way era in terms of still being up there as one of the bigger pop girls.

 

I get your point though, I don’t think she will ever reach those heights or be a Taylor Swift esque monster superstar again in commercial success but she will always be successful, she has shown herself to be too versatile and talented not to be.

 

Yeah, unlike talentless Ego Spice and her ghost written piles of SHITE, which are so so so bad they can't even be called literature!!!

 

But GaGa, like Ego Spice destroying the band 3 timed now, destroyed her own career with Born This Way's single choices and then with Artpop and Joanne. It's her own fault she's not Beyonce or Ariana big anymore. In fact people I knew who loved FM were saying that they found BTW a massive disappointment ... ON DAY ONE!!! And said another album like that woulfn't cut it ... and then she released two...

But it's true, let's be real, the edgy/dark/EDM some Little Monsters crave for EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. isn't going to be as successful as her music could be. I think she will always cater those people too, but they are not her priority. I mean she had a big hit on her last album with Rain on Me, a straight forward pop song, the stadium tour was sold out and STILL some of her fans think Chromatica was bad and flopped. Is it just because Stupid Love wasn't her best ever lead single? I don't know.

 

Artists like Charli xcx and Chappell Roan are hot and current right now but even their music might not be what people listen to THE MOST. They cater for certain audience, as long as the next hot and current stuff appears. Gaga is way past that - she was there in 2009/2011 - now she is an A lister and a legend already and that's what beautiful with her career. She can still smash pretty effortlessly with a timeless song, regardless of the trends.

I think it's an interesting discourse. Because she started out doing the EDM pop, people ("fans") assume that's what she always should be about and that's her style. But when we consider her influences (Bowie, Freddie Mercury) power ballads are very much part of her musical heritage.

 

The fact she can flit between the fun pop, the dark stuff, the power ballads and everything in between is testament to who she is as an artist. Constantly transforming and reinventing herself. Fans that just want the dance pop stuff are missing the point about what the artist stands for and represents!
