The song is a survivor!

Hmm I think it's doing alright, but it's a proper hit only in the countries that support her the most. For instance here it's among the top 20 international songs all the time and comfortably charting on Spotify. It's somewhere between Perfect Illusion and Stupid Love in terms of chart success.

 

#27 in the UK mids today.

 

Closer to a Perfect Illusion disaster tbh

The song didn't live up to the hype. It's a hard song even for us hardcore fans, let alone gp. I hope she comes up with something more accessible on single 2 (Zombie bride or dance in the shadow please).

It's not a disaster or anything, but we can safely say it's underperformed now (sadly)

Hopefully it can be a sleeper hit in the lower regions of the chart.

 

And see if it picks up Christmas! It’s too good to underperform even if it is a bit out there.

 

Who knows if it would’ve done better had they held off until January?! I’m glad we got but I’m kinda mad we didn’t get any physicals as of yet. I’m glad she’s at least done the live performances and other versions and we had big streaming pushes initially but yeah maybe the song just isn’t universal. BUT we’ve seen on many occasion that she gets the second single right so I do think we could be in for another HIT this era.

 

Every era so far has had at least one major hit for her and I do think she’ll get one with this era. The charts are just in a weird state now because it’s about to become a Christmas chart come the end of next week. I’m still impressed in a sense that it’s had the run it’s had. It’s kinda like her Dancing In The Flames in the sense it’s the lead single but it’s just not fully taken off in the way it could / should have.

 

Yeah DITF is a good comparison, however The Weeknd released Timeless with Playboi Carti immediately after - whether it was to "save" the era at that stage or planned beforehand, we can only guess. He has done "two singles at once" strategy before. But now he has the third one too (São Paulo) which is another flop so...

 

Anyway, they are in a bit similar stage: both have duet hits (DWAS and Timeless) and underperforming solo songs there at once.

Producer Cirkut reveals "Disease" happened "fairly early" in the creation process of #LG7!

 

Wonder what that means for the sound of the rest of the album!

The entire ‘Disease’ roll out for a lead single is so confusing (and many are saying it too). You can tell loads of $$$ were pumped in by the record label given the high stream playlist placement and radio deals but…Gaga did nothing to help and promote the song at all like a traditional lead single would’ve got :(.

 

Fingers crossed she’s holding out on single 2 because Disease deserves so much more. It’s my 5th favourite Gaga song of all time and it deserves justice :(

I think she has done lots! There are 3 different versions out there, lyric video, official video, plenty of engagement on Tiktok, decent airplay and playlisting. Only thing missing is a tv performance but she'll do those for the album I suppose. I mean she cannot be a guest on SNL now AND in February.

Yes she can, she's Lady Gaga and she's signed to one of the biggest record companies in the world. But, she probably doesn't think it's worth it. I believe she will perform the 2nd single and some promotional track/3rd single on SNL in February. Disease goes into the same vault as Perfect Illusion and Stupid Love of poorly promoted lead singles.

If we talk about the Joanne era, she didn't do much for Perfect Illusion. She did promote A-Yo and Million Reasons a lot though.

Dropped out of Spotify charts globally. It was fun while it lasted, 29 days to be exact. Wonder if it can return at some point.

 

Predicted to stay in top 60 on Hot 100 which is great!

After some consideration I would label ‘Disease’ as poorly promoted. She hasn’t given any lead single a proper push since….Applause. She was all over the world with Just Dance, Bad Romance, Born This Way and even Applause. Since Perfect Illusion she hasn’t given much thought of giving her lead singles a push but rather opted for the approach of letting the song sell for itself which….hasn’t worked in her favour at all.

Expected to rise to #55 (+1) on Hot 100 in its fourth week despite several Christmas re-entries. It should drop in its fifth week due to Kendrick's album bomb (12 songs) and other Christmas songs re-entering.

 

But if radio gets on board...

I can see the song somehow surviving through Christmas.
