One of her best vocal performances, if not the best. :deadbanana:

It's a shame it doesn't play in the film, it'd be another easy Oscar nomination (and possible win) for her.

Absolutely GORGEOUS. I love this song so much! I hope it features in the movie because I think this may be another Oscar win for her if it's featured!

Can't get over the performance. One for the ages.

Vulture has updated their Gaga ranking and this is the highest track from Harlequin at #15 (as it should)

Since “Just Dance” and “Poker Face” made her a household name, Lady Gaga has explored her psyche through performance, and often artifice. A pop song can have many layers, but it’s ultimately something that can be understood through its surface. But it’s entirely possible to present yourself as empowered and vulnerable and to still be holding back parts of yourself. Harlequin was conceived as a way to further explore Gaga’s Joker character Harley Quinn, but on its penultimate track, she drops the mask entirely. Over acoustic guitar, she confesses, “A lonely disposition / Portraits of a strung-out girl / How’d I get so addicted to the love of the whole world?” The song recalls many of Gaga’s most challenging times, not all of them lived in public — the deep trauma beneath ARTPOP, the grief and chronic health struggles shown in Gaga: Five Foot Two, the tentative quality of much of Joanne’s confessional songwriting. “Happy Mistake” feels adrift — too raw to be in the past, too painful to be entirely present, too uncertain for the future. Perhaps it’s the moment where Harley Quinn dissolves into Lady Gaga and, further, into Stefani Germanotta.

Part of me wishes this was given a stand alone release separate from Harlequins project. It’s too good to remain a hidden gem!

Really hope LG7 has something along in the vein of this on it too! Gorgeous.

It's actually a really nice track!

I wish that A) it had managed to make at least a small splash and B ) the rest of the project was up to the same standard.

^ agree with the above. I wish it had its own focus away from the album it was associated with. And I too wish it was an album of originals in retrospect with the quality of this being so high
One of the best songs of the year, agree wish I’d had a bigger push
