Shaboozey’s ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’ Scores 12th Week at No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100

By Gary Trust | 09/30/2024

Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” tallies a 12th week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, extending 2024’s longest command. Notably, it has now reigned for twice as long as any other No. 1 this year, doubling up on Post Malone six-week leader “I Had Some Help,” featuring Morgan Wallen.

“A Bar Song (Tipsy),” which became Shaboozey’s first Hot 100 No. 1 in July, also ties for the third-longest rule this decade.

The track additionally furthers the longest No. 1 run of 2024 on the multimetric Hot Country Songs chart, adding a sweet 16th week in the top spot.

Meanwhile, Sabrina Carpenter claims three songs in the Hot 100’s top 10 – “Espresso,” “Please Please Please” and “Taste” – for a fifth consecutive week, becoming the first woman in the chart’s 66-year history to link such a streak.

“A Bar Song (Tipsy),” on American Dogwood/EMPIRE (with country radio promotion by Magnolia Music), totaled 78.2 million radio airplay audience impressions (up 4%), 27.8 million official streams (down 3%) and 8,000 sold (down 8%) in the United States Sept. 20-26.

The track holds for a ninth week at No. 1 on the Radio Songs chart and a seventh week at No. 1 on Streaming Songs and rebounds 3-2 following 13 weeks at No. 1 on Digital Song Sales.

“A Bar Song (Tipsy)” pads the longest Hot 100 rule this year – and doubles up on its closest competitor. Here’s a look at the songs that have led for multiple weeks since January:

12 weeks, “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” Shaboozey, beginning July 13

6, “I Had Some Help,” Post Malone feat. Morgan Wallen, beginning May 25

5, “Lovin On Me,” Jack Harlow (*6 total weeks at No. 1, beginning Dec. 2, 2023)

3, “Like That,” Future, Metro Boomin & Kendrick Lamar, beginning April 6

2, “Not Like Us,” Kendrick Lamar, beginning May 18

2, “Fortnight,” Taylor Swift feat. Post Malone, beginning May 4

2, “Texas Hold ‘Em,” Beyoncé, beginning March 2

“A Bar Song (Tipsy)” also ties for the third-most weeks spent at No. 1 on the Hot 100 in the 2020s. Here’s a recap:

16 weeks, “Last Night,” Morgan Wallen, 2023

15, “As It Was,” Harry Styles, 2022

12 (to date), “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” Shaboozey, 2024

12, “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” Mariah Carey, 2020-23 (*14 total weeks at No. 1, including its first two on charts dated in December 2019)

11, “The Box,” Roddy Ricch, 2020

10, “Easy on Me,” Adele, 2021

10, “Butter,” BTS, 2021

“A Bar Song (Tipsy)” is now one of only 24 No. 1s in the Hot 100’s history to run up 12 or more weeks on top – an honor that 2% of all No. 1s have achieved. All 24 hits have led since the chart adopted electronically-monitored Luminate data in November 1991, at which point longer reigns than before subsequently became more common; since then, a still-select 6% of all No. 1s have led for 12 or more weeks.

Plus, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” became Shaboozey’s first Hot 100 chart entry with no other billed acts. (He first logged two collaborations from Beyoncé’s album Cowboy Carter in April: “Spaghettii,” also with Linda Martell [No. 31 peak], and “Sweet * Honey * Buckiin’ ” [No. 61].)

Over the Hot 100’s history, only four acts have ruled for 12 or more weeks with a first entry as a sole lead artist (with the three other than Shaboozey having made their respective first appearances at all with the titles below):

Lil Nas X: an overall-record 19 weeks at No. 1 in 2019 with “Old Town Road,” feat. Billy Ray Cyrus

Mark Ronson: 14 weeks, 2015, “Uptown Funk!,” feat. Bruno Mars

Los Del Rio: 14 weeks, 1996, “Macarena (Bayside Boys Mix)”

Shaboozey: 12 weeks, 2024, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)”

Meanwhile, Sabrina Carpenter boasts three songs in the Hot 100’s top 10 for a fifth consecutive week – becoming the first woman in the chart’s 66-year history to establish such a run.

The singer-songwriter’s “Espresso” holds at its No. 3 high, having become her first top 10; “Please Please Please” rises 9-8, after it became her first No. 1 in June; and “Taste” slips 8-9, after it debuted at its No. 2 best.

Thanks to the trio of hits – all from Short n’ Sweet, Carpenter’s first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 – she becomes the first woman to link as many as five consecutive weeks with at least three simultaneous Hot 100 top 10s. She passes Cardi B, who charted three concurrent top 10s for four weeks in a row in 2018.

Post Malone’s “I Had Some Help,” featuring Morgan Wallen, is steady at No. 2 on the Hot 100, following six weeks at No. 1 beginning upon its debut in May.

Chappell Roan’s “Good Luck, Babe!” repeats at its No. 4 Hot 100 high and Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ “Die With a Smile” keeps at No. 5, after reaching No. 3.

Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” maintains its No. 6 Hot 100 altitude, after hitting No. 5. It tops the multimetric Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Alternative Songs charts for an eighth week each.

Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control,” which led the Hot 100 for a week in March, is stationary at No. 7. It also ties for the seventh-most weeks spent in the top 10 over the chart’s history:

57 weeks, “Blinding Lights,” The Weeknd, 2020-21

44, “Stay,” The Kid LAROI & Justin Bieber, 2021-22

41, “Last Night,” Morgan Wallen, 2023-24

41, “Levitating,” Dua Lipa, 2021

39, “Circles,” Post Malone, 2019-20

38, “As It Was,” Harry Styles, 2022-23

37, “Lose Control,” Teddy Swims, 2024

37, “Heat Waves,” Glass Animals, 2021-22

34, “Cruel Summer,” Taylor Swift, 2023-24

33, “Sunflower (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse),” Post Malone & Swae Lee, 2018-19

33, “Girls Like You,” Maroon 5 feat. Cardi B, 2018-19

33, “Shape of You,” Ed Sheeran, 2017

Rounding out the Hot 100’s top 10, Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” is a non-mover at No. 10, following two weeks at No. 1 in May and July. It leads the multimetric Hot Rap Songs chart for a 20th week – tying Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, for the most weeks at No. 1 in the ranking’s 35-year history – and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for an 18th week.
