October 15, 2024Oct 15 Author Shaboozey’s ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’ No. 1 on Hot 100 for 14th Week, Tying for Second-Longest Rookie Reign By Gary Trust | 10/7/2024 Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” orders a 14th round at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song, which became the singer-songwriter’s first leader in July, extends 2024’s longest reign and moves to within two weeks of tying the longest command this decade; Morgan Wallen’s fellow country/pop crossover smash “Last Night” led for 16 weeks in 2023. Plus, as “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” became Shaboozey’s first Hot 100 chart entry with no other billed acts, it ties for the second-longest No. 1 stay among all such breakthrough hits, with only Lil Nas X’s debut, “Old Town Road” (featuring Billy Ray Cyrus), having led longer, for an overall-record 19 weeks in 2019. “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” additionally furthers the longest No. 1 run of 2024 on the multimetric Hot Country Songs chart, adding an 18th week in the top spot. A fan of multiple musical styles upon discovering music, Shaboozey “found country to be the thing that resonated with me in a really strong way,” he shared for his Billboard cover story. “Me being from Virginia, me loving the style and the way of life and the things they talked about … it all seemed very peaceful. It seemed like I could be real. I found country music could teach people that the little things in life are where the value is. Just having a working truck that you can take your girl in to ride to a cliff and watch the sunset is enough.” “I love hip-hop; I’m a part of their community, too,” Shaboozey added, with “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” having reworked J-Kwon’s 2004 hit “Tipsy.” “That’s what I want to do with my music: be disruptive and show people that music is progressing.” “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” on American Dogwood/EMPIRE (with country radio promotion by Magnolia Music), totaled 75.6 million radio airplay audience impressions, 26.4 million official streams (down 1% week-over-week in each metric) and 6,000 sold (down 22%) in the United States Oct. 4-10. The track posts an 11th week at No. 1 on the Radio Songs chart; rebounds 2-1 for an eighth frame atop Streaming Songs; and holds at No. 2 following 13 weeks at No. 1 on Digital Song Sales. “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” extends the longest stay at No. 1 on the Hot 100 this year. Here’s a look at the songs that have led for multiple weeks since January: 14 weeks, “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” Shaboozey, beginning July 13 6, “I Had Some Help,” Post Malone feat. Morgan Wallen, beginning May 25 5, “Lovin On Me,” Jack Harlow (*6 total weeks at No. 1, beginning Dec. 2, 2023) 3, “Like That,” Future, Metro Boomin & Kendrick Lamar, beginning April 6 2, “Not Like Us,” Kendrick Lamar, beginning May 18 2, “Fortnight,” Taylor Swift feat. Post Malone, beginning May 4 2, “Texas Hold ‘Em,” Beyoncé, beginning March 2 “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” solely sports the third-most weeks spent at No. 1 on the Hot 100 in the 2020s. Here’s a recap: 16 weeks, “Last Night,” Morgan Wallen, 2023 15, “As It Was,” Harry Styles, 2022 14 (to date), “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” Shaboozey, 2024 12, “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” Mariah Carey, 2020-23 (*14 total weeks at No. 1, including its first two on charts dated in December 2019) 11, “The Box,” Roddy Ricch, 2020 10, “Easy on Me,” Adele, 2021 10, “Butter,” BTS, 2021 “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” is now one of only 14 No. 1s in the Hot 100’s history to amass 14 or more weeks on top – an honor that a mere 1.2% of all No. 1s have achieved. All 14 hits have led since the chart adopted electronically-monitored Luminate data in November 1991, at which point longer reigns than before subsequently became more common; since then, 3.4% of all No. 1s have led for 14 or more weeks. “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” became Shaboozey’s first Hot 100 chart entry with no other billed acts. (He first logged two collaborations from Beyoncé’s album Cowboy Carter in April: “Spaghettii,” also with Linda Martell [No. 31 peak], and “Sweet * Honey * Buckiin’ ” [No. 61].) Over the Hot 100’s archives, only four acts have ruled for 14 or more weeks with a first entry as a sole lead artist (with the three acts other than Shaboozey having made their respective first appearances at all with the titles below): Lil Nas X: an overall-record 19 weeks at No. 1 in 2019 with “Old Town Road,” feat. Billy Ray Cyrus Shaboozey: 14 weeks, 2024, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” Mark Ronson: 14 weeks, 2015, “Uptown Funk!,” feat. Bruno Mars Los Del Rio: 14 weeks, 1996, “Macarena (Bayside Boys Mix)” Rest of the Top 10: ‘Feather’ & More Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” flies in place at its No. 2 Hot 100 high. It concurrently tops the multimetric Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Alternative Songs charts for a 10th week each. Post Malone’s “I Had Some Help,” featuring Morgan Wallen, climbs 4-3 on the Hot 100, following six weeks at No. 1 beginning upon its debut in May. Sabrina Carpenter boasts three songs in the Hot 100’s top 10 for a seventh consecutive week: “Espresso” buzzes 5-4, after becoming her first top 10, reaching No. 3; “Taste” rises 9-7, after it debuted at its No. 2 best; and “Please Please Please” ascends 10-9, after it became her first No. 1 in June. Thanks to the trio of hits, all from her album Short n’ Sweet, she has become one of just six acts that have tripled up in the top 10 for seven consecutive weeks or more. Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ “Die With a Smile” pushes 6-5 on the Hot 100, after hitting No. 3, and Chappell Roan’s “Good Luck, Babe!” lifts 7-6, after reaching No. 4. Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control,” which led the Hot 100 for a week in March, holds at No. 8, as it ties for the fifth-most weeks spent in the top 10 over the chart’s history: 57 weeks, “Blinding Lights,” The Weeknd, 2020-21 44, “Stay,” The Kid LAROI & Justin Bieber, 2021-22 41, “Last Night,” Morgan Wallen, 2023-24 41, “Levitating,” Dua Lipa, 2021 39, “Lose Control,” Teddy Swims, 2024 39, “Circles,” Post Malone, 2019-20 38, “As It Was,” Harry Styles, 2022-23 37, “Heat Waves,” Glass Animals, 2021-22 Rounding out the Hot 100’s top 10, Benson Boone’s No. 2-peaking “Beautiful Things” returns to the region, rising 12-10. (Although it last ranked in the tier in early August, it has placed in the top 15 each week dating to its February debut.) Following the 39 weeks in the top 10 for “Lose Control” (starting on the Jan. 20-dated chart), “Espresso” and “Beautiful Things” rank second with 25 top 10 weeks each this year; “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” follows with 24.
October 15, 2024Oct 15 HOT 100 Summary & Review 15.10.24 #2 This week we have zero (yes, zero) new entries or re-entries in the top 82. Woopy doo, what a fun week! At least there's some top-10 movement. THE TOP 10: At 10, we have Beautiful Things by Benson Boone gaining 2. After a good week in the digital sales and an overall gain, it's enough to push back, not enough to push Pash. Please Please Please at 9 though, which sees a gain of 1 mainly because Of The Weeknd and Carti's flop of Timeless exiting the top 10 after a week; at 8 we have Lose Control spending its 39th week in the top 10; and now being the 5th song that's spent the longest in the top 10, easing past the competition is Taste at 7, which is up 2 despite its quick fall off in the recent weeks; Chapell Roan is climbing up to 6, which Good luck, babe, after a shook week, and Gaga and Mars are up to 5, including Die With A Smile, which is still picking up traction. Espresso heads up to no. 4, giving Carpenter her 7th week with all songs in the in the top 10, and I Had Some Help is up to 3 spending its 22nd week charting. Surprising Billie Eilish's music video is still gaining traction after a week, leading her to stick at 2. It'll be interesting to see if she can continue this longer, and of course at no. 1 for its 14th week is a bar song Tipsy by Shaboozey, which, in no surprise, is still no. 1 on multiple categories. Watch out, Lil Nas X!! RE ENTRYS: 98: Holy Smokes, Bailey Zimmerman [Who still cares about this?] 93 - Worst Way - Riley Green [Take out way and just keep this as worst.] NEW: 95: New Drop: Don Toliver I don't know what to call this song; it isn't fixated on one genre unless I'm just stupid (which I am). I feel Don could've put more effort into this; the song is called New Drop but feels really low effort and not like a new drop at all; it's repeated lyrics make it sound like a TikTok song, and it's low, awkward energy does not match any mood; maybe just not drop at all? 88: Fix What You Didn't Break—Nate Smith I really like this; Nate's vocal structure held up the base of the song, and the production didn't weaken any of the work out; the song did what it was meant to do! 87. We Pray: Coldplay/Little Simz/Burna Boy/Elyanna/TINI I already reviewed this, so I'll repost it: First of all, I appreciate that artists from completely different genres can come together and make something that works. As much as this is a decent song and something that works, it isn't amazing for me; it doesn't necessarily feel incomplete or glitchy; it just feels like there could've been more style showcased from each artist or just a little more spice. 84: Thick Of It—KSI/Trippie Redd Reposted review that I already did: At least he got something after his whole album got leaked. (Also, please take Lunchly out of stores and answer to the crypto allegations, KSI—we haven't forgotten.) ADDED NOTES: The songs have grown on me. The beat starts faded and turns into something much better! NOTEABLE CHANGES: ALL RED by Playboi Carti slips from 72 to 99 Future's Ski is down 21 spots to 94. Close To You by Gracie Abrams is up 9 to 90. Teflon Don is down from 55 to 82. Plutoski drops from 62 to 79. El Lokeron by Tito Double P is up from 92 to 77. Residuals by Chris Brown lifts 10 to 75 The emptiness machine is down from 58 to 73. 21 Savage and Summer Walkers Prove it lands up 10 to 71 I Never Lie by Zach Top is up 10 to 68. Cody and Carries Country collab drops 33 spots to 65 after its debut. Lil Demon drops from 49 to 64. Am I Okay? Megan Moroney is up 14 to 63. Guy For That drops from 44 to 61. Diet Pepsi is up from 70 to 54. - NLE Choppa and 41 soar up from 91 to 52 with Or What? Tito Double P and Peso Pluma are up 10 to 51. Luke Bryan drops 10 spots to 49 with Love You, Miss You, Mean It. Tucker Wetmore is up from 64 to 43 with Wind Up Missing You. Gigi Perez is up 12 spots to 33 with Sailor Song, her first week in the top 40. I Love You I'm Sorry by Grace Abrams is up 22 spots to 31. - The Weeknd and Playboi Carti crash out of the top 10 down from no. 3 to 12 (as I predicted). Rankings Best to Worst: NEW ENTRYS: BEST: Fix What You Didn't Break—Nate Smith 2nd: WE PRAY: Coldplay/Little Simz/Burna Boy/Elyanna/TINI 3rd: Thick Of It, KSI/Trippie Redd WORST: New Drop: Don Toliver THE WHOLE TOP 100 BEST: The door; Teddy Swims WORST: Help Me—Real Boston Richey NEXT WEEKS PREDICTIONS: It looks like Shaboozey will have his 15th week at No. 1 unless Charlixcx's new collab with Ariane Grande has a huge push, and Billie Eilish's music video won't last forever. I'm expecting a push for Post and Morgan's 'I had some help' back to No. 2. It depends on who drops faster in the categories and if any new entry will takeover. Also, an expected charting appearance for Jennie's new one, Mantra. Apart from that, I doubt Lil Durk will have an album bomb. Goodbye and have a blessed amazing day ✌️
