Shaboozey’s ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’ Tends to 15th Week at No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100

By Gary Trust | 10/21/2024

Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” rounds up a 15th round at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The song, which became the singer-songwriter’s first Hot 100 leader in July, extends 2024’s longest reign. It also ties Harry Styles’ 2022 smash “As It Was” for the second-longest reign this decade; Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night” — like “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” a country-pop crossover hit — dominated for 16 weeks in 2023.

Over the Hot 100’s entire 66-year history, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” becomes one of just six hits to have led for at least 16 weeks.

“A Bar Song (Tipsy)” additionally extends the longest No. 1 run of 2024 on the multimetric Hot Country Songs chart, adding a 19th week in the top spot.

“A Bar Song (Tipsy),” on American Dogwood/EMPIRE (with country radio promotion by Magnolia Music), totaled 74 million radio airplay audience impressions (down 2% week-over-week), 24.9 million official streams (down 6%) and under 6,000 sold (down 8%) in the United States Oct. 11-17.

The track rules all three Hot 100 component charts: It holds for a 12th week at No. 1 on Radio Songs and a ninth frame at No. 1 on Streaming Songs and rebounds 2-1 for a 14th week atop Digital Song Sales.

(Notably, this week marks the first in which the top-selling download sold under 6,000 since Digital Song Sales began publishing in the Jan. 22, 2005, issue. The 45 weeks with the lowest totals have occurred since the start of 2022; as Billboard reported in January, U.S. digital track sales declined for an 11th consecutive year in 2023, falling 11.9% to 133.9 million from 151.9 million in 2022.)

“A Bar Song (Tipsy)” is one of only 12 hits that have led in the Hot 100’s three metrics simultaneously. It triples up for a third week, having become the first song to do so multiple times since Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito,” featuring Justin Bieber, in 2017.

Here’s a recap of each song that has achieved the feat at least once — with “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” now having the longest span of doing so:

“A Bar Song (Tipsy),” Shaboozey, Aug. 17 & 24; Oct. 26, 2024

“Easy On Me,” Adele, Dec. 4, 2021

“Despacito,” Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee feat. Justin Bieber, July 22 & 29; Aug. 5, 12 & 19, 2017

“Shape of You,” Ed Sheeran, March 25; April 1, 8 & 15, 2017

“Closer,” The Chainsmokers feat. Halsey, Oct. 15, 22 & 29; Nov. 5, 12 & 19, 2016

“Hello,” Adele, Nov. 28; Dec. 5 & 19, 2015

“The Hills,” The Weekend, Oct. 17 & 31, 2015

“Uptown Funk!,” Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars, Feb. 7, 14 & 21; March 7, 14, 21 & 28; April 4 & 11, 2015

“Blank Space,” Taylor Swift, Dec. 27, 2014

“All About That Bass,” Meghan Trainor, Oct. 11 & 18, 2014

“Fancy,” Iggy Azalea feat. Charli XCX, June 28, 2014

“Happy,” Pharrell Williams, May 3, 2014

Meanwhile, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” has topped both the Hot 100 and Radio Songs for 12 weeks running. That’s the longest run atop the rankings simultaneously since Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together” doubled up for 14 weeks, nonconsecutively, in 2005. Shaboozey’s hit links the longest consecutive reign since Usher’s “Yeah!” led both lists at the same time for 12 weeks in a row in 2004.

Here’s a look at the elite four titles (two by Carey) that have topped the Hot 100 and Radio Songs simultaneously for 12 weeks or more since the latter chart began in December 1990:

“A Bar Song (Tipsy),” Shaboozey, 12 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 & Radio Songs simultaneously, 2024

“We Belong Together,” Mariah Carey, 14 weeks, 2005

“Yeah!,” Usher; 12 weeks, 2004

“One Sweet Day,” Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men; 12 weeks, 1995-96

“A Bar Song (Tipsy)” furthers the longest stay at No. 1 on the Hot 100 this year. Here’s a look at the songs that have led for multiple weeks since January:

15 weeks, “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” Shaboozey, beginning July 13

6, “I Had Some Help,” Post Malone feat. Morgan Wallen, beginning May 25

5, “Lovin On Me,” Jack Harlow (*6 total weeks at No. 1, beginning Dec. 2, 2023)

3, “Like That,” Future, Metro Boomin & Kendrick Lamar, beginning April 6

2, “Not Like Us,” Kendrick Lamar, beginning May 18

2, “Fortnight,” Taylor Swift feat. Post Malone, beginning May 4

2, “Texas Hold ‘Em,” Beyoncé, beginning March 2

As noted above, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” ties Harry Styles’ “As It Was” for the second-most weeks spent at No. 1 on the Hot 100 in the 2020s, with each trailing only Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night” (16 weeks, 2023).

“A Bar Song (Tipsy)” is also now one of only six No. 1s in the Hot 100’s history to amass 15 or more weeks on top – of 1,174 total leaders dating to the chart’s Aug. 4, 1958, start. (All six have led since the chart adopted electronically-monitored Luminate data in November 1991, at which point longer reigns than before subsequently became more common.)

Here’s a recap of the select six longest-leading Hot 100 No. 1s over the chart’s history:

19 weeks, “Old Town Road,” Lil Nas X feat. Billy Ray Cyrus, 2019

16, “Last Night,” Morgan Wallen, 2023

16, “Despacito,” Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee feat. Justin Bieber, 2017

16, “One Sweet Day,” Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men, 1995-96

15 (to date), “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” Shaboozey, 2024

15, “As It Was,” Harry Styles, 2022

Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” perches at its No. 2 Hot 100 high for a third week. It concurrently tops the multimetric Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Alternative Songs charts for an 11th week each.

Sabrina Carpenter sports three songs in the Hot 100’s top 10 for an eighth consecutive week: “Espresso,” her first top 10, rebounds 4-3 to its peak; “Taste” slips 7-8, after it debuted at its No. 2 best; and “Please Please Please” falls 9-10, after it became her first No. 1 in June. Thanks to the trio of hits, all from her album Short n’ Sweet, she has become one of just six acts that have tripled up in the top 10 for eight consecutive weeks or more.

Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ “Die With a Smile” rises 5-4 on the Hot 100, after hitting No. 3, and Post Malone’s “I Had Some Help,” featuring Morgan Wallen, drops 3-5, following six weeks at No. 1 beginning upon its debut in May.

Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control,” which led the Hot 100 for a week in March, ascends 8-6, as it solely claims the fifth-most weeks spent in the top 10 all-time with a milestone 40th frame in the region:

57 weeks, “Blinding Lights,” The Weeknd, 2020-21

44, “Stay,” The Kid LAROI & Justin Bieber, 2021-22

41, “Last Night,” Morgan Wallen, 2023-24

41, “Levitating,” Dua Lipa, 2021

40, “Lose Control,” Teddy Swims, 2024

39, “Circles,” Post Malone, 2019-20

38, “As It Was,” Harry Styles, 2022-23

37, “Heat Waves,” Glass Animals, 2021-22

Elsewhere in the Hot 100’s top 10, Chappell Roan’s “Good Luck, Babe!” dips 6-7, after reaching No. 4, and Benson Boone’s No. 2-peaking “Beautiful Things” pushes 10-9.

if someone thinks the UK top 10 is boring... the US top 10 this year has been the most boring ever with Shaboozy #1 for 15 weeks and counting and all those Teddy Sims and Benson Boone borefests in the top 10 for ages
Charli 360 climbing to 41 again. :o Shame it couldn't go just one place higher.
Looking ahead there's a really good chance for Rosé/Bruno to debut pretty high, considering their Spotify and iTunes positions. For reference "Ice Cream" peaked at #13 so if "APT." makes top 10 it'll be the first top 10 for BLACKPINK including both group and solo projects. Lisa's highest peak is #70 with "Rockstar", Jennie's is #51 with "One Of The Girls", and Jisoo's is #104 (#4 bubbling under) with "Flower".
just read it could debut top 5

Be Charlotte on that Rod Wave album track is actually a Scottish singer surprisingly!
Very interesting :o Edited, thanks for letting me know!

Argh at '360' climbing to #41 again, sadly I think this was its last realistic chance to make the top 40.

Hot 100 Summary & Review 22.10.24 #3

*Please note I will not be reviewing the Rod Wave album due to me already having listened to it; instead, I will give a simple rating and a mention. If you are interested in seeing my opinion on them, it has been posted before in my Last Lap album review.

THE TOP 10:

'Please, please, please' slips a spot to 10 as it's declining and moving faster; this very well is likely to be its last week in the top 10 unless we see 'Beautiful Things' at 9 dip, at 8 'Taste' by Sabrina Carpenter slips a spot, and so does 'Good luck, babe!' At 7, which got pushed down due to 'Lose Control' by Teddy Swims jumping 2 spots, giving the song its 40th week top 10, at 5, 'I Had Some Help' by Post Malone and Morgan Wallen slips 2 spots, it doesn't matter for Morgan since he'll be number 1 next week anyway (most likely). Gaga and Mars climb closer to the songs peak up a spot to 4 with 'Die With A Smile' and repeaking at 3 is 'Espresso' by Sabrina Carpenter, Yet another week of Sabrina having 3 songs in the top 10. at 2 is 'Birds of a Feather' holding at 2 for its third week. I didn't think the music video boost would go nearly as well! And holding at number 1 for the 15th week, tieing Harry Styles for the 2nd longest running no.1 of this decade, is A Bar Song (Tipsy) by Shaboozey!

RE ENTRYS:

There's no re-entry this week, but there's a heck load of new ones.

NEW ENTRYS:

100 - Karma - Rod wave (5.5/10)

99 - Leave Me Alone - BigXthaPlug (6/10)

I really like Xtha's rough vocals, and it works well on the raw and intense thumping beat. I feel like this could have worked better if he had less of a gritty composition and more of a catchy one fit for the radios.

98: Mantra, Jenny (4/10)

She's really trying to push that big icon character with this, and it falls short of being called memorable. She tries to capture you with a hypnotic pulse, which in reality sounds like your usual social media song. Trust me, this'll do the rounds on TikTok, and then the only chance of a retrend will be decades later when she dies. Trust me, people, there are much better R&B-Dance Pop songs out there than this cringefest "Girl Power" song. 🙄

96: Scared Love, Rod Wave (5/10)

95 - D.A.R.E. - Rod Wave (5/10)

94 - Mike - Rod Wave (5.5/10)

93 - Waited 2 Late - Rod Wave (5/10)

92: I Luv Her, Glorilla/T-Pain (2/10)

Some of the verses in this song are so bad. Actually, all the verses in this song are bad! I don't know who thought the playful wordplay would go along well with a serious tone; in fact, I can't even say the lyrics here there that bad. I will also never be a fan of T Pain's autotune; it puts me in T Pain; anyone who likes those types of vocals would dance to an autotuned newborn baby crying. Glorilla tries to give a fiery kick to this but makes it sound even more stupid when you know what she's singing. This song isn't for TikTok; it's for deletion.

90 - How I Look - Glorilla/Megan Thee Stallion (2/10)

The shots fired in this song are laughable, Megan adresses with her unapologetic vocals that she won't bother engaging in arguements with people who can't even get up to her level, well you have been rumour to have dissed 5 people on one track, some who I've never even heard Diss you and you took Tory to court before dropping 'HISS' which was a "i'm gonna cry to my mommy" track, You certainly Diss people above your level and then act like your the mature one here, even if Nicki lost the beef she's still a much more successful rapper than you and so is Drake, Glorilla followed up by saying the same (She has 1 top 10 and has only been charting a few times since 2022, don't get cocky) also she only charts majority of the time due to collaborations 🙄 the only other thing this woman can flex about is her body count which I'm sure I would be disgusted to hear how high it is. To the actual track sound, I'm not surprised that this gritty track really missed the spot and didn't have much to it apart from the spicy, controversial lyrics. If this lasts three weeks, I'll be gobsmacked. The only chance of this climbing is because of the lyrics. The back and forth by both female rappers is quick-paced and high-pitched but really fails to deliver a feel.

89 - Change Me, BigXthaPlug (5/10)

Xtha is one person who can rap about nonsense, and yet I can still stand him, and sometimes even like him; he doesn't hold back and has a really heavyweight hip hop style, and his dark undertones could be why people see him as a favourite. I feel like I should dislike this guy because he makes a lot of music I would perceive as rap cr*p, but something is stopping me from calling it that. It actually has work; this only charted higher than 'Leave Me Alone' due to the lyrical lemonade drop of it.

87 - Lost in Love - Rod Wave/Be Charlotte (5/10)

82 - Even Love - Rod Wave (5/10)

75 - The Best - Rod Wave (5.5/10)

63: Apply Pressure-Rod Wave (5.5/10)

57 - Turtle Race - Rod Wave (5/10)

54 - Never Mind - Rod Wave (6/10)

50 - F*** Fame - Rod Wave/Lil Yachty/Lil Baby (4/10)

46 - Angel With A Attitude - Rod Wave (4/10)

44, Federal Nightmare, Rod Wave (4/10)

36. Sympathy Is A Knife, Charlixcx Ft. Ariane Grande (3/10)

Still terrible on the second listen, someone commented, "Sounds like me on the toilet." I totally agree, this glitchy Electropop song did not need Ariane Grande on; this doesn't match well, and I don't get why the Internet seems to love this; the same songs spat out and mixed up again with production that's just overproduced and lacks anything that will keep it known. Also, Brat Summer is dead; stop pumping out these remixes for the sake of "I don't want to go back to being forgotten."

35 - Last Lap - Rod Wave (6/10)

31. Watchu Kno About Me, Glorilla/Sexyy Red (5/10)

It's basically a flex song about how successful they have been and then just a rap about their bodies. This actually wasn't as bad as her other new entries, and I thought it had a memorable hip-hop hook, which I thought was good. I actually did think this had some great lyrics, and it made me chuckle, but overall it's nothing to play again.

16- 25 (5/10)

NOTEABLE CHANGES:

Multiple songs have big drops due to the amount of new entries, mainly from Rod Wave's new album.

Jelly Roll climbs 12 spots to 74 with 'Liar.'

Good Graces drops from 44 to 70 for Sabrina Carpenter.

Ksi and Trippie Redd's 'Thick Of It' jumps 20 spots to 84.

28 by Zach Bryan has a noteable drop from 42 to 59.

Rod Wave soars up from 100 to 51 with 'Passport Junkie' due to his new album.

Rod Wave also climbs from 97 to 49 with 'Full Fast In Love' once again from the new album.

Hollon by Glorilla leaps up from 85 to 48 from her new album.

Glorilla climbs up 10 spots to 22 with 'TGIF.'

Gracie Abrams climbs from 31 to 19 with 'I Love You, I'm Sorry.'

Jelly Roll is up 3 spots to a new peak with 'I'm Not Okay' now at 14.

BEST TO WORSTS:

NEW ENTRIES: (I sorted it by albums because there were so many new entries.)

BEST: Leave Me Alone, BigXthaPlug

2ND: Just put the whole Rod Wave album here and the BigXthaplug single.

3RD: Mantra-JJENNIE

4th: The whole Glorilla album apart from the worst of the week.

WORST: I Luv Her, Glorilla/T-Pain

THE WHOLE TOP 100

BEST: The Door; Teddy Swims

WORST: Help me—Real Boston Richey

NEXT WEEKS PREDICTIONS:

Possibly a entry from Kylie Minogue's new one and fka twigs, but I really think the new entries to break barriers are 'Love Somebody' by Morgan Wallen, and I predict a high entry for 'APT.' By Rosé and Bruno Mars!

Thanks for reading, and sorry for the late post! I'm back on schedule now! Have an amazing week!
