October 30, 2024Oct 30 Author Morgan Wallen’s ‘Love Somebody’ Launches at No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100 By Gary Trust | 10/28/2024 Morgan Wallen’s “Love Somebody” leaps onto the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 1. The single, released Oct. 18, arrives as Wallen’s third Hot 100 leader, after Post Malone’s “I Had Some Help,” featuring Wallen, opened on top in May and reigned for six weeks, and “Last Night” dominated for 16 weeks in 2023. Notably, Wallen maintains the longest Hot 100 reign of the 2020s with “Last Night” – his new No. 1 dethrones Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” which a week earlier tallied its 15th week in the top spot (and remains tied with Harry Styles’ 2022 hit “As It Was” for the second-longest command this decade). “Love Somebody,” on Mercury/Big Loud/Republic, becomes the 1,175th No. 1 in the Hot 100’s 66-year history, and the first to debut atop the chart since “I Had Some Help.” “‘Love Somebody’ is a little bit of a new approach lyrically and sonically,” Wallen shared in a statement upon the release of the longing love song, which he co-wrote. “I wanted to try something different, with what I wanted to talk about … how I wanted it to sound, and we were inspired by Latin-leaning influences. I’m really excited about this song and pumped that it is out.” Plus, ROSÉ and Bruno Mars soar onto the Hot 100 at No. 8 with “APT.” BLACKPINK member ROSÉ earns her first top 10 as a soloist, outpacing the group’s No. 13 best set by “Ice Cream,” with Selena Gomez, in 2012. She also makes history as the first female artist prominent in K-pop (Korean pop) to hit the top 10. Mars, meanwhile, adds his milestone 20th Hot 100 top 10. “Love Somebody” arrives with 31.1 million official streams , 15.2 million radio airplay audience impressions and 17,000 sold in the United States Oct. 18-24. The track concurrently debuts at No. 1 on Streaming Songs, where it’s Wallen’s third No. 1, and Digital Song Sales, where he adds his seventh leader. It begins at No. 42 on Radio Songs, as well as No. 13 on Country Airplay, marking his highest career entrance on the latter list. Wallen initially previewed the song on TikTok in May and performed it during the European leg of his One Night at a Time Tour. Following the original single’s proper release Oct. 18, a live version was posted to Wallen’s official YouTube account Oct. 24. “Love Somebody” concurrently debuts as Wallen’s ninth leader, and record-extending sixth to debut at No. 1, on the multimetric Hot Country Songs chart. It’s the 29th hit to have topped both the Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs, dating to 1958, when the former originated and the latter became the country genre’s singular Billboard chart. It’s the fourth such song of 2024, after four also topped the Hot 100 in 2023, the most in a year since 1975; it’s the ninth this decade, after only two led over the previous 36 years. Plus, Wallen adds his record-breaking third shared Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs No. 1. He surpasses Glen Campbell, John Denver, Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers and Taylor Swift, each with two. The word “love” is a regular visitor to No. 1 via Hot 100 song titles, a tradition that began with “To Know Him, Is to Love Him” by The Teddy Bears in 1958. “Somebody” is rarer in the name of Hot 100 No. 1s, with Wallen’s new leader just the sixth. Here’s a look at everybody who’s earned the honor: “Love Somebody,” Morgan Wallen, 2024 “Somebody That I Used to Know,” Gotye feat. Kimbra, 2012 “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me),” Whitney Houston, 1987 “(Hey Won’t You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song,” B.J. Thomas, 1975 “Everybody Loves Somebody,” Dean Martin, 1964 “Everybody’s Somebody’s Fool,” Connie Francis, 1960 Busy “body”s: Wallen logs the third Hot 100 top 10 titled “Love Somebody.” Rick Springfield took his composition by that name to No. 5 in 1984, followed by Maroon 5’s No. 10 hit in 2013. ROSÉ and Bruno Mars roar onto the Hot 100 at No. 8 with “APT.” Released Oct. 18, the duet debuts with 25 million streams, 3.2 million in airplay audience and 14,000 sold in the U.S. BLACKPINK member ROSÉ spent one prior week on the Hot 100 as a soloist, when “On the Ground” charted at No. 70 for a week in March 2021. It topped both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts upon its debut. ROSÉ becomes the latest act that primarily records K-pop – and the first woman – to have hit the Hot 100’s top 10. She joins BTS (10 top 10s); BTS members Jung Kook (three) and Jimin (one) as soloists; and PSY (two). “APT.” introduces ROSÉ’s solo studio album, rosie, due Dec. 6. Mars, meanwhile, claims his 20th Hot 100 top 10 with “APT.,” becoming the 25th act with 20 or more top 10s. (Drake boasts a record 78.) Having scored his first top 10 in 2010, Mars is one of only seven artists to reach the milestone since then: 76 top 10s over the 2010s & ‘20s, Drake 54, Taylor Swift 26, Justin Bieber 22, Nicki Minaj 21, Ariana Grande 20, Bruno Mars 20, Rihanna Elsewhere in the Hot 100’s top 10, Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” dips to No. 2. It holds for a 13th week at No. 1 on Radio Songs (72.2 million, down 2% week-over-week). Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” drops to No. 3 from its No. 2 Hot 100 high. It tops the multimetric Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Alternative Songs charts for a 12th week each. Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” descends to No. 5 from its No. 3 best, while her “Taste” falls 8-9, after it debuted at its No. 2 peak. Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ “Die With a Smile” repeats at No. 4 on the Hot 100 after hitting No. 3. With Mars also at No. 8 with “APT.,” he charts two top 10s simultaneously for the first time since March 23, 2013, when “When I Was Your Man” ranked at No. 3 and “Locked Out of Heaven” was No. 10. Post Malone’s “I Had Some Help,” featuring Wallen, backtracks 5-6 on the Hot 100, following six weeks at No. 1 beginning upon its debut in May. Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control,” which led the Hot 100 for a week in March, slides 6-7 – and ties for the third-most weeks spent in the top 10 all-time: 57 weeks, “Blinding Lights,” The Weeknd, 2020-21 44, “Stay,” The Kid Laroi & Justin Bieber, 2021-22 41, “Lose Control,” Teddy Swims, 2024 41, “Last Night,” Morgan Wallen, 2023-24 41, “Levitating,” Dua Lipa, 2021 Rounding out the Hot 100’s top 10, Benson Boone’s No. 2-peaking “Beautiful Things” descends 9-10.
October 30, 2024Oct 30 US TOP 100 Summary & Review 29.10.24 #4 TOP 10: 'Beautiful Things' (10) and 'Taste (9) both dropped one spot due to two new entries, the first being 'APT.' at 8 by Rosé & Bruno Mars. At 7, we see 'Lose Control' drop 1 as it spends its 41st week in the top 10! 'I had some help' slips a spot to a 6! 'Espresso' by Sabrina Carpenter slides down to 5, and Gaga and Mars 'Die With A Smile' stays at 4. Above that is 'Birds of a Feather' which sees a drop of a spot despite its sales gain. 'A Bar Song (Tipsy)' stumbles off of no. 1 after 15 weeks there, and getting the new number 1 as a new entry is 'Love Somebody' by Morgan Wallen becoming his 3rd number 1 song! RE ENTRYS: 98. The Emptiness Machine, Linkin Park [LEGENDARY SONG] 97: Belong Together, Mark Ambor [Love this and love Mark's energy!] 92: New Drop: Don Toliver [This didn't need a re-entry.] 91: Worst Way, Riley Green [Meh] 89: Close to you, Gracie Abrams [Taylor Swift clone] 84: Si No Es Contigo, Cris Mj [Once again, I don't get the re hype.] 72- Nel-FFuerza Regida [This doesn't have the right energy for me] NEW ENTRYS: 95 - Back On My BS, BigXthaPlug (5/10) BigXthaPlug's harsh and gritty texture keeps me interested in what's going to come next. You may see a 5/10 score as average (which it is), but I'm not much of a hip-hop/rap fan, so this is interesting to me. I think the thing that really separates him is the deepness in the pitch of his voice and how he sounds unapologetic. Yes, it mainly follows the same rap route as Money & Fame, and the lyrics are honestly worse than Tiktok Brainrot to me, but it still is a decent track for how it was made. I guess I could say that he has a really good production and mixing team on a lot of his stuff. 64, 2 AM, BigXthaPlug (4/10) Guess who was a writer on this song? R. Kelly (*cough* the guy who went to jail who did some bad stuff.. some with children) Yeah, so I'm pretty disappointed in Big X to allow him on this and then put it out there. Judging from the lyrics, this song is about killing everything that isn't his, including people. Yeah, the lyrics scream Crazy all over it. And I can't say I'm impressed; it's everything Big X has done before, but over again, that isn't bad, but it's just keeping to the hip-hop gang roots, and it's really nothing special. Raw and emotional? Maybe, but hopefully not relatable. You want more info about the track? Sadly, there's nothing much to say about this. I guess it all works production-wise and with Big X, but there really isn't anything special to this. 58 - Him All Along - Gunna (6/10) I'm flowing with this; the pace and rhythm really keep me interested with the song, although I felt this needed a little spice to it. The lyrics rhymed when I felt it was satisfying and not too much that it's a poem. This does seem like a song that will get boring after a few listens, though; that's why it needs something added into the mix. This can hook in new people and has its catch, but Gunna needs to give more here. 44: That's So True, Gracie Abrams (4/10) REPOSTED REVIEW BY ME: I like the faster moving sound better with Gracie, but I really don't get her hype; this is off the deluxe version of her album 'The Secret of Us,' and once again she sounds like a knockoff of Taylor Swift but slightly worse, in fact noticeably worser. I dislike the way she sings and the way this song is produced, and it just feels like a song teenage girls would listen to and cry with (in a cringe way). Everything about this is giving Taylor copy and paste. The lyrics really round like Taylor to! In fact, this track doesn't really need an introduction. It's literally Taylor Swift. That's it. 43 - Noid - Tyler, The Creator (5/10) REPOSTED REVIEW BY ME: Noid is a psychedelic rock song that features Zambian verses talking about his fear as a celebrity and getting noticed more due to him possibly being a target. Now I get him talking about wanting to be in privacy, but the lyrics feel something that would go well with a rougher, higher pitch, but it's more of a song that gives a lower sense of paranoia rather than a straight-up full freakout. I find the production on this inspiring, and the female Zambian vocals on this actually sounded like they were more memorable than Tyler's actual verse. This is a very real yet gripping track for me that speaks in a lot; the 1970s sample and the music video capture this piece well. I personally only give it a 5 because I wish there was more grip and intensity to this, but it's not a bad track. 23. Tu Boda, Oscar Mayden/Fuerza Regida (5/10) Ehhhh, this lacked a lot of character for me and sounded like your average salsa song or something you would see in a TV advertisement for Mexican food. Well apparently it has a counterversy to it; the song has been accused of promoting f*micide (a man killing a girl due to her gender), as the lyric "I Want to Stain the White Dress Red" was suspected of promoting it. The whole song is supposed to be about a man seeing his loved one marry someone else. This to me has both artists roots, but it really lacks any kick that will propel the song higher other than contreversy and big names. The mass amount of instruments on this, such as guitar, ukelele, piano, and more, is shocking considering how the song still sounds similar to any other Latin charting song. 8 - APT. - ROSÉ/Bruno Mars (6/10) REPOSTED REVIEW BY ME: With each listen, the high energy is starting to reach me, and I think I like this. As mentioned before, I'm shocked ROSÉ (2 million monthly listeners) got a feature from Bruno Mars (110 something million monthly listeners) (stats off of Spotify). This will feature on ROSÉ's upcoming album, which will release on December 6th of this year, and this track I do see as a clear one to push! The fast-paced fun, the big feature, and the drums work really well with both of their energy. I like seeing Bruno's fun side again, and this shows it well! 1: Love Somebody by Morgan Wallen (8/10) REPOSTED REVIEW FROM ME: This was my number one most streamed track of the week and yet another successful single for Morgan Wallen. I didn't think this needed like 7 writers on it (Digital Farm Animals being one of them), but yet this still ended up being great! I really liked the guitar making up the chill pop-country chorus and melody; it was a great fit and really adds something new while keeping to the singer's roots! The song explores themes of heartbreak and wanting someone to love, which is shown in Morgan's raspy yet fitting vocals making up the track. NOTEABLE MOVERS: Rod Wave's album Bomb only sees 5 out of the 17 charting songs surviving. Sympathy Is A Knife crashes from 36 down to 85. 'Thick Of It' slips to 81 and 'Guess' to 80. Charlixcx continues her bad luck as 360 falls from 41 to 77. Glorilla and T-Pain bounce up 22 spots to 70. Shake Dat A** (T**** Song) continues its rise to 54 Peso Pluma sees climbs to 52 and 51. Rod Wave drops from 16 to 34 with '25.' Glorilla gains up 2 spots to 29 with 'WATCHU KNO ABOUT ME.' 'Good luck, Babe!' is down 4 spots to 11, out of the top 10. BEST TO WORSTS: NEW ENTRYS: BEST: Love Somebody, Morgan Wallen 2ND: APT. - ROSÉ/Bruno Mars 3RD: Him All Along, Gunna 4TH - Noid - Tyler, The Creator 5TH: Back On My BS: BigXthaPlug 6TH: Tu Boda, Oscar Maydon/Fuerza Regida 7TH: That's So True, Gracie Abrams WORST - 2 AM - BigXthaPlug THE WHOLE TOP 100 BEST: Austin-DDasha WORST: Help Me—Real Boston Richey NEXT WEEKS PREDICTIONS: We've got Lady Gaga's new one coming, but it's already slipping on streaming, so I have doubts it'll get stability. And 'Love Somebody' is already messing up on streaming to... Shaboozey really has a chance to retake No. 1. Apart from that, maybe Halsey, Megan Thee Stallion, or Tyler,The Creator, will have a new entry from their new album's. I can't see anything else unless I've missed it. Take care 🙂
