November 27, 2024Nov 27 Author Shaboozey’s ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’ Rules Billboard Hot 100 for Record-Tying 19th Week By Gary Trust | 11/25/2024 The smash matches the reign of Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road," featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, in 2019.Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” claims a record-equaling 19th week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Over the chart’s 66-year history, the song is now tied for the longest reign with Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” (featuring Billy Ray Cyrus), which dominated for 19 weeks in 2019. “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” became Shaboozey’s first Hot 100 leader in July. It has also ruled the Hot Country Songs chart (for 23 weeks and counting), Country Airplay, Pop Airplay and Adult Pop Airplay, among other surveys. A fan of multiple musical styles upon discovering music, Shaboozey “found country to be the thing that resonated with me in a really strong way,” he shared for a recent Billboard cover story. “Me being from Virginia, me loving the style and the way of life and the things they talked about … it all seemed very peaceful. It seemed like I could be real. I found country music could teach people that the little things in life are where the value is. Just having a working truck that you can take your girl in to ride to a cliff and watch the sunset is enough.” “I love hip-hop; I’m a part of their community, too,” Shaboozey added, with “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” having reworked J-Kwon’s 2004 hit “Tipsy.” “That’s what I want to do with my music: be disruptive and show people that music is progressing.” “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” on American Dogwood/EMPIRE (with country radio promotion by Magnolia Music), totaled 69.5 million radio airplay audience impressions (essentially even week-over-week), 19.6 million official streams (down 2%) and 8,000 sold (up 40%) in the United States Nov. 15-21. Boosting its profile during the tracking week, Shaboozey performed the song, in a medley with his newer single “Highway,” on the 58th Annual Country Music Association (CMA) Awards Nov. 20. (The ceremony aired live on ABC and was made available for streaming on Hulu the following day.) “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” was also discounted to 69 cents in the iTunes Store during the week. The track holds for a 17th week at No. 1 on the Radio Songs chart; slips 2-4 after 14 weeks atop Digital Song Sales; and holds at No. 5 following nine weeks ruling Streaming Songs. (It has led the Hot 100 and Radio Songs simultaneously for a record-extending 16 weeks, nonconsecutively.) “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” additionally extends the longest rule this year, 23 weeks, on the multimetric Hot Country Songs chart. Says Hubbard Broadcasting Seattle operations manager and KPNW program director Scott Mahalick, the party anthem has become entrenched in the genre “because Shaboozey is so passionate about country music. At the end of the day, it’s an upbeat record that is fun and nonpolitical. The listeners have spoken – they love it.” Below is a recap of the five longest-leading Hot 100 No. 1s, of 1,175 total leaders dating to the chart’s Aug. 4, 1958, start. (All five have led since the list adopted electronically-monitored Luminate data in November 1991, at which point longer commands than before subsequently became more common.) 19 weeks (to date), “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” Shaboozey, 2024 19, “Old Town Road,” Lil Nas X feat. Billy Ray Cyrus, 2019 16, “Last Night,” Morgan Wallen, 2023 16, “Despacito,” Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee feat. Justin Bieber, 2017 16, “One Sweet Day,” Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men, 1995-96 Rest of the Top 10: ‘Die With a Smile’ & More Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ “Die With a Smile” holds for a fourth week at its No. 2 Hot 100 high. During the tracking week, instrumental acoustic and sped-up versions were released (Nov. 20), with all versions discounted to 69 cents in the iTunes Store. (Along with its original version, acoustic, instrumental and “Live in Las Vegas” mixes were released prior to the latest tracking period.) Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” holds at No. 3 on the Hot 100, after reaching No. 2. It leads the multimetric Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Alternative Songs charts for a 16th week each. Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control,” which topped the Hot 100 for a week in March, rises 5-4. It one-ups The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber’s 2021 hit “Stay” for the second-most weeks (45) logged in the top 10 all-time; only The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” (57 weeks, 2020-21) has spent more time in the tier. Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” retreats 4-5 on the Hot 100, after hitting No. 3, while her “Taste” keeps at No. 8, after it debuted at its No. 2 high. Gracie Abrams’ “That’s So True” holds at its No. 6 Hot 100 high, as it leads Streaming Songs for a second week (22.8 million streams, down 3%). Post Malone’s “I Had Some Help,” featuring Morgan Wallen, is steady at No. 7 on the Hot 100, following six weeks at No. 1 beginning upon its debut in May. Rounding out the Hot 100’s top 10, Benson Boone’s No. 2-peaking “Beautiful Things” is a non-mover at No. 9, as is Wallen’s “Love Somebody” at No. 10, after it debuted at No. 1 earlier in November.
November 27, 2024Nov 27 US HOT 100 SUMMARY & REVIEW 26.11.24 #9 THE TOP 10: At 10, 'Love Somebody' by Morgan Wallen stays put; also staying put at 9 is 'Beautiful Things' by Benson Boone. 'Taste' sticks at 8 for Sabrina, and 'I Had Some Help' is still at 7 for Post Malone and Morgan Wallen! 'That's So True' remains at 6 for Gracie Abrams, and 'Espresso' by Sabrina Carpenter dips a spot to 5. 'Lose Control' spends its 67th charting week up a spot to 4 for Teddy Swims. 'Birds Of A Feather' lands Billie Eilish another week at 3, just above that 'Die With A Smile' stabilises for Gaga and Mars, and grabbing his 19th week atop the billboard Hot 100 And 32nd week charting is 'A Bar Song (Tipsy)' by Shaboozey, which becomes the joint longest running US no. 1 in the charts 66-year history. If he gets next week's no. 1, he'll pass 'Old Town Road' by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus to become the first ever song to get 20 weeks no. 1 and to break the tie! NEW ENTRYS: 97 - Neon Moon - Brooks And Dunn/Morgan Wallen (6.5/10) 'Neon Moon' is a heartbreak country song that is a new version of the 1992 song 'Neon Moon' by Brooks & Dunn. Morgan's atmosphere intertwines with BAD (Brooks & Dunn) nicely, and they both complement each other's vocals. The piano and guitar fit well into the backing structure for the song and add to the traditional country vibe. It's raspy, has character, and as a fan of Morgan Wallen, this team-up does not disappoint! 96: Dejame Entrar - Rauw Alejandro (5/10) 88: Revolu - Rauw Alejandro/Feid (5/10) 82- Se Fue - Rauw Alejandro/Laura Pausini (6/10) 71: Good News: Shaboozey (7/10) Previous first listen: Love to see a more chilled take from Shaboozey while managing to keep a groove that Its stuck in your brain. Shaboozey continues his country songs while adding the amount of time he spends singing a pitch and the way he sings the chorus to really make a noteable difference on this song! The delivery and the emotional touch on the song make this good for any occasion! Really good song! 69, Tu Con El - Rauw Alejandro (6.5/10) 68 AGATS2 (Insecure) - Juice WRLD/Nicki Minaj (5.5/10) Previous first listen: I felt Nicki was cut out more and they could've bonded better, and also that the beat sounded like a quick mix rather than taking the time into the track; it's still not bad though. Previous second listen: 'AGATS2' has backing vocals from Halsey, which add to the song, and the emo side with Nicki Minaj really shows Juice's stronger sides, although this feels like it doesn't show something new or something that brings in new listeners. Juice has 1000s of unreleased songs; his record label could have chosen better. Added: Yeah, once again, I just have the same view on this. 60 - Khe? - Rauw Alejandro/Romeo Santos (6/10) 56: Insecurities - Lil Baby (5/10) Previous first listen: Despite me having my daily dose of autotuned rap rubbish, this is actually decent, surprisingly!! I think the actual sound and the fact that it didn't use the 'boom bap' beat saved the song. What a weird surprise. You get the pass this time, Lil Baby, but this still isn't good. 53: Running Wild - Jin (4/10) Previous first listen: Jin poorly attempts to try and create a song that he thinks will be a western hit; on certain lines he sounds like he's nervous and gives the completely wrong energy. This K pop-rock single is produced by Gary Barlow; I personally don't get how Gary could produce something so Bar-low quality. They add unnecessary autotune to Jin's voice that doesn't even mend the track! Added: Every time I listen to this with the music video, I can't help but think, "How can people actually like this?" 41 - 2 Hands - Tate Mcrae (5/10) Previous first listen: This wasn't bad, but it didn't have the infectious mood that 'It's ok, I'm ok' gave; instead, it fell flat and felt like a weak second song announcement for her upcoming album, which was announced to come out on February 21st, 2025, called 'So close to what,' but '2 Hands' has a beat very similar throughout and lacks the fun, pop era. This is supposed to be bouncy and fun but comes across in a tired way. I don't have much for this; accept that it needs a boost and that this isn't it. It's plain and boring. 34 - Que Pasaria... - Rauw Alejandro/Bad Bunny (5/10) Previous first listen: 'Que Pasaria...' features on Rauw's new album and is a Spanish pop song with Bad Bunny. This for me isn't memorable, but I respect how they are not continuing along the traditional reggaeton and Latin routes that get boring and instead aim for something new; instead, they give their song a pulse that goes outside of the genre's roots. RE ENTRYS: 74. The Emptiness Machine - Linkin Park [Love this! Highlight of 2024] 48: A Holly Jolly Christmas—Burl Ives [Overrated] 47: It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year - Andy Williams [Overrated to] 23. Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree - Brenda Lee [best Christmas song ever] 16: All I Want For Christmas Is You - Mariah Carey [i'm so sick of this.] NOTEABLE CHANGES: Songs that fell over 10 spots: Balloon: Tyler, The Creator/Doechii (Down 10) New Drop: Don Toliver (Down 12) 28: Zach Bryan (Down 23) [HIGHEST FALLER] El Lokeron-Tito Double P (Down 16) La Patrulla: Peso Pluma/Neton Vega (Down 14) Noid: Tyler, The Creator (Down 19) Shake Dat A** (T**** Song) - BossMan Dlow (Down 12) Thought I Was Dead - Tyler, The Creator/ScHoolboyQ/Santigold Rah Tah Tah—Tyler, The Creator (Down 22) Dos Dias: Tito Double P/Peso Pluma (Down 13) Darling I - Tyler, The Creator/Teezo Touchdown (Down 14) High Road: Zach Bryan (Down 22) You Look Like You Love Me—Ella Langley/Riley Green (Down 11) St. Chroma: Tyler, The Creator/Daniel Caeser (Down 14) Songs that climbed over 10 spots: 4x4xU: Lainey Wilson (up 17) Liar: Jelly Roll (up 12) It's Ok I'm Ok—Tate Mcrae (up 11) Like Him: Tyler, The Creator/Lola Young (up 11) Last Christmas: Wham (Up 14) No One Noticed: The Marias (up 40) [HIGHEST CLIMBER] BEST TO WORSTS: New entrys: BEST: Good News: Shaboozey 2nd: Neon Moon-Brooks And Dunn/Morgan Wallen 3rd: All the New Rauw Alejandro Songs 4th: AGATS2 (Insecure) - Juice WRLD/Nicki Minaj 5th: 2 Hands-Tate Mcrae 6th - Insecurities - Lil Baby WORST: Running Wild - Jin The whole top 100: BEST: 'The Door' - Teddy Swims WORST: 'No One Noticed' - The Marias NEXT WEEKS PREDICTIONS: Apart from the yearly top 10 Christmas flood (which might not actually happen next week), we have Kendrick Lamar's surprise album drop, 'Gnx,' which has 12 tracks that seem to be getting a buzz right now. I suspect that next week it'll be a tight race to see if Christmas songs will go top 10 or if Shaboozey can even hold no. 1 ('Die With A Smile' is close to catching that song to). Apart from that, Wizkid has a new album, which could possibly see some new entries. Also, a few foreign artists, such as Manuel Torizo and Quevedo, have dropped albums, which could also possibly make an entry. For the singles releases, expect Ariane Grande, Rosé, Jack Harlow, and possibly Lil Nas X, Tyla, and Jelly Roll (if he's lucky). EXTRA: Sometimes I may skip songs if there is part of a charting album that has a few tracks in the top 100. (Instead, I'll cover the highest chatting entry from the album, or if there's a super high, then the highest.) Peace ✌️
