Hi Lewis, my top favourites to appear since I last commented are:

61. Charli xcx - Talk talk (fair that you much prefer this to the remix, I get your reasoning, I did chart this in both forms anyway so am here for some original appreciation too :music:)

56. Charli xcx - 360 (yes so annoying that this just missed out on a top 10 peak officially </3 the video is a highlight as well)

53. Ariana Grande - eternal sunshine (I was particularly looking forward to this one for the film references and it did not disappoint, her vocals sound gorgeous on the chorus also)

46. Charli xcx - Girl, so confusing (wow preferring the original to the Lorde version is a pretty unpopular opinion but I respect your truth  love the vulnerability of the lyrics)

41. Chappell Roan - HOT TO GO! (this went over my head a bit on first listen but was a huge grower for me as well, so much fun and I love the new wave-style production)

'HOT TO GO!' is my favourite from Chappell that I've heard, the synthy production is great and the bridge and chorus are fun - despite a long chart run, I couldn't tire of it.

Very similar positions for toxic till the end for us both indeed! Such a brilliant song, a pleasant surprise when the album came out

I know my opinion on 'Girl, so confusing' is definitely unpopular  I definitely understand why the remix is so loved though. It's an amazing concept and the lyrics are very vulnerable.

I'm with you Jim. 'HOT TO GO!'s is my favourite from Chappell too!

'toxic till the end' was a lovely treat to end the year.

Thank you everyone :D

Again it feels necessary preface this with a discussion surrounding controversy. This is the song from the mixtape that caused some heat for a perceived 'transphobic' lyric. Personally, I don't think the lyric is transphobic or that Cole holds any discriminatory views, it's more of a play on the homonym nature of the word 'pussy'. However, I'm still pretty disappointed with it's inclusion in the song. I think with how the culture currently is and the disproportionate amount of media 'discussion' and hate directed towards the community, I think having this lyric, even though I don't think it's particularly negative in itself, it just fuels the fire for the worst bunch of people to pile-on with their hatred and bring this up as an example of something they think is supporting them. I didn't really plan on getting that deep with this but I think it needs to be mentioned. I also fully support anyone who disagrees and thinks it is hurtful.

What makes it even more disappointing is, aside from that one line, this song is absolute top-tier rapping with some of the most dense and hard-hitting verses in a long-time. Daylyt and Ab-Soul absolutely kill it in their back-and-forth verse and completely left me in awe on my first listen. You don't think Cole has a chance of keeping the same quality but then he comes through with some of the best wordplays of his career in an equally considered verse that sounds hungrier than anything he's recorded in quite a while (the karate scheme ending in 'sins say/sensei' is inspired). This is the second #1 hit from my weekly charts to drop-out but the first with a completed run so I think it's safe to call it my least favourite #1 hit of the year.

Shy Smith bags herself an EOY top 40 hit her 2021 track 'Soaked' to gained some traction after going viral on TikTok. I don't have an account so I only heard it after it debuted in the official chart where I was instantly swept in by it's old-school 2000s vibes. I was really rooting for this to make the top 40 but it never seemed to get the boost it needed. I do think the vocals in the chorus are a bit weird but it works and I love her slight-rapping style of performing the verses. She looks great in the video and shows some solid star potential but she doesn't seem to have too much of an online presence. Neither song or artist even have a Wikipedia page so it feels very likely that she will end up a one-hit wonder in my charts. But what a hit it is.

The 2nd official #1 hit to drop and the first of four Sabrina songs in the top 40, 'Please Please Please' was her second song to top the official charts but couldn't quite manage to do the same in my chart. It didn't have the most impressive run in my chart (landing at #54 in my points chart) but thanks to the album, it was my 4th most played song of last year so deserved a top 40 placement. The video, picking off straight from the conclusion of 'Espresso', stars her then boyfriend, Barry Keoghan in a move that always felt like it would end in disaster, especially with the subject matter of the song. It's a country-inspired pop song, in the vein of her earlier 'Lonesome' and was very helped by the iconic 'motherf*cker' (and equally iconic delivery of said word). This year, Sabrina has proved that she really knows what she's doing and I'm here for all of it.

This was my initial favourite from the album and while it has now dropped out as the third highest track, it's still an impressive result for an album track. I've never really been able to get into Florence before so I was not expecting to love this one as much as I do. Florence sounds equitize here and she blends in so well with Taylor in their harmonies. I do think it's time for Taylor to start working with a few new producers because it starting to sound a bit samey but I'll give Jack Antonoff his credit here, this one is produced brilliantly and helps set the dramatic, larger-than-life mood of the song.

2024 36 Moonlit Floor

The first of LISA's three 2024 singles to appear, 'Moonlit Floor' was the only one to miss both top spot in my chart and the official top 100. Based upon a large interpolation of Sixpence None the Richer's 'Kiss Me', it was originally co-written by and for Jessie Reyez but was later pitched for LISA after they couldn't get the sample cleared in time for Reyez's album. Despite missing my #1, this has help up really well for me and has done it's job in making me very excited for the upcoming album. It's a very sweet song and is a nice change of pace from her usual confident, brash style.

Addison Rae's EOY History:

2023 52 It Could've Been U

2023 91 I Got It Bad

2024 35 Diet Pepsi

Addison Rae won me over last year with her slight-but-fun EP 'AR' and this boosted her enough to receive a #1 debut in my charts with 'Diet Pepsi'. I felt like there was good buzz around this and I thought it could have managed to sneak in the official charts but it didn't in it's opening week and I thought it's chance had gone. But it slowly started to gain in popularity and eventually gained a top 10 peak in one of my favourite chart moments of last year. It's hard not to hear the Lana Del Rey parallels in this one but with a catchier hook which drew me in more than with most of Lana's releases. I, personally, thought the follow-up, 'Aquamarine' was a bit weak in comparison but I'm still very excited to hear what she has up her sleeve next. I've just read that it's Jason from Pretty Little Liars in the video with her, I certainly didn't recognise him :o

2023 98 The Way Things Go

2024 34 Ever Seen

The first of two beabadoobee songs in my top 100 after 'Real Man' missed out at #101 (with it blowing up on Spotify now, I might regret it leaving it out). This is a great result for Bea after her only previous EOY placement was 'The Way Things Go' sneaking in last year. I remember listening to 'Ever Seen' when it was released as a pre-album single and not thinking much of it. But then, after already listening to the album on repeat for a few weeks, it suddenly hit me out of nowhere on a random listen-through. I thought 'Glue Song' was sweet, but this is an almost painfully cute and sugary track with Bea's soft vocals making it even more impactful. The music video is perfect for the song too with the camera being almost stuck on her face being from her boyfriend's (Jake Erland, the director) perspective (à la 'Peep Show').

Just like with all the Taylor songs in this list (despite 'Florida!!!), the majority of 'Fortnight's run in my chart came after my Eras Tour date where it shot all the way into my top 3 after previously peaking at #15. The black-and-white music video starring Malone and 'Dead Poet's Soceity' alumni Ethan Hawke and Josh Charles, sees Taylor don face tattoos in the style of Post Malone as they stare as star-crossed lovers with surprisingly strong chemistry. I can see why a lot of people found this one boring, it doesn't really go anywhere, choosing to remain at the same tempo pretty much throughout but I think it has a really strong melody that shines through and sounded especially brilliant live. With her British pronunciation of 'anti' in 'Anti-Hero' and using the word 'fortnight', I think can see the lasting influence of Taylor dating Joe Alwyn. Remarkably, Taylor has only ever had one song reach my EOY Top 10, 'Bad Blood' at #10 in 2015, (less remarkably, the same goes for Post Malone), but with one song to go, can she finally bad herself another top 10 finish and a new peak in the process?

When Kendrick surprised-dropped his 6th studio album 'GNX' in November, the first track we all heard was it's opener 'wacced out murals' and wow. This is the best production of the year, the track has a sense of genuine menace in it's produced and it sets the tone instantaneously before Kendrick has even begun spitting. He doesn't let up either with a delivery that's both blasé and threatening. This track is a mood piece and I wish we got a whole project with this energy. I like what we got but a full album of this would have been something incredibly special. Amongst the seven credited producers is Jack Antonoff so I guess I have to give him his props again

The stand-out track from Tyler's latest album was the Teezo Touchdown assisted 'Darling, I'. I don't even think I would say that it's the 'best' song on the album but it's the nicest to listen to which helps in making it the one to seek out outside of the full album. The chorus is so slick with Tyler and Teezo complimenting each other really well. It feels the most 'Igor'-sounding track on the album and that album's near perfect so that's a very good thing. Tyler's struggles with monogamy is well covered ground at this point but when it's delivered this smoothly then who cares? I'm very interested to see what he does with his one in his upcoming tour.

Jade's EOY History:

JADE and Perrie both bagged themselves a #1 hit in my charts last year but it's Perrie that's won the way with JADE's 'Angel Of My Dreams' dropping out at #30. JADE was always my favourite member of Little Mix and her debut was the one I was most-highly anticipating. And when we we're eventually blessed with it, it got off to a brilliant start, holding off another track released on the same that's yet to appear for 2 weeks before eventually succumbing it's spot. For an introductory single for her as a solo artist, it's an admirably adventurous track with elements of different genres and unlike anything released by Little Mix. My one complaint with this is that I find the music video to be almost unwatchable with the constant screams and loud-noises over the music. I can neither confirm or deny the rumours that Jade will be doubling her #1 tally in my chart come Wednesday.

Yuna's EOY History:

2024 29 Yet, But

The fifth and final solo release from ITZY members is Yuna's 'yet, but' landing at #29. We had a fun moment at the start of the year where my first two #1 hits were called 'yet, but' and 'yes, and?' I said earlier that Lia used to be my favourite member before she went on a break from the group, but during her absence Yuna has definitely taken her spot with this song playing a huge part in why. This would probably be considered by critics to be the worst of the solo tracks but it's pure bubble-gum and I love it! Who doesn't love a random Pokemon reference in a music video? It's so pink, so princess (yeah, I'm using that as an adjective) and so fun. 2023 was the year of 'Barbie' but this embodies the concept more than any song from that film's soundtrack. Talking about the track Yuna said "I wanted to make it a song that made people happy. I wanted to create a song that would bring smiles and brighten people’s day as they listen. [...] If you smiled at least once listening to this song, I think that’s enough for me" and all I can say is that I certainly did! Final reminder that all of the music videos for the ITZY solo tracks are only for half of the song.

Who knew that for Em to find the best track on his new album, he would have to go back to a scrapped song from his word album, 2004's 'Encore'. Originally record and titled 'Christopher Reeves', this was removed from that album after Reeve (correct spelling) died the month before it's release. Although parts have been changed (a new bridge has been added), it does sound like a relic from the past but it works well on an album so focused on legacy and provides all the nostalgia for someone who grew up on Em's music. Over the past couple of days, the original version of this has leaked and it's interesting to hear what's changed (the line which is now about Caitlyn Jenner originally referenced to his 8 Mile co-star Brittany Murphy). The production on this is odd, to say the least, and I know it does put some people off but I really enjoy it. It's a devilish track naming a dance after the wheelchair-bound Superman actor but 20 years on from his passing, it feels more like a tribute than a troll.

Both my final #1 hit of 2023 and the first #1 hit of 2024, 'Wifey Riddim 4' was AJ's 5th chart-topper but the first of his 'Wifey Riddim' series to make my charts. Releasing in December can often hurt your placement in these EOY charts but I'm quite happy with where this has landed. With the production being based around a pitched sample of Lous and The Yakuza's 'Interpol', AJ makes spits some Japanese and anime influenced verses months before Megan Thee Stallion similarly inspired track. The hook's vibey, the verses are wavy and the production is clean. AJ is in his bag as of late and nobody else can touch this sound.

Charli's first step in her successful plan for world domination in 2024 started with the release of BRAT lead single 'Von dutch'. For the first thing anyone hears of your new project to be the line 'It's okay to just admit that you're jealous of me' is a pretty ballsy choice but perfectly embodies the vibe of this era. That drop from #1 to #8 in it's second week looks harsh but 'Von dutch' did the most perilous thing any #1 hit can do in my chart and reach top spot in the week before an Ariana Grande album is released. Strip out the Ariana tracks and it only dropped to #2. It's run after that is much more reflective of how much I appreciated it. It's actually a song that's held up really well for me and I'm enjoying it more now than ever. It was definitely iconic-ly performed on the tour too.

With three of BLACKPINK releasing solo tracks last year, this is the first 'lead' single from the three to drop-out and it comes from LISA. I wouldn't worry for her too much though as she still has another song to come. This one feels like classic BLACKPINK with the Hip-Hop sounding beat and feels like a merging of her debut solo singles 'Lalisa' and 'Money'. 'Rockstar' is braggadocios to the max and allows Lisa talents in rapping and dancing both to shine. She really is the definition of stage presence and star quality and it's impossible to take your eyes off her in the video. Somehow LISA is the only member of BLACKPINK that does not have a solo top 40 hit which is unbelievable as she seems to be the most popular. I hope that can change when the album is released next month.
