Posted December 11, 2024Dec 11 8th December 2024 It's a massive chart clear-out as Reverend & The Makers go back on top with the very christmassy (but without bells and the like) Late Night Phone Call, holding Moby's revamp at 2. Left To My Own Devices gets a 3rd top 10 run, and Bakermat gives Gladys Knight her first top 10 on a new track (albeit not a new recording) since, ooh, Licence To Kill 35 years ago. Meanwhile, 2024 is 60 years on from The Beatles conquering the USA and there's a film and reactivated I Want To Hold Your Hand new at 17, the third-time round for the childhood single - one of the first singles dad bought, but I wasn't doing personal charts then or else it would have been a former number 1, but it is merely a top 10 single post-1968. I just found out Tavares lead-singer passed away earlier this year, Arthur "pooch" Tavares, the family group had a string of fab disco hits, so the best 2 return in tribute, Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel for a third run. If there's one of the annual christmas chart returnees that can make me go all sentimental when I hear it, that one is Chris Rea - and Driving Home For Christmas charts most years for me. Back at 48. Pet Shop Boys have a special edition version of Nonetheless out, and 2 of those extra tracks pop in, one of them is a 2-minute version of the classical piece Miserere which they ended the album on, in shortened form. Too many new entries to mention them all, so I'll just note Simple Minds add to their run of recent great singles, Chappell Roan finally charts HOT TO GO, which is sort of a mash-up of the 60's Batman theme and Toni Basil/Racey's Mickey/Kitty, her 4th track, Gwen Stefani makes it 2 on the chart with christmas options still possible, Chesney Hawkes ditto, minus christmas, and Mary J. Blige also makes it two in 2024. Yes I got xmas wrapped up after I got to GC and have been sightseeing and days out in rain or sunshine or wind, and pub quizzes for the evening :D PSB's Dudes, let's be honest, is more of a pleasant linked boost for New London Boy as the lyrics of that one are not necessarily relate-able on a low-key track that one, but people like me of a certain vintage (and there's loads of us in the pub here :lol: ) will enjoy hearing the Bowie song again - but it's nowhere near as great as the original. :) I didn't know Dark End was a cover!! Don't Take Away The Music also my fave of theirs back in the day, I need to hear a decent upgraded copy I think. Yes, I was disappointed The Jackson Sisters weren't related to The Jacksons :lol: The original Bon Jovi is the best yes, in fact it's doing better than the cover over here, so job done! :lol: Glad you like the BJSC tracks, and HOT TO GO is ridiculously catchy - not just Ting Tings-able, but also the 60's Batman rhythm track is in the mix too.
