March 26Mar 26 Author Kendrick Lamar & SZA’s ‘Luther’ Leads Hot 100, Playboi Carti, Chappell Roan & Doechii New in Top 10By Gary Trust | 3/24/2025Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “Luther” leads the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart for a fifth total and consecutive week. The single, whose title is a tribute to late R&B icon Luther Vandross, who is sampled on the track, became Lamar’s sixth No. 1 and SZA’s third. Both Lamar and SZA extend their longest career Hot 100 reigns with the song.Playboi Carti debuts two songs in the Hot 100’s top five: “Evil J0rdan,” at No. 2, and “Rather Lie,” with The Weeknd, at No. 4. The tracks are from his new album, MUSIC, which soars in at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.Plus, Chappell Roan’s “The Giver” launches at No. 5 on the Hot 100, and as her first No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart, and Doechii’s “Anxiety” rises three spots to No. 10 on the Hot 100, becoming her first top 10.“Luther,” on pgLang/Interscope/ICLG, totaled 56.2 million radio airplay audience impressions (up 1% week-over-week), 27.9 million official streams (down 11%) and 3,000 sold (up 12%) in the U.S. March 14-20.The track holds at its No. 2 high on the Radio Songs chart; slips to No. 3 after four weeks atop Streaming Songs; and rebounds 17-10, after reaching No. 4, on Digital Song Sales.“Luther” concurrently adds a 13th week at No. 1 on both the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts, which use the same methodology as the Hot 100.Playboi Carti debuts two songs in the Hot 100’s top five: “Evil J0rdan,” at No. 2, and “Rather Lie,” with The Weeknd, at No. 4. The tracks are from the rapper’s new album, MUSIC, which bounds in at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 298,000 equivalent album units, becoming his second leader.Playboi Carti ups his career total to seven Hot 100 top 10s, and charts concurrent top 10s for the first time. The Weeknd adds his 20th top 10 (becoming the 27th act to reach the milestone in the chart’s 66-year history).“Evil J0rdan” and “Rather Lie” open with 30.8 million and 26.6 million streams, respectively, with the former also arriving as Playboi Carti’s third Streaming Songs No. 1.Chappell Roan’s “The Giver” roars onto the Hot 100 at No. 5. Released March 13, it debuts with 22.3 million streams, 2.2 million in radio reach and 6,000 sold March 14-20.The singer-songwriter scores her third Hot 100 top 10, following “Good Luck, Babe!,” which hit No. 4 last September and “Pink Pony Club,” which reached No. 7 a week ago; it ranks at No. 9 on the latest list. “The Giver” marks her first top 10 (or even top 40) debut.Given the sonic turn of “The Giver” from Chappell Roan’s budding catalog of pop offerings, the track debuts at No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart, marking her first appearance on the ranking. (Of the song’s airplay in the tracking week, 20% was from reporters toBillboard’s Country Airplay chart; it debuts at No. 33 on the Adult Pop Airplay chart and is bubbling under Pop Airplay and Country Airplay.) She is just third woman to debut a first Hot Country Songs entry at No. 1, after Beyoncé, with “Texas Hold ‘Em” (2024), and Bebe Rexha, with “Meant To Be,” with Florida Georgia Line (2017). (The latter went on to reign for a record 50 weeks.)“I have such a special place in my heart for country music,” the Missouri native mused on Instagram March 4. “I grew up listening to it every morning and afternoon on my school bus and had it swirling around me at bonfires, grocery stores and karaoke bars … I am just here to twirl and do a little gay yodel for yall.”Doechii’s “Anxiety” ascends three spots to No. 10 on the Hot 100, becoming her first top 10. It drew 21.4 million streams (up 4%), 4.8 million in airplay audience (up 479%) and 11,000 downloads sold (up 101%) in the tracking week. It also becomes her first leader (4-1) on Digital Song Sales. The song by the rapper/singer – who is set to be honored with the 2025 Woman of the Year award at the annual Billboard Women in Music celebration March 29 – was released in 2019.Notably, “Anxiety” prominently samples Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know” (featuring Kimbra), which crowned the Hot 100 for eight weeks in 2012. (That hit drew 5 million streams and 4.9 million in airplay audience in the latest tracking frame.)Elsewhere in the Hot 100’s top 10, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ “Die With a Smile” dips 2-3, following five nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 beginning in January. It notches a seventh week atop Radio Songs (63.9 million, up 2%).Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” drops 4-6 on the Hot 100, following its record-tying 19 weeks at No. 1 beginning last July.Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” rebounds 9-7 on the Hot 100, after reaching No. 2. It tops the multimetric Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Alternative Songs charts for a 33rd week each.Plus, Lamar’s “Not Like Us” descends 3-8 on the Hot 100, following three weeks at No. 1 between last May and February.
March 26Mar 26 8 hours ago, Riser said:99 70 59 28 Megan Moroney ‒ Am I Okay?(Oh hey 'quote section', what a neat feature)I know the answer is radio, but the extent to which it's possible to skirt the recurrency rules by way of a glacial uptick in audience is getting really out of hand. And Billboard bases their End Of Year charts solely around these accumulated weeks, where a few extra weeks can jump you up dozens of spots!Funny to think also that Billboard enacted the change to the rules re: 52 weeks when there were just 3 songs mildly flaunting it ("Uptown Funk", "Shut Up and Dance", "Thinking Out Loud" all between #36-#45 with 50something weeks), they're on the cusp of having about 8-9 songs on 52+ weeks while within the top 25, wonder what it'd take for them to change the rules again. Ironically, tightening it up just creates less competition and thus more songs able to go on such runs.
March 26Mar 26 US HOT 100 SUMMARY AND REVIEW 25.03.25 #25 THE TOP TEN: Doechii's 'Anxiety' heads the top ten for the first time as 'Pink Pony Club' (at 9) and 'Not Like Us' (at 8) get pushed down due to the Carti album bomb. 'Birds Of A Feather' pulls up to 7 as 'A Bar Song (Tipsy)' declines to 6. Chappell Roan's country crossover song 'The Giver' is new at 5, as Carti and The Weeknd celebrate another joint top ten with 'Rather Lie' at 4. Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars have 'Die With A Smile' slip to 3 due to Carti's 'Evil Jordan' entering at 2. And taking the number one for its 5th consecutive week while spending its 17th week in the chart is 'Luther' by Kendrick Lamar featuring SZA. NEW ENTRIES: 96. Walk – Playboi Carti (5/10) 88. South Atlanta Baby – Playboi Carti (4/10) 86. Overly – Playboi Carti (3/10) 85. Dis 1 got 1 – Playboi Carti (5/10) 80. C*Caine Nose – Playboi Carti (4/10) 75. Opm Babi – Playboi Carti (3.5/10) 71. We Need All Da Vibes – Playboi Carti/Young Thug/Ty Dolla $ign (3/10) 69. Munyun - Playboi Carti (4/10) 65. Olympian – Playboi Carti (3/10) 58. Twin Trim – Playboi Carti/Lil Uzi Vert (3.5/10) 57. Emergence – Sleep Token (5.5/10) Previous listen: I really can't see what separates this song from others and makes it amazing. Added: It's just a dull rock song that doesn't showcase the band's full potential; it needs more of a pick-up. 56. Like Weezy – Playboi Carti (1.8/10) 55. Crank – Playboi Carti (4/10) 54. I Seeeeeee You Baby Boi – Playboi Carti (4/10) 53. Jumpin – Playboi Carti/Lil Uzi Vert (3.5/10) 52. Wake Up F1lthy – Playboi Carti/Travis Scott (4/10) 49. Charge Dem H*es A Fee – Playboi Carti/Future/Travis Scott (3.8/10) 48. HBA – Playboi Carti (4.9/10) 46. Trim – Playboi Carti/Future (3/10) 45. Dark Thoughts – Lil Tecca (5.5/10) Previous listen: The definition of boring. Added: I don't get the huge attention for this; the rap song features no ability to give a good hook. The beat is about the most I can applaud; it gives a summer feeling with different layers that don't complement the vocals but just lie beside them. Apart from that, it's autotuned rap that has a reason. I can see why people would enjoy it, but it's still not for me. 43. Radar – Playboi Carti (7.8/10) 41. Pop Out – Playboi Carti (8/10) 38. K Pop – Playboi Carti (8/10) 34. Toxic – Playboi Carti/Skepta (6/10) 33. Fine S*** – Playboi Carti (4.1/10) 28. Philly – Playboi Carti/Travis Scott (8/10) 27. Mojo Jojo - Playboi Carti (7.2/10) 25. Backd00r – Playboi Carti/Kendrick Lamar/Jhene Aiko (6.3/10) 20. Crush – Playboi Carti/Travis Scott (8/10) 17. Good Credit – Playboi Carti/Kendrick Lamar (8/10) With an uncredited Kendrick Lamar feature, Good Credit is off his long-awaited 'I Am Music' album, and I can't even lie, the Kendrick verses carry. Kendrick's flow is a lot more catchy and feels more naturally strong. Carti does deliver a good verse, though. The gritty trap/rap beats are really giving the centre of what rap is, and that makes the song a lot better. I think this definitely has potential! 5. The Giver – Chappell Roan (1/10) In this song, "The Giver", Chappell Roan is in it, and in this case, she has given us a pile of steamy hot garbage. The Giver represents the pop-to-country crossover that nobody wanted; the lyrics follow the same cringe copy and paste from Chappell's other songs, where she tries to spread the message about how a country boy doesn't know how to treat a woman right and only a woman knows how to treat a woman right, if only she didn't put this message across without sounding like she's Nikocado Avocado at a pride parade. The production here really resembles basic country music that poorly gives across her fun energy and instead feels forced. Please don't lean into this era, Chappell. 4. Rather Lie – Playboi Carti/The Weeknd (7/10) 2. Evil J0rdan – Playboi Carti (8.5/10) After listening to six songs on the new Carti album, I was uninterested to hear the full thing; the best I heard was the Kendrick feature on 'Good Credit'. But I see the hype on this because it totally matches that song. This starts with a near one-minute trap beat before going into a verse Carti made on 'Popular' and turning it into one of the cleanest transitions I've heard in a while. This then went into Carti rapping; the flow was mostly up to standard, although some lines felt like they could've flowed better. It all felt pretty raw and straight up, though, which I liked.
