Arctics to headline Glastonbury

BBC Entertainment News

The Arctic Monkeys and Bjork are the first major acts to be confirmed for this year's Glastonbury music festival.

The Arctic Monkeys will headline the main Pyramid Stage during the event on Michael Eavis' Somerset farm in June.

"Most of the line-up's done now," Mr Eavis told BBC 6Music, adding that the "biggest band in the world" had also contacted him about performing.

But he denied it was U2 or Coldplay. "You won't know until after 1 April", when tickets go on sale, he said.

Fans will be able to pre-register for tickets during February by filling in a form online or from camping shop Millets.

They will also have to submit a photograph, which will be printed on their tickets in an attempt to beat touts.

"That's called pre-registration exercise," Mr Eavis said. "From 1 April at 9am, the phone lines open for ticket sales.

"The first 150,000 people that come through that will be booked in. We'll already have the information on those people, their pre-registration forms and photos, so they can't sell those tickets on."

Co-organiser Emily Eavis told the BBC News website: "We're absolutely thrilled to be able to put Bjork and the Arctic Monkeys on because both are firm favourites in our household.

"The Arctic Monkeys have never done it so this will be their first year and Bjork has done the festival a few times now and is absolutely fantastic."

No date had been set to reveal the full line-up, but it would be "in the coming months", she added. But she refused to say which nights the Arctic Monkeys and Bjork will play.

Listen to the full Michael Eavis interview on BBC 6Music at 1300 GMT on Sunday.

So it has been confirmed!!!!

Arctic Monkeys have been confirmed alongside Bjork as headliners for the 2007 Glastonbury festival, according to co-organiser Emily Eavis:

She said:

"We're absolutely thrilled to be able to put Bjork and the Arctic Monkeys on because both are firm favourites in our household.

"The Arctic Monkeys have never done it so this will be their first year and Bjork has done the festival a few times now and is absolutely fantastic."

Arctic Monkeys drummer matt helders has already responded to comments made by Michael Eavis earlier in the week:

"Er, if Michael Eavis said it, well we must be (true) then," he observed. "I can't really confirm anything. Nothing gets announced until March, and though stuff leaks out they can always change it!"

"I rather let it slip that the Arctics were playing," Mr Eavis said today. "They’re a fantastic band and will be one of headline acts. I saw them a few years ago at the Brixton Academy and it was one of the best gigs I’ve ever been to. Everyone went ape."

So is it confirmed then or not?

Yep it is now. :P Bjork on the Friday, Arctics on the Saturday and The Who on the Sunday is my guess.

Yeah it must be :D

and for Download 2007 you have My Chemical Romance on Friday, Linkin Park on Saturday ( ) and Iron Maiden on Sunday :D

Reading & Leeds will still p*** on them both :P

Download doesn't really intrest me at all. Its not really the sort of music I like that play there. I know somebody who wants to go though, and he won't be pleased MCR are headlining let alone playing.

I dunno about Reading and Leeds. I generally don't like the headliners but I like the majority of the bands that play the NME/Radio 1 stage. :P If the line up is decent enough I may try and get tickets for Leeds this year. :o

I've made a pact with one of my brothers to definitely go this year at any cost

I hope to cross many bands off my long list after it! :cheer:

This is now also confirmed by the Arctic Monkeys themselves:

The Arctic Monkeys have confirmed they will be headlining Glastonbury this year.

The Sheffield band has been strongly rumoured to be playing the famous festival, and this morning they revealed to BBC Radio 1's Jo Whiley that they would be closing the Friday night.

When asked about the group's sleeping arrangements, singer Alex Turner laughed: “We’re going to stay in a wigwam. Maybe we could do the gig from there.â€

I guess so, but wasn't Bjork meant to be headlining the Pyramid stage at one stage?

Well they're playing Glastonbury tomorrow (I think) so what's everyone think the setlist is gonna be? :o

I think they'll play the whole of Favourite Worst Nightmare minus Only One Who Knows and possibly 505 (but I think they'd like to play that, but I guess it just depends on thinks) and then I think they'll play Dancerfloor, When The Sung Goes Down, A Certain Romance, Mardy Bum, From Ritz To Rubble and Fake Tales.

Does anyone know how long their set is gonna be?

The set list won't be a million miles from this one IMHO. They appear to be relaxing their attitude to encores. Anyway, it's on BBC2 tomorrrow at 11pm.

'The View From The Afternoon'

'Brianstorm'

'Still Take You Home'

'Dancing Shoes'

'From The Ritz To The Rubble'

'Teddy Picker'

'D is For Dangerous'

'This House Is a Circus'

'Fake Tales Of San Francisco'

'Balaclava'

'Old Yellow Bricks'

'You Probably Couldn't See For The Lights But You Were Staring Straight At Me'

'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor'

'If You Were There, Beware'

'Fluorescent Adolescent'

'Mardy Bum'

'Do Me A Favour'

'When the Sun Goes Down'

'Leave Before the Lights Come On'

ENCORE

'Plastic Tramp' Crikey!

'505'

'A Certain Romance'

That looks pretty much like it'll be to be honest. I don't think there'd be too many people complaining anyway if they went ahead with that list!
