Posted January 18, 200718 yr http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/6c/The_Prodigy_-01.jpg The Prodigy signs to the has-been heaven of Cooking Vinyl Records (with their own indie label Ragged Flag) to release their new album in Summer 07. now they are signed to a label that includes Gary Numan, Hanson, Cowboy Junkies, Stephen Duffy, the Bluetones, South, Seafood, Buzzcocks and Frank Black. Do you think this will be a successful partnership (Hanson got top ten remember), a new beginning for Cooking Vinyl? or do you think that The Prodigy's new records will end up in the 50 - 75 slot like most big releases on Cooking Vinyl???
January 18, 200718 yr The Prodigy have a bigger following than all of those acts, so I'm sure they'll do reasonably well. I don't understand it, they were on a decent label and the GH was a big seller, why did it come to this?
January 18, 200718 yr maybe they're sick of the c**p that goes with being on a major label? It surely has nothing to do with their marketability, which is still strong.
January 18, 200718 yr Author maybe they're sick of the c**p that goes with being on a major label? It surely has nothing to do with their marketability, which is still strong. they were not on a major label. the major labels are: Sony BMG EMI Universal Warner Music Group XL is part of Beggars Group alongside Matador, Wiiija and 4AD. one of the biggest 'indies' alongside Sanctuary its records go thru Vital and so qualify for indie charts. on the other hand Mute was bought by EMI and Zomba swallowed up by Sony BMG.
January 18, 200718 yr Wow, they were practically with XL since the start. Good to see a new album on the way, though.
January 20, 200718 yr Author Poor Label -_- then again if sanctuary collapse this year it might be the only indie heritage option
