Posted January 18, 200719 yr whats your thought on instrumental dronerock? do you think it would be much better with vocals (who should be recruted to sing then?) or do you like hearing stuff like this? http://www.myspace.com/flowersofhell Info The Flowers Of Hell are a London based 10 person collective encompassing side players for British Sea Power, The Tindersticks and The Early Years, with guest involvement from members of Death In Vegas and Spacemen 3. The group mix orchestral instruments with drones and twangy guitars, creating a sound which is reminiscent of The Velvet Underground & Nico and early Spiritualized, mixed with a classical twist. Produced by Tim Holmes of Death In Vegas at the Contino Rooms, their self titled debut album comes out in November 2006 on Earworm Records and follows a trio of releases for the Shifty Disco label’s singles club in 2005. Sonic Boom of Spacemen 3/Spectrum/E.A.R. collaborated with the group on ‘Through The F Hole’ and mentored the band during the recording of the album. For mastering, the group tracked down Denis Blackham who’s credits include Kraftwerk’s ‘Autobahn’ and classic releases from Elvis, The Who, Led Zeppelin, & T Rex. Earworm Records was formed in 1996 and has put out works from luminaries such as Spacemen 3, Yo La Tengo, The Earlies, Bright Eyes, The Hidden Cameras, The Clientele, Magnetophone, & Apples In Stereo. Earworm was the first label to release works by both Yo La Tengo and Bright Eyes. Notable shows over the past year have included supporting The Telescopes, supporting Slipstream (a Spacemen 3/Spiritualized spin off group), playing the ICA, having Jan Muchow of Ecstasy Of St Theresa sit in on bass for a Prague show, and playing a nuclear bomb shelter under a castle in Slovakia as part of an Eastern European tour done while warming up for recording the album. Other forthcoming releases from The Flowers Of Hell include an exerpt from Opt Out for Shifty Disco’s singles club on Nov 24th, 2006, a version of the Jesus & Mary Chain's 'Darklands' for Club AC30's Never Lose That Feeling covers compilation series, a track on Northern Star Records ‘Psychedelica 2’ compilation, and a track on a Ship Of The Damned Lazy Records compilation in the US.
