Intensive Care the biggest selling album in Europe :cheer:

James Blunt and Robbie Williams' albums have gone five-times platinum, say the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI). Blunt's debut album Back to Bedlam passed the five million mark across Europe and continues to sell well.

Williams also gained a fifth platinum level for European sales for his latest album Intensive Care.

The Rolling Stones, Katie Melua, Zucchero and Radiohead were the other artists to win Platinum Europe Awards.

Back to Bedlam propelled Blunt to stardom and earned him two Brit awards this year - best pop act and best male solo artist.

The former soldier released the album in October 2004 and it has gone nine-times platinum in the UK alone, where it was the best selling album of 2005.

Intensive Care is Williams' eighth studio album and was the biggest selling title in Europe last year, despite only being released in October.

It has sold in 19 countries, and mirrors the success of his 2004 Greatest Hits album which also passed the five million copy mark last month.

Radiohead's critically acclaimed third album OK Computer has now sold more than three million copies in Europe.

The album won a Grammy for best alternative album after its 1997 release, and often tops best ever album opinion polls.

Katie Melua's second album Piece By Piece equalled the European success of her debut Call Off The Search by selling more than two million copies.

The 21-year-old singer-songwriter, has enjoyed widespread success since being spotted as a student in a Brits School showcase.

Zucchero's Zu & Co achieved its first million sales in Europe as a whole, even though it has gone four-times platinum in his native Italy.

The album features duets with Miles Davis, Sheryl Crow, Paul Young, Brian May, Sting and The Cranberries' Delores O'Riordan.

The Rolling Stones album A Bigger Bang also sold its first one million copies in Europe.

The September 2005 release accompanies the world tour of the same name, and is the long awaited follow-up to 1997's studio album Bridges to Babylon.

That is simply fantastic news :D And to think that it was only released in October and still outsold Blun, Coldplay etc

I'd love to know how much it's sold outside Europe. I know it's around 6 million now so it musy be a million. :cheer:

And he hasn't started his tour yet Scotty..so what with Australian Mexican and South Americian sales you could be right. :cheer:
It's definatly his fastest selling album worldwide to date and looks set to be his biggest. I'm confident it will hit 7 million total.

well, I wish they would get the fact right. Intensive Care went to No.1 in 19 countries and then 20 with Intensive Care going into the No.1 spot in Portugal after it entered the charts at No.2.

So Intensive Care went to No.1 in 20 countries. It also featured in the top top 5 and top 10 slots in many other countries too.

This report makes it sound like he had success in only 19 countries. Which is not true. One day they will get it right. He had No.1's in 20 countries. Are you reading this Mr Reporter. LOL

Yes well the press never gets things fully correct do they? But at least it's good news and is about his success music wise and not about who is rumoured to be his new girlfriend <_<
I'm just hoping that diddy Neil Sean from Sky News is reading the article ! He said on his morning Showbiz Report not so long ago that Intensive Care hadn't been all that successful compared to Robbie's earlier albums. :o  :hithead:

You know what? being the character I am, I hate injustice, if the press kept getting things wrong about me I would make it my personal mission to put them right. Well, we know Robbie does on occassions.

I bet Robbie feels like that for most of the time.

perhaps that is his own thoughts with Random Acts of Kindness. " The words that I have repressed are coming out today I guess, It's justice not respect I am after and that just leaves contempt for you all.

great song and a very powerful and heartfelt lyric line. I wonder if he had the press in mind when he wrote those lyrics. It certainly applies to them.

What an amazing achievement for an amazing artist and an amazing album. CONGRATULATIONS. And this is even before the tour

First I've got to say great quote Jackie, I'm so glad u said that because for the first time ever while I was listening to IC yesterday, Random Acts really stood out to me...what a great song and I think the lyrics could apply to many people who are or have been involved in Robbies life one way or another. Its always been one of my least faves on the album but I'm not so sure now!!

And what fantastic news :cheer: It is such an amazing achievement. And as u say Susie and Scott, I'm sure too that with the tour starting we're gonna see an increase in those figures.

 Well i pm'ed the person running the poll for Celine and asked them to vote for a Robbie forum. They did but in return wanted me to vote for Celine  So that's why. Believe me, i can't stand the women :puke2:

Oh and if you have such great taste why don't you like One of gods better people :P Now that's what i call a brilliant song :D

Don't believe you for a minute. Bet you have all her albums. :P

And anyway, I don't dislike One of God's Better People. I just don't like it as much as the other songs on LTAL. And in no way does that equate to your love for Celine. ;)

You have been 'outed' as a secret fan. Deal with it.
